About

Strata Roofing & Construction is headquartered at 4133 Katy Hockley Road in Katy, which the company markets as its Houston office and which the BBB records as the business headquarters. The company was incorporated on 6 August 2008 and has held BBB accreditation at this address since October 2008, currently rated A+. Its own contact page lists exactly two offices, Katy and Lufkin, with the Katy line at (281) 477-0244. The Katy operation covers the Houston metro and surrounding communities, with the company naming Spring, Cypress, Sugar Land, Katy and League City among the areas it serves. Work spans residential and commercial roofing: replacement and new installation, repair and leak detection, inspections, roof ventilation and ridge vents, gutter installation, energy efficiency consultation, 24/7 emergency response, and hail and storm damage documentation. The materials list is unusually broad for a Houston area contractor and includes asphalt and composition shingles, standing seam, R panel, corrugated and 5V crimp metal, metal shingles, concrete and clay tile, real and synthetic slate, wood shake, and the flat and low slope commercial systems TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen and built up. GAF's own contractor directory lists the company as GAF Certified at this Katy address, which permits System Plus and Silver Pledge limited warranties on qualifying roof systems. The BBB headquarters record also shows additional company locations in Lufkin, McAllen and on Pinemont Drive in Houston. The company separately states on its website that it is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster and Master Shingle Applicator, a claim that could not be confirmed in CertainTeed's public contractor directory.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0214 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Strata roofing did an excellent job! I appreciated their timeliness and professionalism! John Horne personally oversaw my project and was great to work with. We had our entire roof replaced and had skylights put in and I LOVE them! I will definitely keep Strata Roofing on my remodel team for future projects and highly recommended them!

We could not have been more pleased with the work done by Strata Roofing. Our salesman, John Horne, was outstanding. His photos and supplementary information were instrumental in helping us obtain a warranty claim with the company that manufactured the original shingles on the house. He was present on the day the new roof was installed and personally supervised the clean-up. Communication throughout was excellent, and the job started and was completed as promised. Very highly recommend!

My 1st time to have to replace a roof (due to a crazy Hail Storm). Chris Greenway and his entire crew were over and above excellent. Met with my Insurance Adjustor, informative, educational and communication throughout the entire process was great. Chris provided some addresses so I could see the Roof/Shingle colors on an actual house. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS as the colors on the Brochure and when on a House are totally different. I appreciated the Drone photos and being kept up to date through out the process. The Clean up afterwards was top notch. The eye for little details including moving my bird feeder poles back exactly where they were before, WOW! Detail and Customer Service oriented. Thank you Chris and Strata. I have already recommended you to several neighbors.

Strata Roofing and Construction recently completed a full shingle replacement on our home, and we had a great experience. From the initial consultation to the final cleanup, their professionalism and dedication to quality were evident every step of the way. The project was completed in just two days. The team arrived promptly each morning, worked diligently throughout the day, and ensured that every aspect of the job was executed flawlessly. There was no debris left behind, and our landscaping remained untouched, showcasing their respect for our property. Communication was seamless throughout the process. The project manager kept us informed of progress and was always available to answer any questions. Their transparency and commitment to staying within budget provided peace of mind, eliminating any unexpected surprises. We highly recommend them.

Dave is not only extremely responsible but the work quality was exceptional. We worked remotely almost all through the job and the work came out perfect. He also came up with new ideas and solutions to help me out with some very particular issues in my old concrete tile roof.

Frequently asked

Is a Houston area roofer licensed by the State of Texas?
No. Texas issues no state roofing licence, so any contractor claiming to be state licensed for roofing is misinformed. Verify insurance instead, check RCAT standing, and confirm any City of Katy or City of Houston registration or permit requirement that applies to your job.
What is the difference between RCAT Member and RCAT Licensed?
Membership in the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas simply means the company joined and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is a separate, earned qualification with experience and testing requirements. This listing reflects RCAT Member status, not the credential.
Who pulls the roofing permit in Katy and Harris County?
There is no statewide building code in Texas, so requirements are set locally. Depending on whether your address falls inside Katy city limits, Houston city limits or unincorporated Harris County, the permitting body differs. Always have the contractor pull the permit under their own name so the inspection record sits with them.
Does hail really hit the Houston area?
Yes, though less often than the North Texas hail belt. Harris County roofs more typically take damage from severe thunderstorm wind, hail on a handful of days a year, and long term heat and humidity ageing. Get an inspection after any storm that dents gutters, downspouts or air conditioning fins, because those are the easy tell tales.
Should I choose Class 4 impact resistant shingles here?
They are rated to survive a two inch steel ball drop and most Texas carriers offer a premium discount for them. Call your insurer first and get the discount in writing, then weigh it against the extra material cost over the expected life of the roof.
Can this company handle a commercial flat roof?
Yes. Its materials list covers TPO, PVC, EPDM, single ply, modified bitumen and built up roofing alongside standing seam and R panel metal, which is the standard range for warehouses, retail centres and offices in the Houston metro.
Which credentials can I check for myself?
GAF publishes its certified contractors at gaf.com and this company appears there as GAF Certified at the Katy Hockley Road address. BBB accreditation and the A+ rating are on bbb.org. The CertainTeed ShingleMaster claim appears only on the company's own website, so treat it as stated by the company until CertainTeed's directory confirms it.
How does the manufacturer warranty differ from the workmanship warranty?
The manufacturer warranty covers the shingles or membrane and is only enhanced (System Plus, Silver Pledge and similar) if a certified contractor installs and registers a qualifying system. The workmanship warranty covers the installer's labour and is backed only by the contractor's own solvency. Ask for both in writing and ask how many years each runs.
What should a Houston area roofing estimate actually contain?
The exact product line and colour, underlayment and ice or water barrier detail, decking replacement rate per sheet, flashing and pipe boot replacement, ventilation changes, debris removal and magnet sweep, permit responsibility, warranty tiers, and a payment schedule that is not full payment up front.
Can a roofer negotiate my insurance claim for me?
No. Texas law bars a roofing contractor from acting as a public adjuster on a property they are contracted to repair. A roofer can inspect, document damage and be present when the adjuster inspects, but the claim negotiation stays between you and your carrier or a separately licensed public adjuster.
