Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0551 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

JL Contractors did a tremendous job in replacing my home’s roof. I was impressed by their punctuality and work processes. The friendly crew was well organized and was respectful of the property. Placing tarps around the perimeter provided extra comfort from the possibility of stray nails normally found after a roof replacement. The entire process from the in-depth consultation, selecting the items through installation met and exceeded my expectations. Thank you Jaydee Lucason for your care and professionalism!

The best roofing company! Jaydee was incredibly thorough, honest, and easy to communicate with throughout the entire process. She took the time to explain what she found, what actually needed attention, and what could wait, helping me understand both my immediate needs and the longer-term plan for my roof. I never felt pressured or scared into spending money unnecessarily. It felt like she genuinely cared about helping me make the best decision for my home, not just making a sale. Highly recommend!

We recently had JL Contractors replace our roof, install new gutters, and add a new chimney cap, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Kyle and his team were professional from start to finish, keeping us informed throughout the entire process and making sure every detail was handled with care. Their knowledge and expertise were evident from day one, and they were always willing to answer our questions and explain our options. The quality of their work exceeded our expectations, and they completed everything efficiently and professionally. If you’re looking for a reliable contractor who truly cares about their customers and takes pride in their work, I highly recommend Kyle and his team at JL Contractors. We are extremely pleased with our experience and would gladly work with them again!

Kyle came and inspected our roof. He was very punctual, professional and polite! He found some things that other roof inspectors missed. It was the little details of needing spouts and nails sealed and paint on our vent stacks. Things that were not taken care of by the last roofer He took care of these, did a great job on the same day at a great price. He educated us on our roof and gave us much needed info. We have no roof damage, but if we ever do, Kyle will be our go to guy. The job he did actually gave my home a beautiful face lift. Thank you Kyle.

Gunnar did a great job! He was easy to work with and quick to answer questions. He explained what to expect during the insurance claim and roofing process and followed up throughout the project. The crew was fantastic! Cleaned up really well! I love my new roof!

Frequently asked

Is JL Contractors licensed by the State of Texas?
No, and neither is any other roofer. Texas does not issue a state roofing licence. The meaningful checks are current liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT status, manufacturer certification such as Owens Corning Preferred, BBB record and any City of Allen or other local registration.
What is the difference between RCAT Member and RCAT Licensed?
RCAT membership means a company belongs to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is a separate designation earned by an individual through RCAT's own programme. They are not interchangeable and a company can hold one without the other.
What does Owens Corning Preferred Contractor actually mean?
Preferred is a tier in Owens Corning's contractor network. Contractors have to meet Owens Corning's requirements on credentials, insurance and standing to be listed, and the tier unlocks stronger system warranty options than an uncertified installer can offer. You can confirm any contractor's status on Owens Corning's own contractor directory.
Is JL Contractors BBB accredited?
Yes. Its BBB profile shows accreditation since 2 December 2019 and an A plus rating, filed under the Allen, Texas address.
How much of a hail problem is Collin County?
North Texas is the centre of the state's hail alley. Allen, Plano, McKinney and Frisco all take damaging hail in most spring seasons, and hail is the leading cause of roof insurance claims across the metroplex.
Should I upgrade to Class 4 impact resistant shingles in Allen?
It is worth pricing. Class 4 shingles are rated under UL 2218 impact testing and resist moderate hail better than standard shingles. Texas insurers commonly offer a premium credit for a Class 4 roof, so ask your carrier what the discount would be before you decide.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Allen?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is set locally. Most Collin County cities including Allen do require a roofing permit and inspection for a replacement. Confirm the requirement and who is pulling the permit with the City of Allen before the tear off.
Should I sign an assignment of benefits after a hail storm?
Read it very carefully first. An assignment of benefits hands your rights under the insurance claim to the contractor. Many homeowners prefer to keep control of their own claim and simply hire the contractor under a normal written contract with a price.
Does WPI-8 windstorm certification apply in Allen?
No. WPI-8 certification through the Texas Department of Insurance covers the 14 first tier coastal counties served by TWIA. Collin County is inland North Texas, so WPI-8 is not part of a roofing project here.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly by the insurer, the exact shingle line and colour plus underlayment and ventilation in writing, the manufacturer warranty tier being registered, the workmanship warranty length, whether crews are in house or subcontracted, and a clear total price rather than only an insurance scope reference.
