About

TRX Roofing & Construction is an Amarillo based roofing contractor working out of 5417 Camp Lane in south Amarillo. The Better Business Bureau file lists the business as starting on 1 January 2020 and names Taylor Waddell as the principal, and the company carries a BBB rating of A+ without being BBB accredited. The company's own site describes a family run operation that works with homeowners, realtors, home inspectors, mortgage lenders and insurance providers across the Texas Panhandle, and it publishes service coverage for Amarillo, Canyon, Lubbock and Dalhart. The work mix is roof installation, roof repair, replacement and new construction roofing, plus roof inspections and help with roof insurance claims. The repair page describes work on metal roofs, composite shingle roofs and granular coated tile, and lists the usual Panhandle failure points of missing shingles, damaged flashing, rusted fasteners, moisture intrusion, active leaks and poor ventilation. Roof financing is promoted on the site as well. Amarillo sits in the Texas Panhandle, where the roofing problem is severe hail, sustained high wind and a very wide daily and seasonal temperature swing rather than coastal storm surge. Hail bruising and wind lifted shingles drive most claims here, and the freeze and thaw cycling that comes with Panhandle winters is hard on fasteners, flashing and sealants. TRX appears in GAF's own residential contractor directory for Amarillo, and the company states that its installers are GAF certified and its inspectors Haag certified. It is listed as a member of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Panhandle Builders Association.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0538 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Great experience with TRX Roofing. They were very responsive, communicated extremely well, answering all my questions and keeping me updated throughout the process. They invited my wife and I to their showroom so we could see the shingle and skylight options up close. Their shop is spotless. A TRX representative showed up when the insurance adjustor inspected the for hail damage, and they communicated with him along the way. When it was time to get the roof installed, they accommodated to our schedule. The crew showed up on time, and behaved very professionally. They took great care to protect our property AND our neighbors' property. They were careful when removing the old roof, and someone was constantly cleaning up the unavoidable mess while the crew installed the new roof. When the work was done, they cleaned up, but then made another trip the next day to clean up even more. I don't know how many times they went over the yard with magnets to pick up nails, but I can say that we didn't find any missed nails when they were finished. Everyone we dealt with was patient, seemed to genuinely care, and were very pleasant to work with. We recommend them highly.

I wholeheartedly recommend TRX Roofing. They recently replaced our roof and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. From the very beginning, Josh, our project manager handled every detail with professionalism and foresight. He carefully anticipated the full scope of the project and took the time to thoroughly answer all of our questions, which gave us complete confidence in moving forward. On the day of the installation, the crew arrived early. I loved the large, well-trained team that worked efficiently and safely. They completed the full removal and replacement of our roof in under six hours—an impressive feat. What stood out most was their continuous commitment to cleanliness; they worked steadily to keep the job site free of debris and left our property spotless. The gutter installation went just a smoothly. The new gutters look great and were also completed quickly. We are extremely pleased with both the quality of the work and the outstanding service we received. TRX Roofing has set a new standard for us in terms of professionalism, efficiency, and customer care.

Taylor with TRX made our new roof experience so seamless! He coordinated with the solar company and the insurance to make sure everything was taken care of! If I could give 6 stars I would. Great job, great company! Cannot recommend enough!

I can’t say enough great things about TRX and the crew led by Taylor Waddell. From start to finish, our gutter installation was handled with professionalism and efficiency. They worked quickly, but never at the expense of quality—the craftsmanship truly shows in the final result. Our gutters blend in flawlessly with our house and the whole process was smooth and stress-free. They were true to their word with every handshake. If you’re looking for reliable, high-quality work, I highly recommend TRX.

Built a house in Dimmitt and TRX did my roof. I might be biased because Taylor is a buddy of mine. He personally has been out there several times up on my roof double triple checking that everything is perfect. We are building in the boonies so that right there will tell you these guys have great quality. The mason guys messed the roof up when they did the chimney and Taylor sent me a video walking through everything that was messed up. The customer is their number one priority. There are two important things when having a home. A good foundation and a good roof. These guys do great work. Keep it up buddy.

Frequently asked

Does Texas issue a state roofing licence?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence and no statewide roofing contractor board. What you can actually check is insurance, RCAT status, city or county registration where it applies, and the company's record with the BBB and manufacturers. Treat anyone claiming to be state licensed as a red flag.
What does the RCAT record for TRX Roofing & Construction mean?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas keeps two separate things. Plain membership means the company pays dues and belongs to the trade body. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, shown as CRRL, RRL or CRL, is earned separately through testing and experience. They are not the same thing and a directory badge on a website does not tell you which one a company holds, so check the RCAT directory yourself.
Why is hail such a big deal for Amarillo roofs?
The Panhandle sits in an active severe storm corridor and takes repeated hail through spring and early summer. Hail rarely punches a hole in an asphalt shingle. It bruises the mat and knocks the granules off, which shortens the shingle's life quietly over the following years. That is why a roof can pass a glance from the ground and still have a valid hail claim.
Are impact resistant Class 4 shingles worth it in Amarillo?
For most Panhandle homeowners they are worth pricing. Class 4 is the top rating in the UL 2218 steel ball impact test, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a qualifying roof. Ask your carrier what the discount is before you buy, because it varies a lot and it is what decides whether the upgrade pays back.
How does high wind damage a Panhandle roof?
Sustained wind lifts shingle tabs and breaks the thermal seal strip, which is often invisible from the ground. Once the seal is gone, the next storm peels the tab off. Ridge caps, rake edges and flashing at walls and chimneys usually fail first. Ask for photos of the ridge and the edges specifically after a wind event.
What do the temperature swings out here do to a roof?
Amarillo can move thirty or forty degrees in a day and cycles above and below freezing repeatedly in winter. That expansion and contraction works fasteners loose, cracks pipe boot rubber, splits old sealant at flashing and opens gaps at penetrations. Pipe boots and sealant are consumable parts on a Panhandle roof and should be checked at every inspection.
Do I need a permit for a reroof in Amarillo?
Texas has no statewide building code for this, so permitting and inspection are handled city by city and county by county. Amarillo and Randall County set their own requirements. Ask the contractor in writing who pulls the permit, who schedules the inspection and whether the permit fee is inside the quoted price.
How should I handle a hail insurance claim?
Document the storm date, photograph the damage and any impacted soft metals such as gutters, vents and the AC fins, then file with your carrier. A contractor can inspect and provide documentation, but the contractor is not your adjuster and should not be negotiating the claim on your behalf. Never sign anything that assigns your claim proceeds or commits you to work before the claim is settled.
What should I ask before signing with any Panhandle roofer?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurer showing general liability and workers compensation, the physical local address, who supervises the crew on site, the manufacturer warranty and the separate workmanship warranty in writing, and whether the crew is in house or subcontracted. Get the full scope on paper before any money changes hands.
Should I be careful with out of town storm chasers after a hail event?
Yes. Big Panhandle hail events pull in crews from other states who leave once the work dries up, and a workmanship warranty is worthless if the company is gone. Confirm a real local address and phone, look for a BBB file and local trade memberships with some history behind them, and be wary of anyone knocking on your door demanding a signature that day.
