About

Swordsmen Roofing & Construction is a residential and commercial roofing contractor whose Texas office sits at 1380 River Bend Drive, Suite 124, in the Stemmons industrial corridor of Dallas. The company works across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and also runs a Bryan, Texas office plus several locations in Florida. Its BBB profile is accredited with an A+ rating since March 2022 and names Micah Fisher as owner and managing member, Nathaniel S. Watts as licence holder and Janay Hernandez as chief administrative officer. The company's own site organises its work into shingle roofing, metal roofing, specialty roofing and insurance restoration, and it lists asphalt shingles, exposed fastener and standing seam metal, stone coated steel, slate, tile, shake and composite systems. Free on site inspections, annual maintenance checks and roof financing are advertised alongside the core repair and replacement work. Texas has no state roofing licence. What a homeowner can verify here is the BBB accreditation, the company's RCAT record and its certificate of insurance. Manufacturer credentials the company advertises (TAMKO Pro Diamond, Tile Roofing Industry certification, Brava preferred contractor) are reported as stated by the company, because they could not be confirmed at the manufacturers' own contractor directories.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I highly recommend Swordsman Roofing! They were professional, responsive, and kept me informed every step of the way. I really appreciated that they documented each phase of the re-roofing process on video and shared updates throughout. Their pricing was very competitive, and the workmanship was excellent. A special shoutout to Project Manager Mike Hernandez for his impeccable service and follow-up — he made the whole experience smooth and stress-free. Outstanding company from start to finish!

I truly appreciate Swordsmen Roofing and Terry Placker for the excellent experience and quality roof replacement. Terry was on site throughout the process and what I appreciate most is his commitment to communication. Receiving texts and pictures throughout the day tracking the work was a welcome change from our last roofing experience. I highly recommend working with Terry and Swordsmen Roofing.

What a great job Terry Placker and his whole team did! From the moment he started Terry coordinated conversations with everyone involved quickly and effectively. The whole process was a breeze. The team handling the roofing construction arrived promptly at 6am and worked diligently to finish same-day. They were very respectful and cleaned up so well. No trash or debris was left after. The roof is better than it has ever been! I highly recommend Terry and Swordsmen Roofing and Construction. Don’t shop around, make this your first stop for all roofing and construction needs.

I cannot thank Terry and Swordsmen Roofing enough!!! - Terry is an incredible individual that reaches for the best results and demands quality over quantity every time. I was constantly kept in the loop about how the project is going. From start to finish Terry took control of this and made it a turn-key process. Prior to this, we had another contractor that was meant to take care of us - calls were late, meeting/deadlines weren’t met and insurance became a mess. NOT WITH TERRY The ONLY person I would ever trust with my roof again will be Terry Placker. He fights for his clients and is an expert in his industry and won’t back down to any adjuster or insurance companies. It is SUCH a relief to know there are still great people out there that take pride in what they do and don’t care about what it takes to make it happen - that is Terry; No shortcuts or excuses. I will 1000x support Terry and Swordsmen Roofing again and again. To anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy company, look no further Terry & Swordsmen Roofing are the ones for you.

I'm very thankful that I had Terry Placker and the Swordsmen team handle my roof repairs. Terry was fantastic from start to finish, very professional and prepared to guide me through the process. He was always available to answer any questions and has excellent customer service. The crew had my roof done in less than 6 hours! Terry is also tech savvy. He had a full documented work up by the end of our consult with photos and everything! Everything promised was delivered. I would always choose them for my repairs. Don't waste time with other companies.

Frequently asked

Where is Swordsmen Roofing & Construction's Dallas office?
At 1380 River Bend Drive, Suite 124, Dallas, TX 75247, in the Stemmons corridor. The address appears on the company's own contact page with its own Texas phone number and email, and it is the address on the BBB profile and the RCAT record, so it reads as a genuine staffed office rather than a mail drop.
Does the company work outside Dallas?
Yes. Its contact page also lists a Bryan, Texas office and Florida offices in Sanford, Orange City and Fort Myers, and it maintains third party listings under a The Colony, Texas address. This listing covers the Dallas office only. Ask which crew and which office would actually run your job.
Does Texas licence roofing contractors?
No. There is no Texas state roofing licence, so no roofer in Dallas is licensed by the state to roof. Check the certificate of insurance, sent to you directly by the insurer, the company's RCAT record, and whether your city requires contractor registration.
What is this company's RCAT status?
The RCAT data we hold lists Swordsmen Roofing & Construction as a Member. RCAT membership means dues are paid and is not the same as RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential. Ask any contractor which of the two they actually hold.
How long has the company been in business?
Sources disagree. The company's own About page says it was founded in 1997 in Texas. Its BBB profile records the business as started on 19 April 2017 and incorporated in September 2017, and shows nine years in business. We have left the founding year blank rather than pick one. Ask the company to reconcile it if the figure matters to you.
What roof types does it install?
Asphalt shingles, metal in exposed fastener and standing seam profiles, stone coated steel, slate, tile, wood shake and composite. The specialty roofing line is the part that distinguishes it from shingle only replacement firms in the metroplex.
Does it handle insurance claims?
Insurance restoration is one of its listed service lines and it advertises free on site inspections. A contractor may document damage and meet the adjuster, but the claim is between you and your carrier. Never let anyone tell you they can waive or absorb your deductible, which is not lawful in Texas.
Are impact resistant shingles worth it in Dallas County?
Dallas County sits in the heart of the North Texas hail belt. Class 4 impact rated shingles cost more but many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them, and the reduced chance of a full replacement after a moderate hail event has value on its own. Confirm the discount with your carrier before you choose.
Will I need a permit for a roof replacement in Dallas?
Usually. Texas has no single statewide building code applied uniformly, so permits and inspections are handled city by city. The City of Dallas and each surrounding suburb run their own process. Put in writing who pulls the permit and who schedules the inspection.
What should I check before signing?
A certificate of insurance for general liability and workers compensation sent by the insurer directly, a written scope naming the shingle or panel brand, line and colour, the manufacturer warranty and the workmanship warranty stated separately, a firm price rather than "whatever insurance pays", and a payment schedule that does not require full payment before completion.
