Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I have had work done in the past and if I had any issues they came to check and fix it. This time it was a different issue and they were able to send someone out quickly and did some preventative measures I cased it rain till they could do the work the next week. I had pictures sent with the work before and after and didn’t have to be home for the repairs. They also cover work for a little Bit after work is complete. Would recommend to everyone

Two stars because the tech that came out was crazy friendly and very knowledgeable. I had called my home warranty because I had a minor leak in my roof I am pretty sure that I new exactly what it was but did not want do the repair myself. The tech comes out looks at everything and agrees with me. He told me it was a simple fix with some flashing and a little sealant should be an easy repair. He was going to get the repair approved by the warranty company and get it fixed easy. A few hours latter I receive the estimate and honestly did not look at it. I knew the warranty company would call and then set up the repair. I get a call from Elite roofing telling me that while he was up looking at this small little spot that needed repaired he also took pictures of my entire roof and that I needed a whole roof repair done. If the tech would have even mentioned that I would be less upset. She sent me a video and linked the damage to a storm that never even had hail in my area. I even told them hey I guess I need a new roof sometime soon but my insurance has a 10k deductible and it would take a little bit to get that money raised. I asked them to just do the simple repair and then down the road in six months or so I would get with them to do the roof. We went back and forth a lot about the need for the entire roof getting done. She finally said that she would make the quote to do the simple repair and get it out to me and the warranty company. What started as a simple repair with a little bit of flashing and some sealant now all of sudden was a major repair with 3 bundles of shingles and was going to cost me about 1500 dollars to repair. She also tried to tell me that the tech did repair the spot in question but he clearly did not. Owning a home is like owning a used car and sadly companies like this can get your info and spam call you for days on in. "Hey we are going to be in the area and just wanted to let you know and see if you wanted a free estimate". The thing that really makes me mad is that I turn down so many of these calls every time a small storm happens. I invited this company into my home to solve a minor problem and their tech even agreed it was a minor problem. They then took that invite into my home to go ahead and do a roof inspection (which I never agreed to) like all these spam callers and then try to up-sell me. When they couldn't, the simple repair became a major one. I guess maybe I will need a new roof down the road and that doesn't surprise me that much it is Texas after all but the Tech could have said he this is a pretty easy repair but man your roof is a little roof or even he while I was looking I noticed some damage from hail I would also like to give you a quote to repair the roof. He did neither just told me it was an easy fix and he would get it approved. If you are going to do a full inspection let the customer know, if you think the roof needs to be repaired let the customer know, and if you are going to have some pushy sales person call to try and up-sell the customer let them know.

Just had a section of vertical shingles replaced with exterior trim and paneling. Both of the teams for this project (demo/siding and painters) were exceptional! They were communicative and respectful of my house and time, and their craftsmanship and care really shows in the finished product! Will keep their info for future projects, highly recommend!

Frequently asked

Does Texas require a state license for roofing contractors?
No. Texas has no state roofing license. Roofers may voluntarily join the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT). Elite Roofing appears in the RCAT directory as a Member, which means it belongs to the association. Homeowners should always ask any roofer for current proof of liability insurance.
Is an RCAT Member the same as an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
No. RCAT Member means the company belongs to the association. The RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is a separate, voluntarily earned designation that requires passing an exam and meeting insurance requirements. This listing reflects Member status.
Is the McKinney office Elite Roofing's headquarters?
No. The company headquarters is at 900 Apollo Street in Houston, and the Houston BBB profile lists the McKinney office as an additional location. The McKinney branch at 5900 S. Lake Forest Drive, Suite 300 has its own local phone number and its own BBB accreditation.
What should McKinney homeowners do after a hail storm?
Collin County sits in the heart of Texas Hail Alley. Document the damage with photos, get a roof inspection, and contact your insurer promptly. Elite Roofing advertises free inspections and storm restoration. Be wary of out-of-town storm chasers and verify insurance before signing.
Can a roofer pay or waive my insurance deductible in Texas?
No. Since 2019 Texas law makes it illegal for a contractor to pay, waive, absorb or rebate a homeowner's insurance deductible. A contractor offering to do so is breaking the law, and insurers can require proof that you paid your deductible.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in McKinney?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting is handled city by city. Check with the City of McKinney's permitting office about whether your reroof needs a permit. A reputable contractor will know the local rules for your address.
What roofing materials does Elite Roofing install?
For homes the company installs GAF shingle roofing systems and advertises a GAF lifetime roofing system. For commercial buildings it lists TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen, metal roofing and roof coatings.
What warranties does Elite Roofing offer?
As a GAF Master Elite Contractor the company can offer GAF's enhanced warranties, and its website advertises a lifetime warranty covering GAF materials and labor it installs. Always get the specific warranty terms for your project in writing before signing.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in McKinney?
Often yes. North Texas sees frequent large hail, Class 4 shingles resist impact damage better than standard shingles, and many Texas insurers offer premium discounts for them. Ask your insurer about discounts and get the exact shingle rating in your quote.
What should I ask a roofer before signing a contract in Texas?
Ask for a certificate of liability insurance sent directly from the insurer, local references, a written scope of work with the exact materials, the warranty terms, and how change orders are handled. Confirm the contract does not offer to cover your deductible, which is illegal in Texas.
