About

Dickson Roofing is a family owned East Texas roofing contractor working out of 20042 US Highway 69 S, Building B, in Tyler. The company handles residential and commercial roofing, roof replacement and repair, metal roof installation, flat roof systems and roof inspections, and it fabricates its own sheet metal, including soldered flashings and chimney caps, in house. The business is recorded in RCAT's directory under the Licensed Roofing Contractor credential rather than plain membership. It is also a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating, accredited since September 2020. Owner Shon Dickson came to roofing from more than a decade split between roofing and insurance work, and the company markets itself on that dual background when helping homeowners work a hail or wind claim. Tyler sits in an active East Texas hail and storm corridor, so most of the company's advertised work is storm driven: replacements, leak repairs, emergency tarping and insurance claim support. Texas has no state roofing licence, so homeowners should still ask for current liability and workers compensation certificates and confirm City of Tyler or Smith County permit requirements before work begins.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0693 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We had extensive storm damage this summer and it was Dickson Roofing to the rescue. They were so amazing to work with and replaced the roof on our little cabin with the highest level of craftsmanship. We are so pleased. BIG shout out to Cheri Dickson for helping us navigate the process. We are extremely pleased with the end result!

We recently had a chimney reflashed and new flue cap installed due to a badly leaking chimney with water puddling around the base of the fireplace of a recently purchased home. The folks at Dickson knew just how to fix it and did a fantastic job, the new hardware looks great and we couldn't be more satisfied! The guys who came out and did the job performed quality work and were friendly, courtious and helpful throughout the process. Even with all the rain we have had the last few weeks not one drop of water gets through that chimney now. Repairs large and small all the way up to full roof replacements - Highly recommended.

Great roofing company to work with. I replaced my shingle roof with a standing seam roof. Shon Dickson reviewed my options and executed an excellent job. We had no problems and the roof looks terrific. The job was well managed in some challenging weather conditions. Dickson did a terrific job and I would highly recommend them.

This summer, Dickson Roofing did a phenomenal job installing a new roof on my lake house. The materials were top quality and the workmanship was incredible. Thank you Shon, Jamie and Matt for supervising the job and making sure it was done right before letting the crew leave the job site. I HIGHLY recommend these guys!

Frequently asked

What county is Dickson Roofing actually in?
Smith County. The company's office at 20042 US Highway 69 S, Building B, Tyler, TX 75703 falls inside Smith County, which is confirmed by the BBB profile address, the RCAT directory record and the company's own contact page map pin.
Is Dickson Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not license roofing contractors at state level, so no roofer in Texas is state licensed. The credential that does exist is the voluntary RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor designation, and Dickson Roofing appears in RCAT's directory under that credential. Ask separately for proof of insurance.
What is the difference between RCAT Member and RCAT Licensed?
RCAT Member means the company pays association dues. RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor is a separate credential earned through examination and continuing education. Dickson Roofing's RCAT record shows the Licensed credential, which is the stronger of the two.
How long has Dickson Roofing been in business?
Public records put the start in 2020. The BBB profile gives a business start date of 13 March 2020 and the RCAT record gives an establishment date of 1 May 2020. The company's site describes a team with roughly twenty years of combined industry experience, which is a team figure rather than a company age.
Which East Texas cities does the company serve?
Its published service area covers Tyler, Whitehouse, Lindale, Jacksonville, Athens, Kilgore and Longview. If your property sits outside those, ask whether they travel to it before scheduling an inspection.
Are impact resistant Class 4 shingles worth it around Tyler?
East Texas takes regular hail, and Class 4 impact rated shingles pass a UL 2218 steel ball test that standard shingles do not. Most Texas insurers offer a premium credit for a Class 4 roof. Confirm the discount with your carrier first, then ask for the Class 4 rating to be written into the proposal.
Can the company handle a hail or wind insurance claim?
The company advertises insurance claim assistance and its owner has an insurance background. Under Texas law a roofing contractor may not also act as a public insurance adjuster on the same claim, so the contractor should document damage and price the repair while you deal with your carrier on scope and settlement.
Do I need a permit for a reroof in Tyler?
Texas has no statewide residential building code enforcement, so permitting is set city by city and county by county. Check with the City of Tyler or Smith County for your address, and make sure the contract states who pulls and pays for the permit.
Are the CertainTeed and IKO credentials verified?
The company states on its own site that it holds CertainTeed ShingleMaster status and IKO ROOFPRO Advantage status. Those claims were not locatable in CertainTeed's Find A Pro directory or IKO's contractor finder at the time of review, so treat them as company statements and ask to see the current certificates if the manufacturer warranty tier matters to you.
Does a Tyler roof need WPI-8 windstorm certification?
No. WPI-8 certificates and TWIA windstorm inspections apply only to the fourteen first tier Gulf Coast counties. Smith County is inland East Texas, so windstorm certification does not apply. Hail performance, correct decking and proper flashing detail are the things worth spending on here.
