About

StormLight Exteriors is a Lewisville based roofing, gutter, and siding contractor working the northern Dallas Fort Worth suburbs. It is registered with the BBB under the legal name The StormLight Group, LLC, from an office at 424 E Main Street, Suite 202. The BBB record shows the company incorporated in July 2022 and opened for business in April 2023. The company describes both residential and commercial work, with leak diagnostics as a stated specialty, and says it works with all major insurance carriers on storm restoration after North Texas wind and hail events. It also states that it partners directly with property management companies to keep multifamily buildings maintained. BBB lists its service area as Denton, Collin, Dallas, Grayson, and Cooke counties. Its credentials are unusually well documented for a young company. RCAT lists it as a Licensed Roofing Contractor, which is RCAT's separately earned credential and is not the same as paying association dues. Owens Corning's own contractor directory carries a profile for The StormLight Group LLC as an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor. The BBB rates it A plus and has accredited it since October 2023. One caveat for readers: the company's website at stormlightroofing.com was a placeholder announcing a new build at the time of research, so almost everything here comes from BBB, RCAT, Owens Corning, and its review profiles rather than from its own pages.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0673 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Hands down - AWESOME SERVICE!! I called for emergency help the day that the Winter Storm was starting. I heard a dripping noise and assumed it was the roof. The kindest gentleman was at my home in less than 30 minutes. So professional, transparent, and knowledgeable. It was the roof! He found an area on the roof and fixed it for me at such a reasonable price. As he finished up, a heavy rain started. Please call them if you need quality and honest service!!

Mike came out to our house and immediately put us at ease by explaining exactly what was happening with our roof and drainage. What had always felt like a “phantom” problem suddenly made sense. He offered practical, thoughtful solutions, and the Stormlight Exteriors crew did an excellent job repairing our roof and fixing the drainage above our front door. After dealing with this issue for years, it’s such a relief to have it resolved — and at a very fair price. Highly recommend Mike and his team. Thanks again!

Mike from Stormlight Exteriors identified that the pitch of our roof was incorrect, which was allowing water to pool and get forced under the shingles, ultimately causing leaks inside our wall. He explained the issue clearly and laid out the corrective options. His team corrected the roof pitch and addressed the drainage issue, which had been undersized and unable to handle the volume of runoff from the roof. That bottleneck had been causing water to gush down the side of the house and damage our landscaping. The work was done professionally and efficiently, and a long-standing problem has finally been fixed at a fair price. I’d recommend Mike and Stormlight Exteriors without hesitation.

Mike and Phil are truly the best and most reliable people I’ve ever worked with. They are so quick to come out when you call, honest and professional, so friendly and relatable, and will work themselves to the bone to get your roof fixed before any extra damage has a chance to occur. Phil pushed himself to come out on an already overbooked day to seal our skylights and ensure we wouldn’t have any leaking with an upcoming storm the following day. This team is truly exceptional. 10/10 would recommend to everyone I know.

Frequently asked

Is StormLight Exteriors licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so nobody in Texas holds one. What this company does hold is RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, which is issued by the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, not by the state. Alongside that, check general liability and workers compensation insurance and any city registration Lewisville requires.
What is the difference between RCAT Member and RCAT Licensed?
A Member pays dues and belongs to the association. RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is earned separately through testing and documented experience, and it is the more meaningful of the two. StormLight Exteriors is listed by RCAT as a Licensed Roofing Contractor, not just a member.
Is the Owens Corning credential verified?
Yes. Owens Corning's own contractor directory carries a profile for The StormLight Group LLC, the company's legal name per BBB, as an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor. Preferred is Owens Corning's network tier that lets a contractor register certain extended system warranties.
Why does the website say StormLight Roofing when the business is StormLight Exteriors?
The domain and the Facebook handle both use StormLight Roofing, and the placeholder site header still reads that way. The current public brand across BBB, RCAT, Yelp, and the Facebook page name is StormLight Exteriors. Treat StormLight Roofing as the legacy domain and handle, and StormLight Exteriors as the brand.
How long has the company been in business?
BBB records show incorporation on 20 July 2022 and the business starting on 10 April 2023. That makes it a young company by roofing standards, which is worth weighing against its A plus BBB rating and its RCAT Licensed credential.
Do they do anything besides roofs?
Yes. The company describes itself as a roofing, gutter, and siding contractor, and BBB categorises it under roofing, metal roofing, tile roofing, siding, and gutters. If a hailstorm hit your siding and gutters along with the shingles, that can be handled under one contract.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Lewisville?
Almost certainly yes. Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection rules are set city by city. Lewisville and the surrounding Denton County cities each run their own permit process. Ask the contractor to pull the permit under the company's name and to leave the inspection record with you.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in Denton County?
Denton County sits squarely in the North Texas hail corridor, so a Class 4 rated shingle, which is the top rating in the UL 2218 impact test, is a reasonable upgrade. Many Texas insurers discount premiums for a Class 4 roof. Ask your own carrier what the discount is before you commit, because it is not uniform.
Does WPI-8 windstorm certification apply here?
No. WPI-8 is the Texas windstorm inspection certificate required in the 14 first tier Gulf Coast counties covered by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. Denton County is inland and is not one of them, so WPI-8 has nothing to do with a Lewisville roof.
What should I ask before signing?
Ask for the certificate of insurance direct from the insurance agent. Ask whether the crew is in house or subcontracted. Get the exact shingle line, underlayment, ventilation plan, and the manufacturer warranty being registered written into the contract. Ask who pulls the permit. And never sign anything that assigns your insurance claim to the contractor.
