About

South Texas Metal Roofing is a family owned metal roofing specialist based at 2217 Flour Bluff Drive in Corpus Christi, in the Flour Bluff area near the bay. The company was established on 4 March 2002 according to its BBB record, and RCAT lists the same 2002 establishment date. Owner Sigi Montemayor is described on the company's own About page as having been in the roofing industry for over 45 years, and the business describes itself as specialising in lifetime metal and aluminium standing seam systems. What separates this company from a general roofer is that it fabricates its own metal panels rather than ordering finished lengths, which lets it run panels to the exact run of a roof and control profile, colour and finish. The work covers residential, commercial and industrial buildings, and the BBB profile also lists flat roofing, sheet metal fabrication, gutter installation and asphalt roofing among its categories. The company operates from Corpus Christi with additional contact numbers for Rockport, McAllen, Laredo, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas, and describes its coverage as running from North Texas down to the Rio Grande Valley. On credentials, the company holds the CertainTeed Low-Slope Roofing Master credential, dated to 2023 and confirmed on CertainTeed's own contractor directory, and it is a Better Business Bureau Accredited Business with an A+ rating, accredited on 24 October 2025. The company's own site additionally displays marks for the Metal Roofing Alliance, Energy Star, Fortified, Mule Hide, Sheffield and NAHB; those are stated by the company and we have not confirmed them at each organisation's own directory. Corpus Christi sits in Nueces County, which is one of the 14 first tier coastal counties where windstorm construction rules apply, and homeowners should read the WPI-8 question below before commissioning any roof here.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

CompanySouth Texas Metal Roofing
Insurance Required by RCAT Licensed credential (liability and workers’ comp cover are conditions of this credential; ask for the current certificate)

City/county registration Required in Corpus Christi Check the registry ↗Contractor Registration Program (base registration, IB016) plus STAR Contractor Program (voluntary Bronze/Silver/Gold rating tiers). Registration is required here to pull a roofing permit; we have not confirmed this company's own status, so check it before you sign.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0664 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I am a real customer of South Texas Metal Roofing Inc. and this is a real review. For years I’ve wanted a steel standing seam roof on my house. My wife and I would see some homes with this type of roof in the hill country and sparsely here in Corpus Christi I’ve admired the way they look and the variety of colors they come in. Well, we finally decided to do it. I did my research and came across South Texas Metal Roofing Inc. I made a call for an appointment and within an hour I meet Edward from the company. We discussed every aspect of this project and he explained every detail including taking care of the permits and filing all the paperwork for wind storm of this venture. Once all the materials were in place , the roof went on. The attention to detail and professionalism the crew putting in my new metal roof was on point. They would clean up after themselves and leave no debris behind daily. At one point I stepped outside to see the progress of the roof installation, and was meet by Sigi, the CEO of the company. That right there speaks volumes for this company. He was out there making sure this roof was up to his standards. Also, if I had a question I’d call Edward and or Sigi. Every call was answered and every question answered within minutes. I can not thank South Texas Metal Roof Inc. for making our vision a reality. My house has a beautiful new South Texas Metal Roof Inc. with a lifetime warranty on it. I could not be happier. Again, Thank you Sigi , Edward , the office staff , and especially the crew on site for making my dream come true.

I am a General Contractor and have worked with South Texas Metal Roofing on many jobs. Edward is outstanding to work with. When I give him a client he reaches out to them, and takes it from there. He is really professional about handling the client. He meets with them, shows them pictures and explains the process in full. Their workmanship is outstanding. The crew shows up and finshes the job as scheduled and always keeps a clean worksite. I highly recommend them for all roof and gutter jobs.

South Texas Metal Roofing out of Flour Bluff has come through for our Church again! First they did a great job on sealing the seems on our roof and now they replaced all the gutters. Good material, coating color selection, and four days to complete the work! Anytime I have asked them to touch up anything they have came back in short time to make the work satisfactory. Frequently asked

Does this company advertise WPI-8 or windstorm certified work?
No. We read the company's home, About, services and contact pages and its BBB profile and found no mention of WPI-8, windstorm certification, TWIA or hurricane rated installation. That absence is not evidence the company cannot build to the windstorm standard, only that it does not advertise it. Because Corpus Christi is inside the first tier zone, we could not confirm this specific capability and homeowners should ask the company directly before commissioning work.
What is a WPI-8 and who actually issues it?
The WPI-8 is the Texas Department of Insurance certificate of compliance for windstorm construction. Crucially, the roofer never issues it. The roofer builds and documents the roof to the applicable windstorm standard and provides the evidence. The certificate itself is issued by TDI, either following a TDI inspection or on the submission of a WPI-2 from a licensed Texas professional engineer who has designed or inspected the work. Any contractor who says they will issue you a WPI-8 is describing something they cannot do.
Why does WPI-8 matter in Corpus Christi specifically?
Nueces County is one of the 14 first tier coastal counties served by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. In that zone TWIA will generally not write or renew wind and hail coverage on a structure altered after 1 January 1988 without the certificate of compliance on file for the work. In practice that means a roof replacement without a WPI-8 can leave you holding an uninsurable roof, and a later wind claim can be denied even where the damage is obvious.
What should I ask a Corpus Christi roofer before signing?
Ask whether the roof will be built to the TDI windstorm requirements and how the WPI-8 will be obtained, whether through TDI inspection or through a licensed Texas professional engineer issuing a WPI-2. Ask who pays the engineer, who schedules the inspections, and at what point in the job. Get the answer in the written contract. Also ask for current general liability and workers' compensation certificates sent directly by the insurer.
Is Corpus Christi contractor registration a thing?
Yes, the city runs its own permitting and contractor processes through its Development Services Department, and roofing work in the city requires a roofing permit. The city also operates a STAR Contractor Program, a searchable list of registered contractors by trade including roofing, which the city's own page describes as voluntary and says contractors are not required to participate. Absence from the STAR list therefore does not mean a contractor is unregistered. Confirm registration with Development Services directly.
Does Texas issue a state roofing licence?
No. There is no Texas state roofing licence and no state roofing regulator, so no roofer in Corpus Christi is licensed by the state to install a roof. Your real checks are insurance, city registration and permitting, the windstorm certification path, and voluntary credentials such as RCAT status, BBB accreditation and manufacturer certifications. Anyone advertising a Texas state roofing licence is describing something that does not exist.
What does RCAT Licensed mean here?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas runs two distinct things that are often confused. Plain membership means a company pays dues and appears in the directory. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (RRL, CRL or CRRL) is earned separately, sits with a named individual, and carries examination and continuing education requirements. South Texas Metal Roofing carries the RCAT licensed credential. It is an industry credential, not a government licence.
Is a metal roof a good choice on the Coastal Bend?
Metal performs well in a coastal wind environment when the system, the fastening and the edge details are right, and a properly detailed standing seam roof is one of the more robust options available in the first tier counties. The caveats are salt air, which pushes you toward the right coating and toward avoiding mixed metals at flashings and fasteners, and the fact that wind performance is a property of the whole assembly. A good panel installed with the wrong clip spacing or the wrong edge metal is still a weak roof.
Do I still need to worry about hail in Corpus Christi?
Hail is a smaller factor here than in North and Central Texas, where the classic hail alley sits, but it is not zero and coastal storms can bring it. The bigger local risks are sustained wind, wind driven rain finding its way through flashings and penetrations, and long term salt and ultraviolet exposure. Metal handles hail as denting rather than as structural failure in most cases, so it is worth asking how your policy treats cosmetic denting on a metal roof.
How do I check a Texas roofer's insurance before I hire?
Ask for a certificate of insurance covering general liability and workers' compensation, and ask that it be sent to you directly by the insurance agent or carrier rather than forwarded as a PDF by the contractor, because certificates are easy to alter. Confirm the policy is current on the day work starts and that the coverage limits are appropriate for the value of your property. Texas does not require roofers to carry either, which is exactly why you should check.
