About

Blue Truss is a roofing contractor based at 3513 N Loop 336 W, Building A, in Conroe, on the border of Conroe and The Woodlands. It serves Montgomery County and the northwest Houston corridor. The company states it was founded in 2018, while its BBB file records the business start date as July 2020. Jason Howanec is the founder and owner. The focus is premium residential work: roof replacement, roof repair, storm and hail damage, emergency repair, FORTIFIED roofing, a roof maintenance programme, seamless gutters and LeafBlaster Pro gutter guards. The manufacturer credentials here are unusually well documented, and both were checked on the manufacturers' own directories rather than taken from the company's marketing. CertainTeed's contractor profile lists Blue Truss as a ShingleMaster PREMIER contractor since 2023, able to offer CertainTeed's 5 Star warranty. GAF's contractor directory lists Blue Truss LLC of Conroe as a Master Elite roofer, the tier GAF entrusts with its Golden Pledge limited warranty. The company also promotes IBHS FORTIFIED roof installation and is BBB accredited with an A+ rating. It advertises a zero deposit policy, with nothing paid until the work is finished. On reviews, the company's own reviews page displays a 5.0 Google rating with 200 plus reviews, and it was voted Best of The Woodlands roofing company for 2025 and again for 2026. We could not open the Google listing directly to confirm the exact figure, so the Google fields are left blank here, but the review base is plainly a large one rather than a handful. Separately, CertainTeed's own directory shows 4.86 out of 5 from 38 reviews on its platform, which is a useful reality check on a perfect score.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0658 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We recently had Blue Truss replace our roof and we could not be happier. From our initial consultation through follow-up after the roof was complete, we were impressed with the level of professionalism demonstrated by Jason and his crew. Clear, concise communication, superior materials, and outstanding craftsmanship defined our experience with Blue Truss from beginning to end. Jason was always accessible and quick to answer our questions. He also provided valuable insight in helping us navigate a difficult insurance claim - exactly the sort of customer service you always hope for but don’t often receive. Lance and the Blue Truss crew “nailed it”. We were impressed with their attention to detail, from the decking and shingles to flashing and gutters - all impeccable work. Pricing was right on point as well. We have already recommended Blue Truss to friends of ours as we feel strongly that Blue Truss is The Best of The Woodlands.

This past Tuesday, we discovered a leak in our roof and quickly scrambled to find a reputable, certified company that could handle an emergency. Blue Truss seemed like a great choice, so we called and spoke with Jason and I'm so glad we did! He was incredibly thorough, walking us through all the possible scenarios and making sure we fully understood our options before making any decisions. We ended up going with CertainTeed shingles, and the price was perfectly in line with every estimate I'd found online. Because of the tropical storm, we had to wait until Saturday for the replacement. Jason's team showed up at 6 AM and had everything completed about six hours later. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend Blue Truss!

Really want to thank the crew of Blue Truss for the outstanding work they did replacing my roof. From initial contact with JT to finished project we were kept well informed. Everything was fully documented for review, providing us peace of mind. The work quality was exceptional. Of If I had to do it all again I wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you Blue Truss.

We hired Blue Truss to replace our roof and were thoroughly impressed. Jason was easy to work with, communicated clearly, made the process simple, and offered a good product at a good price. Lance and his team completed the job on time, cleaned up everything perfectly, and did a walk around with me to review the work and answer any questions I might have. Both Jason and Lance asked us to call them if we noticed anything that needed addressing or follow up. We highly recommend Blue Truss for their reliability, quality work and value.

Frequently asked

Does Texas license roofing contractors?
No. There is no state roofing licence in Texas, so no roofer here can be state licensed. What matters instead is current general liability and workers compensation insurance, a verifiable local address, voluntary credentials such as RCAT status, and any registration your city requires. Ask for certificates of insurance and verify them with the insurer, not just the contractor.
This listing says RCAT Licensed. How is that different from RCAT Member?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas runs two separate things. Anyone in the trade can join as a dues paying Member. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is earned separately and requires meeting RCAT's qualification, experience and standing requirements, and it is held by a minority of Texas roofers. Blue Truss is recorded here at the Licensed level, which is the stronger of the two. It is still a voluntary industry credential, not a government licence.
Conroe is in Montgomery County. Do the coastal windstorm rules apply?
No. Montgomery County is not one of the 14 first tier coastal counties covered by TWIA, so WPI-8 windstorm certification is not part of a normal reroof here. That applies further south along the Gulf. Inland Montgomery County roofs are designed around hail, straight line wind, heavy rain and long hot summers instead.
What is a FORTIFIED roof and is it worth it?
FORTIFIED is a construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety that goes beyond minimum code, with a sealed roof deck, ring shank nails, better edge detailing and documented inspection. Blue Truss is certified to install it. Some insurers give premium credits for a FORTIFIED designation, so ask your own carrier what it is worth before deciding.
What does GAF Master Elite actually get me?
Master Elite is GAF's top contractor tier and it is what allows a roofer to offer the Golden Pledge limited warranty, GAF's strongest, which covers workmanship as well as materials for a defined period. GAF's own contractor directory lists Blue Truss at this level. Ask for the specific warranty document before you sign, because the warranty depends on the exact system installed.
What does CertainTeed ShingleMaster PREMIER mean?
It is a top tier CertainTeed credential that lets a contractor offer CertainTeed's 5 Star warranty on qualifying systems. CertainTeed's own profile for Blue Truss shows the credential has been held since 2023. As with GAF, the enhanced warranty applies only when the full manufacturer system is installed, so check that the quote specifies it.
Should I choose impact resistant Class 4 shingles?
It is worth pricing anywhere hail reaches, and Montgomery County does get hail alongside its wind and rain. Class 4 is the top UL 2218 impact rating. Many Texas insurers give a premium discount for a Class 4 roof, so ask your carrier what the discount is and how long it lasts before paying the upgrade.
Do I need a permit for a reroof in Conroe or The Woodlands?
Texas has no statewide code enforcement, so it depends on your jurisdiction. Conroe issues roofing permits through the city, and unincorporated Montgomery County and the various Woodlands townships have their own rules. Confirm with your local authority and make the contract state who pulls the permit and who pays.
Is the deposit really zero?
That is the company's published policy: no deposit before work begins, and you pay once the job is complete and you are satisfied. That is unusual and worth confirming in writing on your own contract. Separately, remember that no Texas contractor may pay, waive or absorb your insurance deductible. Under HB 2102 that has been illegal since September 2019.
How much should I trust a perfect 5.0 rating?
Check the sample behind it. Blue Truss publishes a 5.0 Google rating with 200 plus reviews, which is a large base rather than a token one, though we could not confirm the exact number on Google itself. As a cross check, CertainTeed's own directory shows 4.86 out of 5 from 38 reviews on its platform. Reading a spread of actual reviews will tell you more than any headline number.
