About

Cook DFW Roofing & Restoration is a family owned general contractor and roofing company based at 166 East Jefferson Street in Van Alstyne, Grayson County, working north Texas from Grayson down through Collin, Denton, Fannin, Hunt, Dallas and Tarrant counties. Its core work is residential and commercial roof replacement, roof repair and storm damage restoration, and it extends into gutters and downspouts, siding, windows, fencing, outdoor living and interior remodeling. On materials the company works with asphalt shingles including architectural profiles, metal roofing systems and modified bitumen, and its site also references premium systems such as slate and clay tile. Storm response is a stated focus: emergency tarping and customer service are offered seven days a week after hail, high wind and heavy rain events, which matters in a market that sits in the heart of the north Texas hail belt. Credential wise, Cook DFW Roofing and Restoration appears in the Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network as a Preferred Contractor on Owens Corning's own contractor directory, and it appears in GAF's contractor directory as well. Texas has no statewide roofing license, so verify current general liability and workers compensation coverage directly before signing.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0646 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Last summer, a severe storm with 70-mph winds, heavy rain, and golf-ball-sized hail caused significant damage to both the exterior and interior of our home. Based on strong recommendations from friends and neighbors, we contacted Daniel Cook DFW Roofing and Restorations, and we are extremely glad we did. Despite an exhausting day inspecting other damaged properties, Daniel arrived the very next evening—after dark—to personally assess our home and make immediate temporary repairs. With a compromised roof and broken windows, rainwater had caused extensive interior damage, but Daniel and his team acted quickly to secure and seal the home, preventing further loss. In the weeks that followed, the team completed permanent repairs, including a new roof with high-quality Class 4 shingles and ridge vents, replacement double-pane windows and frames, and extensive interior repairs and painting. Their attention to detail went beyond the damaged areas to ensure a seamless, like-new finish. The final additions of new shutters and screens were the perfect finishing touch. Throughout the entire process, Daniel and his team were professional, reliable, and considerate—always arriving on schedule and delivering exactly as promised. The results exceeded our expectations, restoring our home to a condition better than before the storm. We highly recommend Daniel Cook DFW Roofing and Restorations and look forward to working with them again on future projects.

Working with Keith at DFW Roofing & Restoration is always a pleasure. Keith is professional, responsive, timely, fair and transparent. He and his crew do incredible, high-quality work, and no job is too large or small; each are completed with the same care and attention to detail. It is difficult to find a contractor that is reliable, honest and accountable - so I feel fortunate to have found Keith and DFW Roofing & Restoration, and will continue to contact them for all of my roofing and chimney needs.

Very happy with all interactions with Josh @ Cook DFW Roofing & Restoration. We got a very good quote on replacing our roof and it was scheduled and completed almost immediately. The crew was very nice, cleaned up everything and were in and out in 1/2 a day. It took us a couple of months to get ANY roofing company to call us back. But DFW Roofing contacted us right away. And they never pressured us to make a decision after the quote. 5STARS!

Frequently asked

Does Texas issue a state roofing license?
No. Texas has no statewide roofing license, so no north Texas roofer is state licensed for roofing. The checks that actually mean something are proof of insurance, RCAT standing, manufacturer certification verified on the manufacturer's own directory, and city registration where the city requires it.
What does RCAT Member status mean for Cook DFW?
Cook DFW Roofing & Restorations is listed with the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas as a Member, which means the company pays dues and takes part in the association. It is separate from RCAT's individually earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential and the two should not be treated as equivalent.
What is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor?
Preferred is a tier in the Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network. Contractors must meet the network's requirements on credentials, insurance and standing to be listed, and the tier gives access to enhanced Owens Corning system warranties on qualifying installs. Cook DFW appears at this tier on Owens Corning's own contractor directory.
Is Grayson County in the Texas hail belt?
Yes. Grayson County and the wider north Texas corridor sit in the most hail prone part of the state. Damaging hail is a routine spring risk there, and hail bruising frequently does not leak straight away, so a post storm inspection is worth doing even when nothing is dripping.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth the upgrade in north Texas?
Often yes in this market. Class 4 is the top result in the UL 2218 impact test and many Texas insurers give a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Confirm the exact discount with your own carrier before paying for the upgrade, because it varies significantly between insurers.
What does Cook DFW do immediately after a storm?
Its site states that emergency tarp and customer service teams are available seven days a week to help homeowners after hail, heavy rain, tornadoes and other severe weather. Temporary tarping limits interior damage while the claim and the permanent repair are worked out.
Can a roofer negotiate my insurance claim for me?
No. Under Texas law a roofing contractor cannot act as a public insurance adjuster or negotiate your claim on your behalf. A roofer can inspect, document damage, meet the adjuster on site and provide a written scope. Be wary of anyone offering to cover or waive your deductible.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement in Van Alstyne or Collin County?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so requirements are set city by city. Most north Texas cities require a permit for a roof replacement, and several also require the roofer to register with the city. Ask in writing who pulls the permit and confirm with the specific city for your address.
How long does a roof replacement take?
A typical asphalt shingle replacement on a north Texas home is usually a one to two day job in good weather, longer for steep or complex roofs, metal systems, tile or slate, or where decking has to be replaced. After a widespread hail event, material and crew availability often extend the wait more than the install itself.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in north Texas?
Ask for the certificate of insurance direct from the agent, the exact shingle line and color, whether decking replacement is priced per sheet, the ventilation plan, who pulls the permit, the length and terms of the workmanship warranty, whether the manufacturer system warranty will be registered, the payment schedule, and whether crews are employees or subcontracted. Insist all of it is on the written contract.
