About

Bert Roofing is a family owned residential and light commercial roofing contractor that has operated from 10021 Cayuga Drive in East Dallas since 1988. The company says the family's roofing history goes back to the 1960s, when founder John E. Bert worked as an insurance adjuster, and the business is now in its third generation, with John Edward Bert II as president. Bert Roofing states it has completed more than 40,000 projects across the Dallas metroplex. The company handles roof replacement, roof repair and maintenance, hail and wind storm damage, skylights, gutters, siding, attic insulation and patio covers. Product lines shown on its site include asphalt and impact-resistant shingles, DaVinci synthetic slate, stone-coated steel and historic cedar. Bert Roofing appears in GAF's residential contractor directory and in Owens Corning's contractor directory as a Preferred Contractor, describes itself as a CertainTeed Master Shingle Applicator, and is a VELUX Certified Installer. It has been a BBB Accredited Business since 1990 with an A+ rating, and reports 12 Golden Hammer awards from the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association. Dallas County is squarely inside the North Texas hail corridor, so a large share of roof replacement here follows hail and wind claims. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are the common upgrade, and many Texas carriers offer a premium discount for them. Because Texas has no state roofing license, homeowners should still confirm current liability and workers compensation coverage in writing and check who is pulling the City of Dallas permit. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 5pm.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0219 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I can’t recommend Bert roofing enough. They provided a fast turn around on a roofing inspection and we were so impressed with the level of detail, we hired them to replace the roof once we closed. They were very timely, highly communicative, and great customer service. We are so happy with the outcome and the beautiful roof!

Very thorough and very good. I have used Bert Roofing three times now. Each time they did and impeccable job and their pricing is very reasonable. Over the years, I have used other roofing companies, and they either charge a lot more or do a poor quality job and even worse they leave a huge mess everywhere. Bert Roofing is great because not only do they do a good job, and have a reasonable price, they clean up everything when they are done. I hope I don't need a lot of roofing in the future, but I will, of course, contact Bert if I need to.

Bert and his crew did an excellent job repairing my roof leak and chimney leak. The crew was courteous and respectful. It took a couple weeks after the completion of the roof repair before we got a good rain fall to see how the roof held up. I am satisfied with the work and would highly recommend Bert and for roof repairs. You’re in good hands

Bert Roofing did an excellent job on our roof. It had suffered hail and wind damage. Bill Chittum of Bert Roofing did a great job walking us through the insurance claim process as well as guiding us through selecting the type of new roof. He was professional, knowledgeable and accessible. We strongly recommend this company for your new roof needs.

I had a significant roof leak that needed urgent attention. Bert Roofing came out within a few days of scheduling to fix the issue, and the owner gave me a reasonable, honest quote. The team was out to fix the issue within a few days afterwards and came back to inspect the roof again after the next hard rain. Overall quick and efficient communication and solutioning from beginning to end. If I should have any future issues (hopefully not), I will be contracting this company again.

Frequently asked

Does Texas issue a state roofing license?
No. There is no state roofing license in Texas and no state roofing regulator. Trust is built on verified insurance, voluntary industry credentials such as RCAT, manufacturer certifications, and city or county registration where it is required.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
RCAT membership means the company pays dues to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and requirements. They are not the same thing, so ask which one a company holds.
How bad is hail in Dallas County?
Dallas sits inside what the industry calls Hail Alley. Damaging hail is common in spring, and most residential roof replacements in the metroplex begin as a hail or wind insurance claim rather than simple age-related wear.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in Dallas?
Class 4 is the top rating in the UL 2218 impact test. In a high-hail market like Dallas the upgrade often pays back through fewer claims and a possible insurance discount. Ask your carrier which specific products qualify before you pick one.
Will an impact-resistant roof reduce my insurance premium?
Many Texas carriers offer a discount for a Class 4 roof, but the size of the discount and the approved product list are set by each carrier. Get the discount confirmed by your own insurer in writing, not by the contractor.
Who pulls the roofing permit in Dallas?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so requirements are set city by city. The City of Dallas requires a permit for roof replacement. Confirm in writing that the contractor pulls it in their own name and that final inspection is part of the price.
What should I ask before I sign a roofing contract?
Ask for the written scope, the exact shingle line and color, underlayment and ventilation details, decking replacement pricing per sheet, who pulls the permit, the workmanship warranty length, the payment schedule, and the cleanup and magnet-sweep plan.
What warranties should I expect on a new roof?
There are two: the manufacturer's warranty on the shingles and the contractor's own workmanship warranty on the installation. Enhanced manufacturer warranties are only available through certified contractors and usually require a full system of matched components.
Can my roofer negotiate my hail claim for me?
No. In Texas a roofing contractor may not act as a public insurance adjuster on a job they are contracting. They can meet the adjuster and document damage, but if someone offers to handle the claim negotiation for you, walk away.
How long does a residential roof replacement take?
Most single-family asphalt shingle replacements in the Dallas area are a one to two day job once materials are on site, with larger or steeper roofs and specialty materials such as slate, tile or metal taking longer.
