Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We had a tree fall through our house which caused significant damage not only to our roof but 75% of the interior of our house. Kurt and his team at Coleman Roofing helped us every step of the way from navigating the insurance process to installing high quality products and finishes for our home. His team does very quality work, kept the workspace clean and were very easy to work with! Kurt's open and clear communication with us throughout the process took our experience to another level! He cares about us as his clients and he worked to make sure we were pleased with every part of the remodel. I cannot recommend this company enough for your roofing AND remodeling needs!

We had a tree fall on our house at the beginning of October 2023. Kurt was one of our first calls we made and he immediately began to advise us on how to move forward. Kurt guided us through the insurance process and his team did an amazing job on putting our roof and living room back together. It looks even better than it did before! I would recommend Coleman Roofing not only for their exception work on our roof but also the remodel inside to our living room.

I could not be happier with the work Coleman Roofing did! Kurt was very helpful throughout the process and answered any questions I had. I love how the new roof and gutters turned out! I would definitely recommend them for your project.

Kurt and his crew did a great job taking care of my roof. After high wind storm damage he covered my roof to keep any more rain from getting into my home. He then got appropriate photos to help claims adjuster do his job. He got me with a team to dry the inside of my home out STAT before we could have a mold issue which was recommended by the insurance adjuster. I had asked him for extras beside just the roofing job which he helped in securing the sub-contractors or having his team complete. This work was completed in a very timely manner... Thanks Kirk. Recently due to hail damage we needed a roof replacement. During my search of local roofing contractors for inspections, estimates and reading reviews from customers, one stood out to me, Coleman Roofing. Not only were all the reviews very favorable but Mr. Coleman responded to each one with sincere appreciation for his customers which I felt showed great character and integrity. Kurt gave me guidance thru the insurance claim process and Allen who is very knowledgeable and such a pleasure to work with saw the project thru to completion. The quality of workmanship, protection of property and final cleanup was exceptional. I am extremely pleased and would definitely recommend Coleman Roofing. Thank you guys so much, the roof looks great!

Frequently asked

Does Texas issue a state roofing license?
No. Texas has no statewide roofing license, so no roofer in Tyler or anywhere else in the state can be state licensed for roofing. What you can check is insurance, RCAT standing, city or county registration where it applies, and the company's own track record.
What does RCAT Member status mean for Coleman Roofing?
Coleman Roofing is listed with the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas as a Member. Membership means the company pays dues and participates in the association. It is not the same as RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, which is a distinct designation with its own testing and experience requirements.
What insurance should I confirm before hiring a roofer in Tyler?
Ask for a current certificate of general liability insurance and, if the company uses employees, workers compensation coverage. Texas does not require roofers to carry workers compensation, so ask specifically and have the certificate sent from the insurance agency rather than handed to you by the salesperson.
Is hail a real problem for roofs in Smith County?
Yes. East Texas sits in the broader Texas hail belt and Smith County sees damaging hail and high wind events most spring seasons. Hail bruising often does not leak immediately, which is why a post storm inspection is worth doing even when the ceiling looks fine.
What are impact resistant Class 4 shingles and are they worth it?
Class 4 is the top rating in the UL 2218 steel ball impact test. These shingles resist hail bruising better than standard shingles and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them. Ask your carrier what discount applies before you pay the upgrade, since the discount varies a lot between insurers.
Does Coleman Roofing offer free inspections and estimates?
Yes. Its website states that a trained team member performs a completely free roof inspection and then provides an estimate with no obligation to move forward until you are ready.
What warranty does Coleman Roofing provide?
According to its own website, new materials are covered by the manufacturer's warranty and Coleman Roofing backs all of its work with a 10 year labor warranty. Get both the material warranty registration and the labor warranty terms in writing at completion.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement in Tyler?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is set city by city and county by county. Roof replacement permits are commonly required inside city limits. Ask the contractor in writing who pulls the permit and confirm the requirement with the City of Tyler or the relevant jurisdiction if the property is outside city limits.
Should I let a roofer handle my hail insurance claim?
A roofer can document damage, meet the adjuster on site and provide a scope of work, and Coleman Roofing lists insurance claim work among its services. Under Texas law a roofing contractor cannot act as your public insurance adjuster or negotiate the claim on your behalf. Be cautious about any offer to waive or absorb your deductible.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in East Texas?
Ask for the full company name and physical address, the certificate of insurance direct from the agent, the specific shingle product and color, whether decking replacement is priced per sheet, who pulls the permit, the labor warranty length, the payment schedule, and whether the crew is employed or subcontracted. Get all of it on one written contract rather than a verbal promise.
