About

Lone Star Roofing and Repair is an Amarillo roofing contractor working out of 809 South Georgia Street and serving the Texas Panhandle. Its BBB profile shows the business started on November 12, 2019 and was incorporated on November 18, 2019, and it has been a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating since March 11, 2020. The company is listed in the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas directory and in the Texas Panhandle Roofing Contractors Association directory, and it is an associate member of the Texas Panhandle Builders Association under Gutters and Roofing as well as the statewide Texas Association of Builders. The company quotes both residential and commercial projects. Its services page covers full roof replacement, roof repair and maintenance including leak repair, vent repair and replacement, nail pop repair and patch work, 24 hour emergency roof repair, and free inspections after storm damage. It also handles insurance claims for storm, flood and fire damage, and says it will coordinate related exterior repairs such as gutters, siding, fencing and windows so a single claim can be managed end to end. Directory listings describe the company as working on all roof types from cedar shake to asphalt shingle and metal, and its Texas Panhandle Builders Association entry names metal roofing as an area of expertise. Hail is the story in this part of Texas. The company's own homepage puts it plainly, saying that whether it is hailstorms or wind damage, the weather in the area is rough on roofs. Potter County records one of the highest counts of severe hail days of any county in Texas, which is why impact resistant Class 4 shingles, prompt post storm inspections and a well documented claim file matter more in Amarillo than in most of the state. The company describes itself as Amarillo owned, with a team of estimators, sales staff and installers, and says it answers its own phones.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Lone Star Roofing and Mike Hoffman get my highest recommendation. From start to finish, our experience was exceptional. Mike went the extra mile to work with our insurance company, ensuring that we received the proper amount for our claim. His communication throughout the process was outstanding, keeping us updated at every step. When it came time to install the roof, Mike's crew demonstrated incredible skill and efficiency. They completed the job promptly and left the area spotless. We are absolutely thrilled with the quality of our new roof. As an added bonus, Mike recommended a solar attic fan, which has made a remarkable difference in the comfort of our upstairs and even helped to slightly reduce our electric bill slightly. It's rare to find a company that delivers such a high level of service and expertise. We feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with Mike and Lone Star Roofing. If you're in need of roofing services, Lone Star Roofing is the best choice you can make.

Fab-U-Lous! We live in Canyon and after the tennis ball size hail storm damaged our roof and home, a friend recommended Lone Star Roofing. What a wonderful recommendation it was. The owner and crew were very responsive, great customer services and the crew was clean. The crew picked up all the trash from the roofing project. We have owned many homes in the past and put on new roofs but the crew never picked up after themselves. Lone Star Roofing is in a caliber all of their own. Thank you.

Frequently asked

Does Texas license roofing contractors?
No. There is no state roofing license in Texas and no state agency that issues or pulls one. That means the checks fall to you as the homeowner. Confirm general liability and workers compensation coverage, verify the business entity, look at association standing such as RCAT or the Texas Panhandle Roofing Contractors Association, and call local references.
This company is shown as an RCAT Member. Is that the same as being licensed?
No. RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Member means the company pays dues and is listed in the RCAT contractor directory. RCAT separately awards an earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that requires testing and continuing education. Directory membership alone does not mean a company holds that credential, and neither one is a government license.
How bad is hail in Amarillo compared with the rest of Texas?
Very bad. Potter County, which contains most of Amarillo, records one of the highest counts of severe hail days of any county in Texas. Amarillo roofs take repeated hail impacts over their service life rather than one rare event, so roof age, product choice and claim documentation all matter more here than in milder parts of the state.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth the extra cost in the Panhandle?
In a hail zone this severe they usually are. Class 4 is the top UL 2218 impact rating, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for installing them. The tradeoff is a higher upfront material cost. Ask this company which Class 4 product lines it stocks and get the exact product named in your written contract, not just the word upgraded.
What roof types does this company work on?
Directory listings describe the company as working on all roof types from cedar shake to asphalt shingle and metal, and its Texas Panhandle Builders Association entry lists metal roofing as an area of expertise. The company's own website does not break out product brands, so confirm the specific material and manufacturer before you sign.
What should I do the day after a hailstorm hits my Amarillo home?
Take dated photos from the ground, note the storm date, and check for obvious signs such as dented vents, gutters or downspouts, granules washed into the gutters, and any interior water staining. This company offers free storm damage inspections and 24 hour emergency repair, which is worth using to get a tarp or temporary patch in place before more weather arrives.
Will the company deal with my insurance company for me?
Its services page says it handles insurance claims for storm, flood and fire damage, and that it can coordinate related exterior repairs such as gutters, siding, fencing and windows on the same claim. Note that in Texas only the policyholder can file the claim. A contractor filing a claim on your behalf without you is insurance fraud, so expect to make the call yourself and have the roofer attend the adjuster inspection.
Can the roofer cover my deductible?
No. Texas House Bill 2102, effective November 1, 2019, makes it illegal for a contractor to pay, waive, rebate or absorb your insurance deductible. If a company offers to eat your deductible, it is breaking Texas law and the money has to be recovered somewhere in the job, usually in the materials or the labor.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Amarillo?
Texas does not enforce a single statewide residential building code for reroofs. Permitting and inspection are set locally, so what Amarillo requires is not necessarily what Canyon, Borger or an unincorporated part of Potter or Randall County requires. Ask in writing who pulls the permit and confirm the requirement with the City of Amarillo building department for your address.
What should I confirm before signing a roofing contract in the Panhandle?
Get a certificate of insurance emailed directly from the contractor's agent covering general liability and workers compensation, a written scope naming the exact shingle or metal panel, underlayment, ventilation and flashing, the workmanship warranty term in writing, the separate manufacturer material warranty, confirmation that your deductible is your own responsibility, and lien waivers at completion. Be cautious with out of area storm chasing crews that appear after a hail event and have no permanent Amarillo address.
