About

Stonewater Roofing is a Tyler-based roofing contractor founded in 2010 by Roland Browne. The company's BBB profile lists an incorporation date of October 7, 2010 and shows it has been BBB Accredited since October 3, 2011 with an A+ rating. Its headquarters is at 924 W Houston St in Tyler (Smith County), and the company describes itself as family owned and operated. Unlike many contractors that list distant cities as "service areas", Stonewater publishes genuine branch offices with their own local street addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. Its contact page lists Texas offices in Tyler, Longview, Nacogdoches, Bedford, Austin, College Station, San Antonio and Waco, plus out-of-state locations in Texarkana, Arkansas and Shreveport, Louisiana. BBB describes the operation as six locations with 55 employees, so the office count on the company site is larger than the figure BBB has on file. Work covers residential, commercial, multi-family and new-construction roofing, along with roof repair, free inspections, storm and hail damage assessment, gutters and solar panel or solar shingle installation. Stonewater is listed on GAF's own contractor directory as a GAF Master Elite roofer. The company also states on its site that it holds the GAF Master Elite President's Club award and that it is a certified installer for CertainTeed and Malarkey products. Those last three are stated by the company and were not confirmed on the manufacturers' own directories. Tyler sits in East Texas rather than on the coast, so hail and wind-driven rain, not windstorm certification, drive most roof claims here.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0384 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

My roof is beautiful. Scott came out and took pictures of roof damage and let me know the cost to replace. Roof was replaced. Samuel and Edfrain came out the next day to answer any questions.

The team at Stonewater worked together to ensure my roof replacement was as hassle free as possible. From the beginning Scott was engaging with my insurance team to make sure we got what we needed. Scott stayed engaged throughout the process to answer any questions and keep me informed of any updates on my project. We will certainly use Stonewater again.

Jeffery Banks was our PM for our new roof. Jeff is very professional and his crew did an amazing job. Jeff explained all my concerns and answered all my questions. They were very nice and respectful and work very hard sun up to sun down. Thank you Stonewater Roofing and thank you Dustin Loftis for getting it going.

I had Stonewater Roofing put a new roof on a house I was selling. I needed quick work so I could close the deal, and they made it happen. I worked with Shay Burton and he was always prompt and did a good job explaining the process. I was very happy with the results and I highly recommend Stonewater.

Deedee Albertin· a year ago

For the beginning of our project, Ryan, our sales rep, educated us about all of the roofing material options, and made excellent suggestions about which shingles to use, and whether we could keep our existing gutters. (We did!). He is polite, professional, highly knowledgeable about Stonewater’s products and the whole process, and helped us feel confident about our roofing project. Patrick, the project manager, was punctual, cordial and professional, and kept us informed as our roofing project progressed. He was also polite, and respectful of our property, and easy to work with. The crew of roofers was amazing! They were incredibly organized, worked very efficiently, even on the hottest day of the year (so far!) and completed our roof in one day. Patrick did a great job of managing the crew, and ensured that everything was tidied once the job was completed. We love our new roof, and will recommend Stonewater roofing, especially Ryan and Patrick, to all of our friends!

Frequently asked

Where is Stonewater Roofing based and what area does it cover?
The company is headquartered at 924 W Houston St in Tyler, Smith County. Its contact page also lists Texas offices in Longview, Nacogdoches, Bedford, Austin, College Station, San Antonio and Waco, plus Texarkana, Arkansas and Shreveport, Louisiana.
How long has Stonewater Roofing been in business?
Since 2010. The company was founded by Roland Browne, and its BBB profile lists an incorporation date of October 7, 2010.
Does Texas issue a state roofing licence?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence, so no roofer in Tyler or anywhere else in Texas can be state-licensed for roofing. Judge a contractor on insurance, RCAT standing, city or county registration where it applies, and manufacturer certifications you can look up yourself.
What does the RCAT Member status on this listing mean?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Member means the company pays dues and belongs to the association. It is not the same as RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL), which requires testing and experience. Do not treat the two as interchangeable.
How do I verify the GAF Master Elite claim myself?
Search the company name on GAF's own contractor locator at gaf.com. Stonewater Roofing Ltd Co appears there with a Master Elite designation. Any certification a roofer claims should be findable on the manufacturer's own directory, not only on the roofer's website.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in East Texas?
Often yes. Smith County sits in a part of Texas that takes regular hail. A Class 4 impact-resistant shingle passes the UL 2218 steel-ball test and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for one. Ask your insurer for the discount amount in writing before you choose the product.
Is windstorm or WPI-8 certification relevant here?
No. WPI-8 windstorm certification through TWIA applies only to the 14 first-tier Gulf Coast counties. Tyler is inland East Texas and is not in that programme, so a WPI-8 certificate is not part of a Tyler roof job.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement in Tyler?
Texas has no statewide building code for this, so permitting and inspection are set city by city and county by county. Confirm with the City of Tyler's building or permitting office what your address requires, and make sure your contract says who pulls and pays for the permit.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of general liability and workers' compensation insurance sent directly by the insurer, a written scope with the exact shingle line and colour, whether the crew is in-house or subcontracted, who pulls the permit, and the workmanship warranty length in writing separate from the manufacturer warranty.
How does a Texas hail insurance claim usually work?
You file with your own carrier, an adjuster inspects, and the carrier issues a scope and payment based on your policy. A roofer may meet the adjuster and point out damage, but the contract for the work is between you and the roofer. Be cautious of anyone offering to absorb or waive your deductible, which is not lawful in Texas.
