Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0271 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I recently had a new roof after hail damage. This company fought my insurance denials to ensure that I received the money needed for replacement. Stefan was exceptional in his job since he had so much knowledge as a past appraiser. They were very professional and courteous. The installation was quick, and the end product was beautiful! Thank you so much!!!

We worked with Tyler at Morgan & Myers and he could not have been more helpful. From dealing with the insurance adjusters to providing and keeping the timeline they promised, they were top notch. We had several weather days that threatened the timeline, but they worked overtime when they needed to and met the deadline. The quality of the roof was excellent and a 10 year warranty was provided as well. I was very pleased.

Steffan Dandridge at Morgan & Myers was outstanding to work with. He handled all of the work associated with our property claim after a major hail storm last June, including the roof, fence, shed, garage door, and other damaged items. He made the entire process smooth and stress-free. Steffan was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and always friendly and easy to communicate with. He stayed on top of everything and kept us informed along the way. We would absolutely contact Steffan again in the future if we ever needed to and highly recommend him and Morgan & Myers.

Frequently asked

Does Texas license roofing contractors?
No. Texas has no state roofing license. Trust here comes from current general liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT status, manufacturer certifications, BBB history and any city registration your municipality requires.
Is Morgan & Myers an RCAT Member or RCAT Licensed?
This listing records the company as an RCAT Member, meaning it belongs to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. RCAT also awards a separate Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that requires an exam and continuing education. The company's RCAT directory entry does display a Commercial and Residential Roofing License number, so ask the company directly which credential it currently holds.
How long has the company been in business?
The BBB file lists a business start date of 10/31/2001 and incorporation on 2/1/2010, and the company's own About page says Trent Morgan took ownership in 2010. The RCAT record shows a company established date of October 2008. All three dates are published, which is why sources differ.
What does Owens Corning Preferred Contractor mean?
It is the mid tier of Owens Corning's contractor network. Preferred contractors meet Owens Corning's standards for insurance, applicable licensing and customer service, and can offer certain extended system warranties. Morgan & Myers appears at that level in Owens Corning's own directory. It is a manufacturer program, not a government license.
What is the biggest roof risk in Amarillo and the Panhandle?
Hail and high wind. The Panhandle sits at the northern end of the Texas hail corridor and regularly sees severe thunderstorm wind, so most replacements up here start with a storm event. Blowing dust and wide temperature swings also age shingles and sealant faster than a milder climate would.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in Randall County?
They usually are in hail prone Panhandle counties. Class 4 is the top rating in the UL 2218 impact test, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a qualifying roof. Confirm the discount with your own carrier, then have the exact product and rating written into the contract.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement in Amarillo?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is handled locally. The City of Amarillo generally requires a permit for roof replacement, and rules differ in Canyon, in unincorporated Randall and Potter counties, and in the smaller Panhandle towns. Confirm in writing who pulls the permit.
How should I approach a hail claim?
Document the damage with photos and dates, report it to your insurer promptly, and keep your own copy of the adjuster's scope. A contractor can document damage and meet the adjuster, but under Texas law a roofing contractor cannot act as your public adjuster or negotiate your claim. Walk away from anyone offering to absorb your deductible.
Can one contractor do the roof, siding, windows and gutters together?
Morgan & Myers lists all of those on its own site, including vinyl and steel siding, soffit and fascia, gutters, windows, patio doors and awnings. Bundling storm repairs with one contractor can simplify a claim, but ask for a line item scope so each trade is priced and warranted separately.
What should I ask before signing a contract?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly by the agent, a written scope naming the exact shingle or panel, underlayment, ventilation and flashing, the permit responsibility, the payment schedule, the length of the workmanship warranty, and what happens if rotten decking is found after tear off.
