About

Starr Roofing & Exteriors works out of 610 E Main St, Suite 401 in Allen, in Collin County, and covers the wider Dallas-Fort Worth area. The company's own website dates the business to 1994 and describes more than two decades of roof replacements across North Texas. The Better Business Bureau lists Ron Starr as owner, records the business as a sole proprietorship, shows a start date of January 1995, and has the firm accredited with an A+ rating since 18 August 2010. The RCAT directory carries the company under Allen with the same phone number, (469) 682-2100. The business is unusual in this directory because roofing is only one half of what it sells. Alongside residential roof replacement, repair and gutters, Starr runs a substantial exterior and outdoor living operation: fence and deck staining, rotted wood replacement, patio covers, arbors and cabanas, outdoor kitchens and fireplaces, stamped concrete and exterior painting. That is also why the trading name and the domain diverge. The RCAT record reads "Starr Roofing", but the company brands itself as Starr Roofing & Exteriors across its own site, its BBB profile, Yelp, Houzz, Angi and Facebook, and its domain is starrexteriors.com. On credentials, the verifiable items are the BBB accreditation and the RCAT listing. The company also states on its own pages that it is a GAF Certified roofing installation company and an NTRCA member, and that it carries a general liability certificate rather than being self-insured. Those are claims stated by the company. A search of GAF's own contractor directory for Allen did not return a listing for this business, so treat the GAF claim as unverified until the company can produce its certificate. Allen sits in the North Texas hail belt, and the company's own material leans on hail and storm damage replacement work.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Starr Exteriors, and I can't say enough great things about the experience. Ron Starr, the owner, was incredibly professional from start to finish. He walked me through every step of the process and made sure all my questions were answered. It’s clear he takes a lot of pride in his work, and it shows. They did a complete roof replacement, stained my fence, and replaced my gutters and everything turned out amazing. The quality of the work was top-notch, and the entire job was completed much quicker than I expected. You can tell they’re experienced and efficient. What really stood out to me, though, was how easy they were to work with. Communication was smooth, scheduling was easy, and Ron and his team were always on time. After the job was done, they made sure everything was thoroughly cleaned up no nails, no debris, just a great-looking finished product. If you're looking for a reliable, professional company that does great work and treats your home with respect, I highly recommend Starr Exteriors. Thanks again to Ron and the crew for making the whole process so smooth and stress free!

I recently had an outstanding experience with Starr Roofing & Exteriors. After speaking with several roofing companies following the March hailstorms, I noticed two of my neighbors had chosen Starr — and now I understand why. When I called Ron, he responded right away, came out promptly, and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend!

When we had to replace our roof due to hail damage we decided to have it extended to cover our back patio. We were looking for a simple structure that would allow us a space to sit outside and enjoy the outdoors while being shaded from the sun and sheltered from the rain. What we got was so much more!!! The overall design and attention to detail is truly a work of art!!! Thank you Ron & team for going above and beyond what we envisioned and building a beautiful outdoor space we can enjoy for years to come. In addition to the amazing new patio structure, we also upgraded our roof shingle with a high definition hail impact resistant shingle. The roofing team did a quality job ensuring all old material was properly removed (unlike our previous roofer who left layers of underlayment) and prepped for the new roof. The new roof looks awesome and I was extremely impressed with the roofing crew. Next, the team also repainted our exterior surfaces and stained our newly built fence. We were able to accomplish all of this with Starr Roofing & Exteriors which was nice to have a one stop shop for all of our needs.

Our home was ruined by a water leak and after reaching out to several contractors who failed to communicate and get the ball rolling, we found Starr Exteriors. Ronnie was extremely professional, organized and knew how to get the job done. There wasn’t anything we wanted that he couldn’t do! A complete kitchen and bathroom remodel and all new flooring throughout the house was done in a fraction of time given by others. He worked tirelessly with our insurance company to make sure that we were taken care of and our best interest was put first. Trust me, give him a call. You won’t be sorry! A+++

I was interested in a patio cover for my backyard to avoid the rain and sun. I had a called a couple companies prior to this one and one just sent me an estimate without coming out to my house and another came out but didn't communicate at all what they recommended or asked what I wanted. I called Starr Roofing and spoke with Ron and he came out the next morning with a coworker. We talked for 20-30 minutes about options and what would work for my house/neighborhood. Two days later they came back out went over what they thought would be best for my house while sticking to my budget. I was nervous about the cost because it was a big purchase but I trusted that Ron wouldn't lead me down the wrong path. HIs company started work and his workers were on time every day and worked long hours to get this job done quickly. Ron worked with the city on the permits. Ron was there every morning and evening to keep tabs on everything and provide updates. His employees always had a smile and kept the yard as clean as possible. When the work was done I wasn't even worried about the price anymore. The quality of work, attention to detail and communication was amazing. I would recommend this company to anyone needing work.

Frequently asked

Is Starr Roofing & Exteriors licensed by the State of Texas?
No roofer in Texas is. Texas does not issue a statewide roofing contractor licence, so nobody working in Allen holds one. What you can check instead is insurance, association standing and city registration. This company appears in the RCAT directory and is BBB accredited with an A+ rating. Ask for a current certificate of insurance naming you, and confirm it is live on the day work starts.
Why does the RCAT record say Starr Roofing but the website say Starr Exteriors?
Both refer to the same Allen business at 610 E Main St, Suite 401, reachable on (469) 682-2100. The RCAT directory carries the shorter legal-style name. The public brand used on the company's own website, its BBB profile, Yelp, Houzz, Angi and Facebook is Starr Roofing & Exteriors, and the domain is starrexteriors.com. The wider name reflects that the firm sells fencing, staining and outdoor living work as well as roofing.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
They are not the same thing and the difference matters. RCAT membership means a company has joined the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and pays dues. The RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (RRL, CRL, CRRL) is earned separately through testing and continuing education. Starr Roofing is listed as a member. If a roofer implies membership is a licence, push back.
Is the company BBB accredited?
Yes. The Better Business Bureau profile for Starr Roofing & Exteriors at the Allen address shows accreditation since 18 August 2010 and an A+ rating, with Ron Starr recorded as owner and the business structured as a sole proprietorship. Accreditation is a paid BBB status combined with BBB's own complaint history review, so read the complaint record itself rather than only the letter grade.
Is Starr Roofing GAF certified?
The company states on its own website that it is a GAF Certified roofing installation company. We could not confirm that in GAF's own contractor directory for Allen, so we record it as stated by the company rather than verified. Manufacturer certification is easy for a homeowner to check: ask the roofer for its GAF contractor ID and look the company up on GAF's own contractor locator before you sign.
Does the company handle hail damage insurance claims?
Its own material is built around hail and storm damage roof replacement, which is the normal pattern for a Collin County roofer. Before you let any contractor near your claim, understand that in Texas a roofer cannot act as a public adjuster on your claim, and cannot legally waive or absorb your deductible. Get the scope in writing and keep your own copy of the adjuster's report.
Are impact resistant Class 4 shingles worth it in Allen?
Allen sits in the North Texas hail corridor, which is the single biggest driver of roof replacement in this part of the state. Class 4 impact resistant shingles are rated under UL 2218 and many Texas carriers offer a premium discount for them. Ask your insurer what discount applies before you choose the shingle, and ask the roofer to quote the Class 4 option alongside the standard one.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Allen?
Texas has no statewide residential building code enforcement, so roofing permits and inspections are set city by city. Check the City of Allen building inspections department for current requirements before work starts, and get it in writing which party pulls the permit and who schedules the inspection. A contractor unwilling to put that in the contract is a warning sign.
What does Starr Roofing & Exteriors do besides roofing?
A great deal. Its published services include gutters, rotted wood replacement, fence staining and repair, deck and patio cover staining, patio covers, arbors and cabanas, outdoor kitchens and fireplaces, stamped concrete and exterior painting. For a homeowner rebuilding a whole back garden after a storm, that breadth is the draw. If you only want a roof, ask for roofing references specifically.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in North Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance for both general liability and workers compensation, and ring the insurer to confirm it is active. Ask who pulls the permit. Ask whether the crew is employed or subcontracted. Ask for the manufacturer warranty in writing alongside the separate workmanship warranty, and confirm the shingle line and colour in the contract. Never pay in full up front.
