About

The Houston office of State Roofing Company sits at 318 Addicks Howell Road, Houston 77079, in the Energy Corridor west of Beltway 8, on (281) 293-7000. It is the older of the company's two Texas registrations. The Better Business Bureau of Greater Houston and South Texas has held an accredited A+ profile for this address since 22 December 1998, listing John D Giffin as owner and SRC as an alternate trading name, with a listed fax and a toll free alternate line. RCAT carries the Houston registration separately from the College Station one. From Houston the company works Memorial, Bunker Hill Village, Hunters Creek Village, Hedwig Village, Spring Valley Village, Katy, Cinco Ranch, Sugar Land and Missouri City, on residential, commercial and multi-family property. The work list covers roof installation, repair, replacement and maintenance, re-roofing, commercial systems, inspections, emergency call outs, gutters and gutter guards and roof cleaning, with round the clock emergency response advertised. The BBB profile records the brands it sells as GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Decra and Boral, which lines up with a material range spanning asphalt shingles, metal, tile, TPO and flat systems, and coatings. The strongest verifiable credential is manufacturer standing. GAF's own contractor directory lists the Houston address at Master Elite level with President's Club Award status, GAF's top residential tier, which is what allows the Golden Pledge limited warranty on qualifying systems. RCAT's directory shows commercial and residential roofing licences, the earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential rather than plain dues paying membership. The company presents itself as an insurance loss specialist, which fits the pattern in inland Harris County, where roof claims are driven principally by hail and severe thunderstorm wind.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0169 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

State Roofing scheduled an appointment for me, on the day of installation I was running late getting home they had already started my new roof installation. Although my pickup was in the driveway. They were understanding and worked around it until I got home to me it. They did a fantastic job on the installation and the clean up. I like everything from the first contact with Emily to all the personnel I delt with. They also installed my new gutter system. Im satisfied with the complete process.

State Roofing replaced our roof April 2026 and we are very happy for their service. The inspection, communication and final roof installation was great and the work was done professionally and within a day. They also cleaned up good after the work. Based on our experience we can happily recommend State Roofing Company!

We just got our roof recently changed with State Roofing Company. I found their leaflet, they left a while back at our door saying: "We do not knock on your door!". Well originally coming from Europe, we are not used to soliciting and having companies sitting here trying to sell their products for hours! So that sentence on that piece of paper was already a winner for us! I checked out their credentials, BBB, Angie's List, etc and then I gave them a call. John (the owner) called me back to discuss our needs and a few days later we had a package at our door containing a quote, information about the company and information about the high quality products / materials they use. John asked when I would like to get the roof done and I asked if it was possible to get it done in a week time (spring break, so I had to be at home anyway as the kids were at home) and so we set the day to Thursday. I used information by John's guidance to fill our HOA Modification Application Form for a roof change, which was approved just the day before the project started. The team sent out was a very good team, all very courteous, professional, hard working and considerate. They covered up the windows with huge wooden panels and put tarp down all around the house for the debris to land on. They covered our pool very well too! They worked very hard and finished even with the clean up by 5pm. The work was checked and they collected the payment only then. John also told me that there is a form (which I received once our payment was cleared) that I can use to lower our insurance premium, due to the high quality materials they use (very resistant to hail damage, which we have a few times a year). I also have to mention the ladies at their home office. Whenever I called they always were super helpful, kind and sorted things very quickly. They are an amazing asset to the company! I am extremely grateful that I come across State Roofing company! The process was so easy and stress free, done in a very timely manner and very professionally! I already gave some of their cards to neighbors already! Here are some photos! First one is a before change. There is the sample board of the shingles we used on our roof, called weathered wood. The other pictures are of the roof after. Also one picture (not the best one, through the window) of the pool being covered. Well done State Roofing Company! Thank you very much for getting our roof done with such ease! God Bless you all!

We had an excellent experience with State Roofing Company from start to finish. Their customer service was outstanding—responsive, patient, and genuinely focused on making sure everything was done right. The crew was professional, punctual, and clearly took pride in their work. We have a large roof with a significant pitch, and they completed the job in a single day. And after their thorough cleanup, you wouldn't have known they had been there. What really set them apart was how knowledgeable and helpful they were with the insurance process. They walked us through every step. They simplified something we expected to be stressful and made it completely manageable. The quality of the work exceeded our expectations, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend State Roofing Company to anyone needing roofing services.

Frequently asked

Where is the Houston office and what does it cover?
The office is at 318 Addicks Howell Road, Houston 77079, in the Energy Corridor west of Beltway 8, on (281) 293-7000. The published coverage from that office runs across Memorial, Bunker Hill Village, Hunters Creek Village, Hedwig Village, Spring Valley Village, Katy, Cinco Ranch, Sugar Land and Missouri City. The company's College Station office is a separate registration serving the Brazos Valley.
Texas has no state roofing licence, so how do I actually vet a Houston roofer?
Work through four checks. One, current general liability and workers compensation certificates, verified by ringing the insurer rather than reading a PDF. Two, association standing, and whether it is RCAT membership or the earned RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential. Three, manufacturer certification confirmed on the manufacturer's own directory. Four, a physical local address you can visit and a complaint history you can read.
Does State Roofing hold the RCAT licence or just membership?
RCAT's own directory shows the Houston registration holding commercial and residential roofing licences. That is the Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, earned by examination and continuing education, and it is a different and higher thing than paying membership dues. Plenty of Texas roofers advertise RCAT membership as though it were a licence. Ask which one a contractor actually holds and check the directory.
How long has the Houston office been BBB accredited?
Since 22 December 1998, with an A+ rating, on the BBB of Greater Houston and South Texas profile for 318 Addicks Howell Road. That profile names John D Giffin as owner and records SRC as an alternate name. Nearly three decades of continuous accreditation at one address is a meaningful signal, but still read the actual complaint and review history rather than stopping at the grade.
How can I verify the GAF Master Elite claim?
Search GAF's own contractor locator at gaf.com for Houston, TX. The Houston listing for State Roofing Company appears there at Master Elite level with President's Club Award status. Master Elite is a small minority of North American roofers and is the tier that permits GAF's Golden Pledge limited warranty. Always check the manufacturer's directory rather than relying on a logo on a contractor's website.
Does the Houston area get hail, or is wind the bigger risk?
Both matter, but hail and severe thunderstorm wind drive most Harris County roof claims, and hail is the dominant story for roofing across inland Texas generally. Ask your own carrier exactly what your policy covers, whether it settles on replacement cost or actual cash value, and whether a separate wind and hail deductible applies. Those terms change the economics of a claim far more than the shingle choice does.
What roofing materials does the Houston office install?
Its own pages cover asphalt shingles, metal, tile, TPO and rubber flat systems, and roof coatings, which supports both residential and low slope commercial work. The BBB profile lists the brands sold as GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Decra and Boral. Ask for the specific product line and underlayment to be named in your contract, not just a shingle colour.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Houston?
Texas sets no statewide residential building code enforcement, so this is decided locally. Requirements differ between the City of Houston, unincorporated Harris County and the small Memorial villages such as Bunker Hill and Hunters Creek, which run their own building departments. Confirm the rule for your specific jurisdiction and put the permit responsibility in writing in the contract.
Does the company work with insurance carriers on storm claims?
It presents itself as an insurance loss specialist and offers claim documentation and coordination. Two limits are worth knowing in Texas. A roofing contractor cannot act as your public adjuster on the same claim, and it is unlawful for a contractor to pay, waive, rebate or absorb your insurance deductible. Any offer to make the deductible disappear should end the conversation.
What should a Houston homeowner ask before signing?
Ask which office is running the job and who your named point of contact is. Ask for live insurance certificates and verify them with the insurer. Ask whether the installing crew is employed or subcontracted. Get the manufacturer warranty tier, the separate workmanship warranty term and the exact product line written into the contract. Avoid paying the full contract price before completion.
