About

Shepherd Roofing & Renovations is a roofing and remodelling contractor headquartered at 2626 Cole Ave, Suite 300B, in Dallas, in Dallas County. The company says it has served the DFW Metroplex since 2012 and lists seven locations: Dallas, Irving, McKinney, Plano, Preston Hollow, Southlake and Tyler. Its BBB profile has been accredited since March 2019 with an A+ rating and names David Espinoza as managing member. Roofing work covers replacement, repair, storm damage restoration, leak detection, skylights and commercial roofs, across asphalt shingle, metal, tile, slate and synthetic materials. The company leans on inspection technology, describing drone surveys with high resolution lenses to find damage in valleys and along ridges, plus thermal imaging and moisture meters to locate water that has already got inside. It offers a workmanship warranty on its work and notes hail and wind damage as the main reasons North Texas roofs need attention. The renovation side is genuinely separate rather than an add on: siding, gutters and exterior work, plus interior remodelling covering bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, painting and ceiling and wall repair, along with multi-family property services. On credentials, the company displays BBB, RCAT, NRCA and NTRCA badges on its own site, and Owens Corning's own contractor directory carries a profile describing the legal entity Shepherd Renovations LLC as an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0581 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Highly recommend! David and his team walked us through every step, making sure we fully understood the insurance process and what to expect. They paid great attention to detail and made the whole experience smooth. Our roof, gutters, and garage door look even better than before. If you currently have a contractor in mind, I would still recommend calling David for a second opinion. He is the best out there!

Shepard Roofing and Renovations performed a complete roof replacement after a hailstorm and high winds damaged our home. David Espinoza and his team have been very good to do business with. Shepard Roofing and Renovations also did some siding replacement, new rain gutters and painting services for our historic home. Our experience with this company and David has been a positive one. They also took care of a number of small repairs that weren't in the scope of our contract. We highly recommend Shepard Roofing and Renovations to anyone in need of roofing and home renovation services. Give David a call, you'll be happy that you did.

Shepherd did great work! They replaced 6 commercial doors for our Grand Prairie Campus. From the beginning they were very communicative and very accommodating. Since we are limited with campus availability (operating hours and weather closures) they worked around our schedule to get things done in a timely manner. Although we had a similar quote for the work, their commitment to the “customer experience” was what made us comfortable in choosing them over others. David was descriptive regarding the scope of work and presented various options, materials, and hardware so that we were familiar with functionality and performance beforehand. He walked through the labor and demo process for each door so we were aware of potential impacts to operation. We definitely felt a part of the process and at no point felt oblivious to what we were installing. We truly value their dedication in providing great customer service and the quality of work.

While looking for a licensed quality roofing company with integrity we came across Shepherd Roofing and Renovations. Our initial contact was with Jesse, an expert in customer care. He listened to our concerns and spent a long time in the attic taking pictures of the bracing and decking, plus he went on the roof to see what repairs were needed. Shepherds’ communication with us was excellent. Their office was in constant contact with us informing us of every step in the process. It was obvious they were experts in their field. The quote was highly detailed and if we had a question Shepherd addressed it in a timely manner. They even sent us their state license and insurance certificate that we requested. Shepherds foreman Josh, made sure everything on our checklist was completed to our satisfaction. Josh was so easy to talk to, well mannered and again great at listening to our concerns. It was truly a joy working with this company! We highly recommend Shepherd Roofing and their people to everyone looking for a company that delivers quality work and a professional honest work ethic. This group was excellent to work with. They are the only ones I could get to respond and come out for an emergency call on a weekend. This lead to me choosing their work to replace my hail damaged roof and have the house painted. Jesse was always responsive, provided excellent advice for what we did and didn't need. Their prices were very competitive. I highly recommend Shepherd Roofing and Renovations.

Frequently asked

Does Texas issue a state roofing licence?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence and no state roofing board. There is no government body that licenses roofers statewide, so due diligence means checking insurance, checking local registration where it applies, and checking association and manufacturer credentials.
What does RCAT membership actually mean?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, a trade association. Plain membership means the company pays dues and belongs. RCAT also awards a separate Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that must be earned through testing and continuing education. Membership and that credential are not the same, so ask which one a company holds.
What is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor?
It is a tier in Owens Corning's roofing contractor network. Contractors have to meet the manufacturer's requirements on credentials and insurance to be listed, and network status is what unlocks enhanced Owens Corning system warranties. Owens Corning's own directory carries a profile for the legal entity behind this business, Shepherd Renovations LLC, described as an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor. Preferred is a step below Platinum Preferred, the top tier.
Are the company's other certification claims verified?
Its own website displays BBB, RCAT, NRCA and NTRCA badges, and BBB accreditation and Owens Corning Preferred status were confirmed at source. Additional credentials that appear in third party listings, including James Hardie Contractor Alliance, EPA Lead-Safe certified firm, Attic Breeze certified installer and Mule-Hide TPO certified installer, are stated by the company and were not confirmed at each issuer's own directory. Ask for current certificates for anything that matters to your job.
Should I get Class 4 impact-resistant shingles in Dallas?
Dallas sits in the North Texas hail corridor, where hail rather than age is what usually ends a roof's life. Class 4 is the top impact rating under UL 2218, and most Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Ask your carrier what the discount is worth over the life of the roof, then compare that against the price difference, and get the product's rating documented on the contract.
Does WPI-8 windstorm certification apply in Dallas County?
No. WPI-8 certificates are issued for structures in the 14 first-tier Texas coastal counties covered by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. Dallas County is inland and is not one of them, so WPI-8 has no application to roofing here.
How does a hail insurance claim work in North Texas?
Report the damage to your carrier, get an independent inspection so you know what is actually damaged, meet the carrier's adjuster on site, then compare the adjuster's scope with the contractor's scope line by line. Texas law prohibits a contractor from waiving, paying or absorbing your deductible, so treat any such offer as a warning sign.
Is a drone inspection better than someone walking the roof?
It is a different tool, not automatically a better one. Drone imagery is safer, faster and useful on steep or fragile roofs, and it documents condition with dated photos. It does not replace hands on checks of flashing, sealant and decking soundness, and it cannot feel a soft deck underfoot. Ask for both the imagery and a written condition report.
Who handles roofing permits across the DFW cities?
Texas has no statewide residential building code enforcement, so permitting is city by city. Dallas, Irving, McKinney, Plano and Southlake each run their own permitting and inspection rules, and Tyler is different again. Since this company works across all of those, confirm in writing which city has jurisdiction on your job, who pulls the permit and who schedules the final inspection.
What should I verify before signing?
Ask for certificates of general liability and workers compensation insurance sent directly by the insurance agent. Get the full scope in writing, including tear off, decking replacement pricing, underlayment, flashing and ventilation. Get both the manufacturer warranty and the separate workmanship warranty in writing with their lengths. Confirm which legal entity you are contracting with, since this business trades as Shepherd Roofing & Renovations but the registered entity is Shepherd Renovations LLC.
