About

Mayfield Roofing, Inc. is a family owned roofing contractor at 4803 Catalpa Ln in Amarillo, Randall County. The company's About page says it was founded in 1961 by Ronnie and Albert Mayfield, that Ronnie acquired his brother's stake in 1970 and that the business incorporated in 1974. BBB records agree, showing a start date of June 1, 1961 and incorporation on July 22, 1974, and list Angie Hooley as president and Van Hooley as general manager. The company has been BBB Accredited since 1969, one of the longest accreditation records of any roofer in the Texas Panhandle. Mayfield works both residential and commercial. Residential work covers roof repair, replacement, inspections and new installation, plus gutters, gutter guards, siding, windows, skylights and skylight screens. Commercial work covers inspections, new installation, repair, maintenance and replacement across TPO thermoplastic membrane, standing seam metal, built up gravel ballast, modified bitumen torch down, tile, stone coated metal and composition shingle systems. The Amarillo facility houses a metal shop with a roll forming machine, so metal roofing panels are fabricated in house. The Panhandle is squarely in Texas hail country, and Mayfield's residential page states that Class IV impact resistant shingles are available for insurance discounts. Texas issues no state roofing licence, so a homeowner's practical checks are current insurance certificates, the manufacturer credentials behind any warranty being promised, and city permitting in Amarillo.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0270 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Needed new roof on house and barn with new gutters. It happens a lot in hail country. Mayfield roofing was absolutely amazing. From timely estimates, working with insurance, to the highly skilled team. A steel roof has many cuts and turns. The team of 3 or 4 men knew their business, worked hard and diligently. It is beautiful and I have a 50 year high confidence in their work. The guttering team are equally precise. Everything was completed in 4 days. 😊 thanks And insurance paid for most of it.😃

I had them coming patch a spot on the roof it leaked within the first week they came back they said that they fixed that and it continued to leak when I reached out to them they said repairs are not guaranteed but they would take what I already paid off replacing the whole roof when I asked for a quotes with that I just got blank estimates and when I reached out to tell somebody that my roof was still leaking they informed me that they are not guaranteed but did not inform me that before I paid them even though the price was reasonable I lost $575 for nothing it didn't even stop leaking one day and to get in contact with somebody is like impossible the owners on vacation and the lady who answers the phone will just say sorry not guaranteed okay but in the contract it says for 2 years I wouldn't recommend them for a repair

mayfield Roofing reroofed my business and my house when we had the horrible hail storm several years ago. Van, was very gracious to work with. Their men were very respectful and hard workers. They have been more then helpful even several years later. I would recommend their company if you need roofing done

We used Mayfield to install sun tubes in our home. They did a great job. The sun tubes deliver great sunlight to what was once a pretty dark room.

Frequently asked

How long has Mayfield Roofing been in business?
The company's About page states it was founded in 1961 by Ronnie and Albert Mayfield and incorporated in 1974. BBB records match, showing a business start date of June 1, 1961 and incorporation on July 22, 1974. One tagline on the site reads Since 1969, which corresponds to the year BBB accreditation began rather than the founding year.
Is Mayfield Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing contractor licence, so no Texas roofer holds one. The company describes itself as licensed, bonded and insured, which in practice refers to city registration, bonding and insurance rather than a state trade licence. Ask for the general liability and workers compensation certificates to be sent directly by the insurance agency before work starts.
What does the RCAT Member status mean on this listing?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Member means the company joins and pays dues. RCAT also awards a separate Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that has to be earned through its own process. The two are not equivalent, and Mayfield Roofing is shown here with Member status.
Which manufacturer certifications can actually be verified?
Polyglass lists Mayfield Roofing, Inc. at 4803 Catalpa Lane, Amarillo in its own contractor directory as a Preferred Contractor, so that one is confirmed at the manufacturer's site. The company also states CertainTeed, Duro-Last, DECRA, Versico and Carlisle credentials on its own pages, and those were not located in the respective manufacturer directories during this research. Ask the company to show the current certificate for whichever brand your warranty depends on.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in the Texas Panhandle?
The Panhandle takes regular severe hail, and Mayfield's residential page notes Class IV impact resistant shingles are available for insurance discounts. Class 4 is the top rating under the UL 2218 steel ball impact test. Call your own homeowner insurer first, get the discount percentage in writing, and weigh it against the upgrade cost on the quote.
Does a WPI-8 windstorm certificate apply to an Amarillo roof?
No. WPI-8 certificates apply only in the 14 first tier Gulf Coast counties served by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. Amarillo sits in the Panhandle, roughly 600 miles from the coast, so WPI-8 is not part of the process. Hail resistance, wind uplift ratings and city permitting are the relevant concerns here.
What is the advantage of a roofer that rolls its own metal panels?
Mayfield's Amarillo facility has a metal shop and a roll forming machine, which means standing seam panels can be formed to the exact length of the run. That reduces or eliminates horizontal seams on long slopes, shortens the wait for special order lengths and lets flashing and trim be matched on site rather than ordered in.
Who handles roofing permits in Amarillo?
Texas has no statewide building code administration, so permits and inspections are handled by the local jurisdiction. In Amarillo that is the city's building safety department. Confirm in writing whether the contractor or the homeowner is responsible for pulling the permit, and make sure the final inspection is scheduled and passed before the last payment is released.
What roof systems suit a commercial building in the Panhandle?
Mayfield installs TPO thermoplastic membrane, standing seam metal, built up gravel ballast and modified bitumen torch down on commercial work. The right choice depends on slope, deck type, existing insulation and how much foot traffic the roof takes. Ask for the manufacturer's system warranty terms in writing, since those are usually tied to the installer's certification with that brand.
What should a homeowner ask before signing a Texas roofing contract?
Get the shingle line and impact rating, the underlayment and ventilation spec, the price per sheet for replacing rotten decking, who pulls the permit, the payment schedule and the length of both the manufacturer material warranty and the contractor workmanship warranty. Also confirm that nobody offers to absorb your insurance deductible, which Texas Insurance Code Chapter 707 prohibits.
