About

Prime Texas Metal Roofs is a Houston roofing contractor whose specialisation is exactly what the name says: metal roofing. The company works out of 2417 North Freeway, Suite 200, in Houston, and describes itself as a provider of durable, energy efficient roofing for commercial and residential properties across Texas and the Gulf Coast. It was founded by Alberto Alaniz, who moved an existing construction business into a dedicated metal and commercial roofing company in 2017 after a long career in real estate and construction. The metal side is the heart of the offer rather than one option on a list. The company installs steel standing seam and other standing seam systems, and aluminium shake style metal shingles for homeowners who want a metal roof that reads as a traditional shingle or shake roof from the street. Around that core it also handles conventional work: composition shingles, tile, TPO and other flat and low-slope commercial systems, and seamless aluminium gutters. Services span new construction and re-roofing, storm repair, roof inspections, and annual maintenance sold through what it calls Prime Maintenance Plans. Its published project range runs from single family homes up to multi-family developments, hotels, airports, government facilities and distribution centres. The company is RCAT registered under member id 1209 as a Member, and it lists Houston area industry affiliations including HARCA (the Houston Area Roofing Contractors Association), the Greater Houston Builders Association, and Texas SBA membership. Texas has no state roofing licence, so verify general liability and workers compensation coverage directly with the insurer before signing any contract.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Super friendly and Professional! Came out quickly after Hurricane Laura. Gave us a GREAT quote. As soon as material arrived, they were there to fix the roof. Did a great job in 1.5 days!! Would definitely recommend and will use again !! Call Randy he’s the BEST

Pam Lemoine· 4 years ago

Immediately after Hurricane Laura, I not only had a new roof, but was able to have my home repaired by Texas Metal within a few weeks. A crew showed up every day and worked until the job was complete. Randy kept in close contact throughout the job making sure everything was getting done to my satisfaction.

Alberto was very helpful throughout the design and installation process. The finished product is simply great. We have received so many complements from neighbors and passers by as to how the appearance of the whole house has improved. Not as inexpensive as composition, but we feel certain this is our last roof and we also feel it has increased the home value. Very good product from very good folks. Mike O.

Took over 6 months to work on a new roof for a two-car detached garage. Demolition went well. However, they attempted to install incorrect roofing panels and I had to stop them so they could order the correct panels, which led to a series of monthly delays and excuses. Salesman left for another company in middle of job. Workers mostly unsupervised during installation. Installed improper plumbing vent. Would not correct work in a timely manner -- more excuses and delays. Finally had to hire another roofing company to complete the job properly.

Response to Kala Gamblin (Review from 2 weeks ago) 1) I do not work for Prime Texas Metal Roofs; therefore, I have no access to their systems in order to generate "phony" estimates or pricing, etc. 2) The quote was for a roof maintenance and the installation of gutters highly recommended by the inspector and Prime Texas Metal Roofs 3) My due diligence was to the buyer (my client) who purchased the home you were selling. 4) You were rightfully given the option to make repairs OR not and to choose the vendor at your own discretion. 5)We successfully closed on the transaction. At the end of it all, you sold a home to my client and my client walked away extremely satisfied with my services. Not only did she walk away with the home of her first choice but equity as well! Thank you. Jessica Miranda

Frequently asked

What does it mean that Prime Texas Metal Roofs is a metal roofing specialist?
Metal is the core product, not an upsell. The company is built around standing seam metal systems, including steel standing seam, plus aluminium shake style metal shingles for homeowners who want the look of a traditional shake or shingle roof in metal. It does still install composition shingles, tile, TPO and seamless gutters, but the metal work is the specialisation the business is named for.
What is standing seam and why is it used in Texas?
Standing seam is a metal panel system where the fasteners are hidden inside raised vertical seams instead of being driven through the face of the panel. No exposed fastener means no rubber washer sitting in the Texas sun waiting to crack, which is the usual failure point on cheap exposed-fastener metal. It also handles the large thermal movement that comes with Houston summers better than a screw-down panel.
Does a metal roof make sense in the Houston heat?
It can. Metal reflects rather than absorbs a large share of solar radiation, and painted or coated metal in a light colour with the right finish can carry an ENERGY STAR or Cool Roof rating. The real gain depends on colour, coating and the ventilation and insulation underneath, so ask for the specific product's reflectance figures rather than accepting a general claim that metal is cooler.
Is Prime Texas Metal Roofs licensed by the State of Texas?
There is no such thing. Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no Texas roofer can truthfully claim to be state licensed for roofing. Judge a contractor here on verified insurance, manufacturer approvals, association standing, local registration where the city requires it, and references on comparable jobs.
What does RCAT Member mean on this listing?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. This company appears in the RCAT directory as a Member, meaning it is a dues-paying member of the association. RCAT separately awards an earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) which is a different qualification. Member status by itself does not mean the company holds that credential.
What insurance should a Houston property owner verify before signing?
Ask for a certificate of insurance emailed straight from the agency, not a PDF handed over by the salesperson, showing current general liability and Texas workers compensation. Workers compensation is the one that bites: Texas does not require most private employers to carry it, and a roofing fall on an uninsured crew can become the property owner's problem. Confirm the dates cover the actual install window.
Does a metal roof help with hail?
Partly. Many metal panel systems carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, which is the top rating and often earns a discount on the windstorm and hail portion of a Texas homeowner's premium. Be clear about what Class 4 does and does not mean: it addresses functional damage such as splitting and puncture, not cosmetic denting. If dents matter to you, ask specifically whether the policy and the manufacturer warranty exclude cosmetic damage, because many do.
How long does a metal roof last compared with composition shingles?
Manufacturers generally rate quality standing seam systems well beyond a typical architectural asphalt shingle roof, which is a large part of why the up-front cost is higher. Actual life in Houston depends on the metal gauge, the coating system, the quality of the flashing details, and how the roof is ventilated. Ask for the written manufacturer warranty and the separate workmanship warranty in the proposal, because they are not the same document and often not the same length.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Houston?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is set city by city and county by county. The City of Houston does require a permit for roof replacement, and requirements differ again in Harris County unincorporated areas and in surrounding municipalities such as Katy, Pearland and Sugar Land. Confirm in writing that the contractor is pulling the permit in its own name, not asking you to pull it as the owner.
What should a homeowner ask before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Get the full scope in writing: manufacturer and product name, panel gauge or shingle line, underlayment, decking replacement price per sheet, flashing and ventilation details, who pulls the permit, cleanup and disposal, and the payment schedule. Avoid large deposits before materials are delivered. If the work is an insurance claim, be aware that Texas law prohibits a contractor from paying or rebating your deductible, so treat any offer to waive it as a warning sign.
