About

Michael Young Roofing & Construction is a family owned roofing and exterior contractor based on Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway in Dallas, working across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The BBB lists the business as started in July 2010 and incorporated in February 2012, and the company says owner Michael Young has personally worked in roofing since 1984. Alongside residential and commercial roofing the company handles gutters, siding, windows, fencing, painting and interior and exterior remodeling, so storm repairs can be bundled into one job. The company appears in GAF's own contractor directory as a factory certified roofer. On its own website it further describes itself as a GAF Master Elite contractor, a GAF President's Club winner for 2020 and a GAF Certified Green Roofer. Those tier claims are stated by the company, and GAF's public profile page could not be read directly to confirm the tier, so homeowners should ask to see the current certificate. The company also states membership in RCAT, the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association and the U.S. Green Building Council. Michael Young Roofing & Construction has been a BBB Accredited Business since July 2012 and carries an A+ BBB rating. Its RCAT status is Licensed Roofing Contractor, which is the separately earned credential rather than plain association membership. Dallas sits in the North Texas hail belt, and the company markets roof inspections and insurance claim work as a core part of what it does.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0380 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Michael Young Roofing has replaced my roof after 4-5 hail storms now. Michael Young Roofing has always done a great quality job for me. Michael is a very honest businessman with great integrity and I am assured that he will do all he can and more to ensure all issues/damages are taken care of correctly. I have since referred many friends to Michael Young Roofing and they have been as pleased as I have been. No need to shop around, Michael Young Roofing is the best.

Best of the best! Mr. Michael Young and his crew has done several projects for us over the years (roof, gutters, repairs, exterior paint etc) and every single time goes above and beyond to ensure we are happy with every step of the process! Pricing is fair and transparent, crew is respectful, clean and very hard working and Mr. Young is incredibly kind with the highest integrity. Professionally, I come from a luxury hotel background and have an extreme eye for detail and choose no one else to do work around our house!

Michael Young is a real professional and even better, a great person. His team replaced our leaking roof and was very efficient with time, completing the job ahead of schedule. He will be our first call the next time we require any home renovation services. Thank you Michael!!🙏🏼

Michael is amazing. He is professional, kind and organized. Everything was done with great attention to detail, yet in a time efficient manner. We could not recommend his company enough. As someone who has had bad experiences with contractors, I would never call anyone else. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Michael Young and Company did an outstanding job replacing my son’s roof a Cpl of years ago. Fast forward to yesterday. My son’s home, unfortunately, sustained an incident where a tree fell over and punctured the roof and turbine. I called him and he IMMEDIATELY agreed to go over to my son’s home to repair the damage. Michael treats his customers like family- he really does care. When considering a roof project the lowest bid is not always the best. Michael will be honest, perform a quality job, and you will join his “family”. Quality work and quality people- more importantly.

Frequently asked

Is Michael Young Roofing & Construction licensed by the State of Texas?
No, and neither is any other roofer. Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so there is no government roofing licence to check. What you can verify instead is general liability and workers' compensation insurance, RCAT status, BBB accreditation and any manufacturer certification. This company is a BBB Accredited Business and holds RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor status.
What does RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor actually mean here?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas runs two separate things. Plain membership just means a company pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and insurance requirements. Michael Young Roofing & Construction holds the earned Licensed credential, not just membership. It is an industry credential, not a state licence.
What certifications should I ask to see before signing?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurer, not a photocopy. Ask for proof of the GAF certification tier in writing, since the Master Elite and President's Club claims here come from the company's own marketing. Ask for the RCAT credential number. Any reputable contractor will hand these over without argument.
Does the company handle hail damage insurance claims?
Yes. The company markets roof inspections and insurance work as core services, which matters in Dallas because North Texas sits in the hail belt. Remember that Texas law bars a roofer from acting as your public insurance adjuster on the same job they are contracted to perform, so a contractor can document damage and meet your adjuster but cannot negotiate the claim for you.
Are impact resistant Class 4 shingles worth it in Dallas?
Often yes. Dallas County takes repeated damaging hail, and Class 4 shingles are rated to survive a two inch steel ball drop without cracking. Most Texas carriers offer a premium discount for a verified Class 4 roof, so the extra material cost can pay back over several years. Ask your insurer what discount applies before you choose the shingle.
Who handles the permit for a Dallas roof replacement?
Texas has no statewide building code for this, so permitting is set city by city. The City of Dallas requires a permit for roof replacement, and your contractor normally pulls it. Get it in writing that the permit is included in the contract price, and check that the final inspection is passed before you release final payment.
Do I need WPI-8 windstorm certification for a roof in Dallas?
No. WPI-8 certificates from the Texas Department of Insurance apply to the 14 first tier Gulf Coast counties covered by TWIA. Dallas County is inland and well outside that zone, so no WPI-8 inspection or certificate is required. Hail resistance and proper deck attachment matter far more here than coastal wind certification.
How old is the business?
The BBB records the business as started on 28 July 2010 and incorporated on 3 February 2012. The company's own site refers to a 35 year record and says owner Michael Young has been in roofing since 1984, which describes his personal experience rather than the age of this corporate entity. Both figures come from real sources and are simply measuring different things.
What besides roofing does the company do?
Its site and BBB listing show gutters, siding, windows, fencing, painting, carpentry, roof decking and general exterior and interior remodeling, plus commercial roofing. After a hail storm that is useful, because siding, gutters, windows and screens are frequently damaged in the same event and can go on one claim and one schedule.
What are the office hours and how do I reach them?
The company's contact page lists Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with weekend appointments available. The listed phone number is (469) 274-4900 and the office is at 2727 Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway in Dallas. Suite numbers differ slightly between the company's own pages and the BBB record, so confirm the suite before visiting.
