Insurance & credential verification
Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

City/county registration
Required in Amarillo Permit office ↗Roofing Contractor Registration. Registration is required here to pull a roofing permit; we have not confirmed this company's own status, so check it before you sign.
Status Current in the RCAT directory (no published licence number for this record)
RCAT member ID1864 (member since 2026)
Licence boardRCAT, Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (Texas issues no state roofing licence; RCAT runs the licensing programme)
Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Frequently asked
Does Texas issue a state roofing licence?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence and no state roofing regulator. What you can actually verify is insurance coverage, voluntary credentials such as RCAT membership or a manufacturer certification, and whatever registration the City of Amarillo requires. Be sceptical of any Texas roofer describing itself as state licensed.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas offers plain membership, obtained by paying dues, and a separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential shown as CRRL, RRL or CRL, which requires testing and continuing education. The two are not equivalent, and a company should be able to tell you which it holds.
What does a GAF Certified Plus credential mean?
It is a manufacturer credential rather than a licence. GAF screens contractors for insurance and reputation and lists them by tier in its public directory. Certified Plus contractors can offer GAF's enhanced system warranties, including the System Plus and Silver Pledge limited warranties, on qualifying roof systems. You can confirm any company's tier on GAF's own site.
How bad is hail in the Texas Panhandle?
Bad enough that hail is the leading cause of roof replacement in the region. Amarillo sits in an active severe storm corridor and large hail events can strip granules, bruise shingles and dent metal and gutters across whole neighbourhoods in a single afternoon.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in Amarillo?
For most Panhandle homeowners the case is strong. Class 4 shingles are tested to resist impact better than standard shingles, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Ask your carrier for the exact discount, then compare it against the material upcharge over the life of the roof.
What does hail damage actually look like on a roof?
On asphalt shingles, look for round bruises where granules have been knocked away and the mat feels soft underneath. On metal and gutters, look for dents. Soft metal such as vents, flashing and downspouts often shows the clearest evidence. Damage is frequently invisible from the ground, which is why a proper inspection matters.
How does a hail insurance claim usually work?
A contractor inspects and documents the damage, you file with your carrier, an adjuster inspects, and both sides agree a scope and price. A reputable roofer will meet the adjuster on the roof. Beware of anyone promising a free roof or offering to cover your deductible.
Can a roofer cover my insurance deductible?
No. Under Texas law a contractor cannot pay, waive, rebate or absorb your insurance deductible, and cannot advertise doing so. It is one of the clearest warning signs after a storm.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Amarillo?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection are set locally. The City of Amarillo has its own reroof permitting requirements, and rules differ again in unincorporated Potter and Randall County. Confirm who is pulling the permit before work starts.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract?
Ask for the certificate of insurance including workers compensation, the full written scope covering decking, underlayment, flashing and ventilation, the manufacturer warranty and the separate workmanship warranty, the payment schedule, who supervises the crew, and how change orders are handled if rotten decking is uncovered.
