Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0692 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I would highly recommend Advantage Roofing, from the initial consultation to roof installation they handled us with patience and care. Ryan was very easy to work with and addressed all our concerns about the process. We couldn’t be happier with Ryan, Kristina and the installation crew they are truly professionals.

I had a limb fall on our roof that made a baseball size hole after a hailstorm. Jason was extremely quick to come check out the damage and get a temporary fix in place before the next wave of rain. He kept in constant communication to give pricing and updates on timing. They were there to fix the hole as soon as weather allowed and did a great job. They matched the shingles so well that you cannot see where the patch was done. I couldn't be happier with the quality of work and would highly recommend Jason and the Advantage Roofing team!

I sent Advantage roofing a text for a small roof repair and they responded within the hour. They came by and looked at my roof that day, responded with a quote by the end of the day and had a crew there the next morning and did a great job and cleaned up the area. It’s not often you find a contractor these days that responds and performs like they did. I will use them again and refer them to all my friends. Thanks again for a job well done. 👍🏻

My roof was 20+ years old and needed a replacement badly. Contacted Advantage for an estimate and they were quick, professional and thorough. They even used a drone to scan and take pics of the roof. They offer really good material options and colors. Estimate price was under my budget and they quickly got my roof less than a week later and finished in one day. I got the materials I wanted and a new ridge vent installed. Excellent clean up and they delivered quality work. Would absolutely recommend to anyone needing a new roof.

Frequently asked

Does Texas require roofers to hold a state license?
No. Texas has no statewide roofing license. Homeowners should instead confirm a contractor's general liability and workers' compensation insurance, and check credentials like RCAT status.
What does it mean that Advantage Roofing is an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) offers plain dues-paying Membership as well as a separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL). Advantage Roofing's principal, Jay Welling, holds the CRRL credential, which requires additional testing beyond basic membership.
Are impact-resistant (Class 4) shingles worth it in the Tyler area?
East Texas sits on the edge of the state's hail-prone corridor, so Class 4 shingles can reduce storm damage and, on many policies, qualify homeowners for an insurance premium discount. Ask any roofer, including Advantage Roofing, whether Class 4 options are available for your roof.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Tyler?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting is set locally. Check with the City of Tyler or Smith County building department, or ask your roofing contractor to confirm permit requirements before work begins.
What should I ask a roofer before signing a contract?
Ask for proof of current general liability and workers' compensation insurance, a written scope of work, manufacturer certification level (such as GAF Elite or Owens Corning Platinum Preferred), warranty terms, and references from recent local jobs.
How do hail damage insurance claims typically work in Texas?
After a storm, document the damage, contact your insurer to schedule an adjuster inspection, and get an independent roofing estimate. A reputable contractor can help identify damage and explain the claims process without pressuring you to sign over your claim.
What does GAF Elite Certified mean?
GAF Elite Certification is a manufacturer-awarded status for contractors who meet GAF's training, licensing, insurance, and reputation standards. It can qualify homeowners for extended GAF warranty coverage not available through uncertified installers.
What is Owens Corning Platinum Preferred status?
It is Owens Corning's top contractor tier, awarded to companies that meet ongoing sales, training, and customer satisfaction requirements. Advantage Roofing states it is the only contractor with this status in East Texas.
Does Advantage Roofing work on commercial flat roofs?
Yes. The company holds certification to install Versico TPO roofing systems, which are commonly used on commercial and low-slope buildings.
How can I verify a roofing company's insurance before hiring?
Ask the contractor for a certificate of insurance naming you as certificate holder, and call the insurer directly to confirm the policy is active. This directory notes RCAT and BBB status but does not itself verify insurance.
