About
Roofing is a genuine and central service line at Steward Construction Services despite the general sounding name. The company is listed by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce under Roofing Contractor, is carried in the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas directory, and its own site devotes a full section to roof repair, roof replacement, new construction roofing, gutters and downspouts and insurance claim work. The Better Business Bureau files it under General Contractor, Roofing Contractors, Home Builders and Remodel Contractors, which is an accurate picture: it is a Panhandle general contractor whose largest visible line is roofing and storm restoration, alongside residential and commercial construction and custom cabinetry.
The business operates from 7824 Cody Dr in southwest Amarillo, in Randall County, and is BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, accredited since 11 February 2015. Owner Wes Holcomb holds the RCAT CRRL credential with Commercial & Residential Roofing License #03-0331, which is the separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor designation rather than plain membership. RCAT lists the company as a member since 2017 and the Amarillo Chamber since 2018. The company also belongs to the Texas Panhandle Roofing Contractors Association. Manufacturer credentials are unusually well documented for a company this size: Owens Corning lists it in its own contractor directory as a Preferred Contractor, and GAF carries a residential contractor profile for it in Amarillo. The company additionally states CertainTeed Master Shingle Applicator status and TAMKO affiliation on its own pages.
The Texas Panhandle is a different roofing environment from the rest of the state. Amarillo sits above 3,600 feet on the High Plains, where severe hail is routine in spring and early summer, sustained wind and gusts regularly test fastening patterns and edge metal, and temperature swings of forty degrees or more in a single day cycle asphalt shingles hard. That combination is why the company's shingle range leans toward heavier and impact rated products, including the CertainTeed Presidential IR impact resistant line and Presidential Shake, Presidential Solaris and Grand Manor luxury shingles, plus GAF Timberline architectural shingles, Waldun wood shakes and single ply systems for flat commercial decks. Its storm restoration and insurance claim advocacy work reflects the same reality.

Insurance & credential verification
Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

City/county registration
Required in Amarillo Permit office ↗Roofing Contractor Registration. Registration is required here to pull a roofing permit; we have not confirmed this company's own status, so check it before you sign.
Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0331 or the company name.
Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Wes, Austin and the Steward family has helped me greatly over the past 2 hailstorms in less than 2 years. They have done an excellent job on roofing, gutters, trim, windows, siding and worked directly with my insurance company to assure all the damage is covered. I have referred them to many friends and family who have been very pleased at their work. Thanks Wes and Austin for a job well done.

Having a roof leak really isn't any fun..... and if you can't find that leak, it's even worse. Austin worked his tail off trying to find where the source was, to no avail..... Two other roofing companies checked it also.
Austin's personality sold us as he went above and beyond to find the leak. No hail damage, so the total cost was mine...
Was one day service to strip and re-roof. Clean-up was almost spotless. Found one paper nail in the yard. Excellent workmanship start to finish. Cost was affordable.
I will use them in the future if the need arises......

Frequently asked
Steward Construction Services does not sound like a roofer. Does it actually do roofing?
Yes. The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce lists it under Roofing Contractor, RCAT carries it as a residential and commercial roofing contractor, the BBB files it under Roofing Contractors among other categories, and its own site has a dedicated roofing section covering repair, replacement, new construction roofing, gutters and insurance claims. It is a general contractor whose largest visible line is roofing and storm restoration.
Is the company licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas has no state roofing license, so no roofer in Texas can claim one. What Steward holds is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas Licensed Roofing Contractor credential: owner Wesley Holcomb is listed with CRRL and Commercial & Residential Roofing License #03-0331. That is earned separately from ordinary RCAT membership.
Which manufacturer certifications can I verify myself?
Owens Corning lists the company in its own contractor directory as a Preferred Contractor, and GAF carries a residential contractor profile for the Amarillo location. Those two can be checked directly on the manufacturers' websites. CertainTeed Master Shingle Applicator status and TAMKO affiliation are stated by the company on its own pages and were not independently confirmed at a manufacturer directory.
How bad is hail in Amarillo, and does it change what I should put on my roof?
Severe hail is a routine spring and early summer event across the Texas Panhandle. UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistant shingles are the usual answer, and Steward offers the CertainTeed Presidential IR impact resistant line. Many Texas insurers give a premium discount for a Class 4 roof, so get the specific product name and ask your carrier to confirm the discount in writing before you sign.
What does Panhandle wind do to a roof, and how should a contractor respond?
Sustained High Plains wind and gusts attack a roof at its edges and fasteners first. Ask about the nailing pattern (six nails per shingle rather than four), starter strip at eaves and rakes, hip and ridge products rated for the same wind speed as the field shingles, and properly fastened drip edge and edge metal. A wind rating on the shingle wrapper means nothing if the perimeter details are skipped.
Why do Amarillo roofs age differently from roofs in East Texas?
Amarillo sits above 3,600 feet with big daily temperature swings, intense high altitude sun and low humidity. Asphalt shingles expand and contract hard through those cycles, which stresses seals and can shorten service life compared with a milder climate. Attic ventilation and a correctly installed underlayment matter more here than most homeowners expect.
Does the company handle insurance claims?
Yes. Its own pages describe storm restoration and insurance claim work, and the Amarillo Chamber lists the business as a storm restoration general contractor. A contractor can document damage, meet your adjuster and write the scope. A contractor cannot negotiate your claim on your behalf as a public adjuster unless separately licensed to do so, so keep those roles clear.
Is Steward BBB Accredited?
Yes. The BBB profile shows accreditation since 11 February 2015 with an A+ rating, and lists the business as incorporated on 28 August 2012 at 7824 Cody Dr, Amarillo.
Do I need a permit for a reroof in Amarillo?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is set locally. The City of Amarillo, Randall County and Potter County each handle contractor registration and roofing permits their own way, and an address just outside the city limits can follow different rules from one a mile away. Confirm who pulls the permit and check with the relevant office.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in the Panhandle?
Ask for the shingle manufacturer and product line by name, the wind and impact rating, the underlayment and ice and water shield locations, the nailing pattern, ventilation changes, decking replacement pricing, the workmanship warranty length and who honours it, and a certificate of insurance you can verify by calling the agent. Also ask what happens to the price if the insurer pays more or less than the estimate.
