About

Stetson Roofing & Construction is a small, owner led roofing and construction company based at 9325 Sunrise Rd in Ponder, a town of roughly two thousand people in western Denton County. Better Business Bureau records show the business started on January 26, 2022 and name Stetson L Langwell as managing member. The BBB has assigned an A+ rating, although the company is not a BBB Accredited Business. The company's leadership page lists Stetson Langwell as founder and CEO and Ashley Langwell as production manager, with separate residential and commercial sales contacts. The company's own website presents residential roofing (new installation, replacement and emergency repair), commercial roofing (installation, repair and maintenance), gutter replacement and fencing for residential, commercial, agricultural and security uses. It also mentions property inspections and emergency response for storm damage and leaks, and describes itself as veteran owned and operated, fully insured and faith based. The site does not publish a materials list, a manufacturer certification list, business hours or a service area page, so those fields are left blank here rather than filled with guesses. On the trust side, the strongest verifiable credential is with the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. The RCAT directory lists Stetson Langwell with the RRL designation and Residential Roofing License #01-0624, which is the separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential rather than plain paid membership. Texas has no state roofing license, so credentials like this one, current general liability and workers compensation coverage, and any city or county contractor registration are what a Denton County homeowner can actually check before signing.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0624 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We had a great experience with Stetson Roofing. We wanted new chimney caps to replace our plain builder grade ones. The team was professional and did a great job. The caps are beautiful. They were also able to successfully address a chimney leak issue we had been dealing with for several years. We highly recommend this company and it is a bonus to support a veteran owned business.

I would recommend this company to anyone. I was given an estimate for the work i needed within 24 hrs and the work was done 2 days later. He wanted to make sure it was addressed before the storms we expected to get. I was shown pictures of the before and after and even given the option of what color shingles I wanted. This company went beyond my expectations and never failed to answer all my questions in a timely manner. Cleaned up after they were done and made sure they left nothing behind except for a new roof and a very happy customer.

I highly recommend Stetson Roofing & Construction for any needs you have. Communication with Matt was outstanding and he was always able to answer our questions and respond to our concerns. Stetson Roofing gave us a very fair price and delivered 100% on their commitments. They are transparent in their approach so we were never worried and never questioned our decision to put our business with Stetson. Their work quality is excellent and they made sure we were completely satisfied. We’ve used them for multiple projects and will use them again when the need arises.

Frequently asked

Is Stetson Roofing & Construction licensed by the State of Texas?
No, and neither is any other Texas roofer. Texas has no state roofing license. What this company does hold is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas Licensed Roofing Contractor credential: the RCAT directory lists Stetson Langwell with the RRL designation and Residential Roofing License #01-0624.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
An RCAT Member simply pays association dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (RRL for residential, CRL for commercial, CRRL for both) is earned separately through testing and continuing education. They are not the same thing, and a roofer who says only that they are RCAT affiliated may hold just the membership.
What areas does Stetson Roofing & Construction serve?
The company does not publish a service area page. Its registered address is in Ponder in western Denton County, and a Yelp listing for the business is filed under Haslet in northwest Tarrant County, which suggests it works across the northwest side of the Metroplex. Ask directly whether your address is covered before booking.
Does the company work on insurance hail claims?
The website advertises emergency response for storm damage and leaks and offers property inspections, but it does not describe an insurance claim service in detail. Denton County sits in the North Texas hail belt, so ask the company directly how it documents damage and whether it will meet your adjuster on site.
Should I ask about impact resistant shingles in Denton County?
Yes. Denton County is squarely in Texas hail country, and UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistant shingles are the standard upgrade there. Many Texas carriers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Stetson does not publish a materials list, so ask which Class 4 products it installs and get the discount confirmed by your insurer in writing.
How do I verify a roofer's insurance in Texas?
Ask for a certificate of insurance showing general liability and workers compensation, then call the insurance agent named on the certificate to confirm the policy is active and covers roofing. Do not accept a photocopy or a screenshot as proof. In Texas, insurance and references carry the weight a state license would carry elsewhere.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement near Ponder?
It depends entirely on the jurisdiction. Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection rules are set city by city and county by county. Ponder, Denton, Argyle, Justin and unincorporated Denton County all handle this differently. Ask the contractor who pulls the permit and confirm with your city hall.
Is Stetson Roofing & Construction BBB Accredited?
No. The BBB shows an A+ rating and a file opened on 18 March 2024, but the profile explicitly states the business is not a BBB Accredited Business. An A+ rating and accreditation are two different things, and accreditation is a paid programme.
How old is the company?
The BBB profile lists the business as started on 26 January 2022, so it is a young company. That is not a red flag on its own, but with a newer contractor it is worth asking who backs the workmanship warranty and what happens to it if the business changes hands.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Get the full scope in writing (decking replacement, underlayment, ventilation, flashing, disposal), the manufacturer and product line by name, the workmanship warranty length and who honours it, the payment schedule, and whether the price changes if the insurer pays more or less. Never pay the full amount up front, and be wary of anyone who offers to cover your deductible.
