About

Smith & Ramirez Roofing is the trading brand of Smith and Ramirez Restoration, LLC, based at 1719 Wyoming Ave, El Paso, TX 79902. The BBB file records the business as started on 4/24/2012 with Tyrone Smith and Alejandro Ramirez as owners, and shows it BBB Accredited with an A+ rating since 4/30/2018. The company's own service area page also dates its El Paso and Las Cruces coverage to 2012. The site publishes (915) 900-2988 as the contact number, while BBB and GAF both list (915) 600-2866. The strongest verifiable credential is with GAF. GAF's own contractor directory lists Smith & Ramirez Restoration LLC at the Master Elite level with President's Club status and a FORTIFIED Roof specialty, and describes the company as the only 2 Star Master Elite contractor in El Paso. Master Elite is GAF's top factory certification tier and is limited to a small share of contractors in any market. The company also works with Eagle Roofing Products and Westlake tile, Unified Steel stone coated roofing, Polyglass low slope systems and VELUX skylights, and installs GAF Timberline solar shingles. El Paso is a very different roofing market from the rest of Texas. Far West Texas gets relentless high altitude sun and UV, wide day to night temperature swings, very low annual rainfall, spring wind and dust, and then the North American monsoon from roughly July into September that delivers short, intense downpours onto a housing stock full of flat and low slope roofs with parapet walls. Roofs here typically fail through UV breakdown, thermal cycling, cracked membranes and ponding rather than through the repeated large hail that drives the North Texas market. That is why the company's service mix leans on commercial and low slope work, roof coatings, tile and stone coated steel as well as shingles. Coverage runs across El Paso County (Anthony, Clint, Horizon, San Elizario, Socorro and Vinton) and over the state line into Las Cruces, Anthony, Chaparral, Mesilla and Sunland Park in New Mexico. The company states it carries 15 and 30 year labour warranties on roof replacement and uses its own employees rather than subcontractors.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0216 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Everything went pretty good with Smith And Ramirez Roofing. I decided to have a roof replacement done., before my roof got much older. I called around, and came across Smith and Ramirez on the Internet. They sent Brady out to give me a quote and he went over what types of shingles they had to offer.. I went with the GAF Timberline HDZ shingles, that was the shingle that I researched and I felt it would work best for the high winds in my area, so they scheduled me an install date. They did a good job from start to finish, and the workers that did the roof replacement were very respectful and they cleaned up at the end of each day. It only took them a few days to get all the work done.. The roof came out very nice and should last for many years. Another thing that sold me was Brady’s product knowledge, warranty, and the unlimited wind rating on the shingles. I will definitely be recommending this company to my friends and family.

Alex and his team did a superb job on replacing our 26 yr+ tile roof which suffered from leaks and poor maintenance from the previous owner. There's nothing worse than the feeling of worry when it rains and you have a bad roof. After Alex's team replaced our roof, we've experienced several rains with zero issues to our interior. No more wet, damaged drywall or puddles on the floor! It's the best feeling to know your home has a solid roof. The team showed up on time and did a great job keeping the area clean which I also appreciated. A side benefit is our house looks amazing now! The new roof really makes the whole house look updated and modern. Best investment we could have made for the home. Thanks Smith & Ramirez roofing team!

Frequently asked

Is this company licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing contractor licence, so no Texas roofer holds one. What you can verify is insurance, standing in the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas directory, and any City of El Paso registration. This company is listed with the RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, an industry credential earned through the association rather than a government licence. New Mexico is different: it does license contractors through its Construction Industries Division, so if your job is in Las Cruces or Sunland Park, ask for the New Mexico licence number.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
RCAT Member means the company pays association dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately by an individual through testing and continuing education. The two are commonly confused in advertising. This company is listed with the Licensed credential.
What does GAF Master Elite mean, and what is President's Club?
Master Elite is the top tier of GAF's factory certification programme and requires insurance, a documented track record and ongoing training, so only a limited share of contractors in any market qualify. President's Club is a further GAF award layered on top of it. GAF's own directory shows both for this company and describes it as the only 2 Star Master Elite contractor in El Paso. Master Elite status is also what makes GAF's strongest system warranties available on qualifying installations.
What actually destroys roofs in El Paso?
Sun and temperature, mostly. El Paso sits at over 3,700 feet with roughly 300 sunny days a year, so UV exposure is punishing and daily temperature swings of 30 degrees or more flex materials constantly until they crack, split and lose granules. Spring brings wind and blowing dust that scours surfaces and clogs drains. Hail happens but nothing like the frequency that dominates North and Central Texas, so an El Paso roof usually ages to death rather than being destroyed in one storm.
How does monsoon season affect my roof?
The North American monsoon typically runs from July into September and delivers short, violent downpours onto a desert climate that has been dry for months. The failure pattern is water finding cracked membrane, split seams, failed parapet flashing or a scupper and drain blocked with dust and debris. The practical move is to have low slope roofs inspected and drains cleared in June, before the monsoon starts, rather than after the first leak.
Why do so many El Paso homes have flat or low slope roofs?
The regional building tradition, from adobe and Southwestern styles through mid century construction, favours flat roofs with parapet walls, and the low rainfall made them practical. Those roofs are built up, modified bitumen, single ply or coated systems rather than shingles, and they need different inspection and maintenance: check for ponding, blistering, cracked flashing at the parapet, and clear drains and scuppers.
Is a roof coating a real fix or a way to delay replacement?
It depends entirely on the substrate. A reflective coating over a sound low slope membrane can extend service life and cut heat gain, which matters a lot under El Paso sun. A coating sprayed over a saturated or delaminating roof just hides the problem and traps moisture. Insist on a moisture survey or core cut before agreeing to coat rather than replace, and get the coating manufacturer's warranty terms in writing.
Do tile and stone coated steel roofs make sense in this climate?
They hold up well against UV and heat, which is the main enemy here, and they last far longer than asphalt in high sun. The trade offs are weight for concrete tile, which needs the structure checked first, and cost. This company works with Eagle Roofing Products and Westlake tile and with Unified Steel stone coated roofing, so ask for a side by side life cycle comparison against a shingle system rather than just the up front price.
Do I need a permit to re-roof in El Paso?
Texas has no statewide residential roofing code enforcement, so this is decided locally. Confirm the requirement with the City of El Paso, or with El Paso County if you are outside city limits, and have the contractor pull the permit in its own name. If your property is in a historic district, expect additional review on materials and appearance.
Can a roofer pay my insurance deductible?
No. Texas Insurance Code Chapter 707 makes it illegal for a contractor to pay, waive, rebate or absorb an insurance deductible, and illegal for a homeowner to knowingly accept it. Before signing anything, also ask for the certificate of general liability and workers compensation insurance, the written scope with the exact product and colour, the manufacturer certification number, the labour warranty terms and who will be on site supervising.
