About

Martin Roofing & Solar is a Houston based roofing and solar contractor working out of 7676 Hillmont St, Suite 295, Houston, TX 77040, with a second office at 2211 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78741. The Houston line is 832-617-4037 and the Austin line is 512-298-2944. The company handles residential and commercial roof repair, replacement and inspection, storm damage assessment, insurance claim assistance, emergency leak work, and solar panel installation, including removing and reinstalling existing panels when a roof underneath them is replaced. On credentials, one item is verified at the manufacturer's own directory: CertainTeed lists the company on its contractor profiles as ShingleMaster PREMIER, held since 2023. The company is also listed in the Tile Roofing Alliance contractor directory. Its own site additionally claims GAF Certified Contractor status, National Roofing Contractors Association membership and a Google Guaranteed badge. Those three are stated by the company and were not confirmed in the relevant public directories during this review, so treat them as claims rather than verified credentials. Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so there is no state licence number to check. What a homeowner can check is current general liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT status, manufacturer credentials, and whether the city requires a permit for the job. Hail and high wind are the practical risks on a Houston roof, and impact rated Class 4 shingles are worth asking about.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We had an outstanding experience with Martin Roofing and Solar. We had a serious concern with a roof leak, and their team responded quickly and professionally. We were contacted by Ethan who, from the initial call and visit, to the final inspection, gave us a sense of confidence that we were in the hands of true experts. He explained the problem clearly and provided a straightforward plan to fix it. He also took the time to inspect the surrounding areas to ensure there were no additional concerns. What really impressed me was Ethan’s attention to detail and his commitment to keeping us informed of the progress, and after all was done, leaving everything in perfect condition. They took care of removing our solar panels and reinstall them after the roof replacement was done. The crew worked quickly and efficiently. Their professionalism, reliability, and quality of service exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Martin Roofing and Solar to anyone in need of roofing or solar services. Their dedication to customer satisfaction is second to none! We can now feel secure under our roof. Thank you, Ethan! …and Martin Roofing and Solar.

From the moment Tommy walked in our home I knew this would be the company to replace our roof. After Tommy there was Micheal and he coordinated the date and time the roof would be replaced. He helped decide on what color gutters we needed which will be perfect. Not installed just yet, but Tommy will coordinate that. The young man who was there to supervise the who job was Gavin. This young man was so kind and answered ALL my questions about the back part of our house. Thank you also to all the fellows that were there putting on our roof. They did it all in one day. From tearing the old roof off, putting the new roof on and the clean up. I am so happy and proud of our roof. This old house looks like it got a little face lift. Thank you Martin Roofing for a JOB WELL DONE.

Martin Roofing & Solar did a fabulous job on my roof. They dealt with my insurance representative, were on time, finished in one day, and cleaned everything up, even putting my patio furniture back in place. You would not even know they were here yesterday. except for the beautiful new roof. I highly recommend them. The best roofing company on Tiki Island!

Tommy installed a roof for me probably four years ago, really great job. This time, my fence needs to be replaced. I do not know whether he work on fence. So I tried to message him. Fortunately, he responded very quickly and gave me a great quote, more than I expected. His guy worked very professionally. I even have not come to the site to check the job. My tenant told me that the work has been done and he is very satisfied with the job. It is great to work with Tommy. Will continue to look for services from Tommy.

Frequently asked

Is Martin Roofing & Solar licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not license roofing contractors at the state level, so no roofer in Texas has a state roofing licence number. Judge a Houston roofer on current general liability and workers compensation insurance certificates, association standing such as RCAT, manufacturer credentials, and a written contract. Ask for the insurance certificates to be sent directly from the insurer or agent.
What does the RCAT Member status on this listing mean?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. A plain Member pays dues and participates in the association. That is different from RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL), which requires testing and additional requirements. This company is carried as a Member, not as an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor.
Which of the company's certifications are actually verified?
CertainTeed's own contractor directory lists Martin Roofing & Solar as ShingleMaster PREMIER, held since 2023, and the Tile Roofing Alliance lists the company in its contractor directory. The GAF Certified Contractor, NRCA membership and Google Guaranteed claims come from the company's own website and were not confirmed in the corresponding public directories during this review.
How do I know whether my Houston roof actually needs replacing?
A free inspection should hand you evidence, not just a verdict. Ask for photographs of what was found: bruised or fractured shingle mats from hail, creased or lifted tabs from wind, granule loss collecting in the gutters, cracked pipe boots, failed flashing at walls and chimneys, and any soft decking. Age counts too, since Houston heat and humidity often shorten a shingle roof's real service life well before the warranty number runs out.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in the Houston area?
Houston sees less hail than the North Texas Hail Alley corridor, but severe thunderstorms and wind-driven debris still take roofs off. Class 4 impact-rated shingles carry the top UL 2218 rating, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them. Ask your carrier what the discount is worth on your policy, then ask for a Class 4 option to be priced alongside the standard shingle.
Do they do solar as well as roofing?
Yes. The company installs solar panels and also removes and reinstalls existing panels when the roof beneath them is being replaced. That matters because a re-roof under an array installed by someone else usually needs the panels detached and reset, and having one contractor own both steps avoids a warranty argument later.
Do they take commercial work or only houses?
Both. The site lists commercial roof repair, commercial roof replacement and commercial roof inspections alongside its residential services, and it names flat roofing among the systems it works on. For a large low-slope or industrial building, ask which specific membrane system is being proposed and what manufacturer warranty comes with it.
Who pulls the permit for a Houston re-roof?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement for this, so permitting and inspection rules are set city by city and county by county. The City of Houston generally requires a permit for a re-roof. Get it in writing that the contractor pulls the permit in its own name and schedules any required inspection, rather than asking you to pull an owner permit.
What should I check before signing a storm damage contract in Texas?
Get a written scope with shingle brand, line, colour, underlayment, flashing, ventilation and decking allowance. Do not pay a large deposit up front. Read any clause that assigns your insurance benefits or locks you in if the claim is approved. Under Texas law a contractor cannot pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible, so treat any offer to cover it as a red flag.
