About

ProTex Roofing & Siding is a Corpus Christi roofing contractor working out of 3429 Samoa Dr in the Flour Bluff area. The parent business started in 2005 as Protex Seamless Gutters and built a name in seamless gutters across the Coastal Bend before launching the roofing division in 2023. The ownership group is made up of working professional Texas firefighters, and the company names Landon Sherman, Billy Belyeu and Jorge Rivera among its owners. The company handles residential and commercial roofing, roof inspections, repairs, full replacement and storm restoration, and it assists homeowners through the insurance claim process. Inspections are flown with drones by licensed FAA drone pilots. Its shingle gallery is built around Owens Corning product lines (Supreme, Oakridge and TruDefinition Duration), and the site also lists metal, tile and low slope roofing. ProTex is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor and has been BBB accredited with an A+ rating since May 2023. Its published service area covers five Texas counties: Nueces, Aransas, Kleberg, Jim Wells and Bee. Corpus Christi sits in Nueces County, one of the 14 first tier coastal counties in the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association territory, so windstorm construction standards and WPI-8 certification are part of most re-roofs there. ProTex does not advertise WPI-8 or windstorm certification work anywhere on its current website, so we could not confirm that capability and homeowners should ask about it directly.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Protex Roofing did an excellent job! They worked non stop in one of the hottest days of the year. The crew was very respectful and cleaned up yard better than they found it. Owners are excellent and very easy to work with. Thank you Protex Roofing!

We were referred by a friend of ours after a storm damaged our roof causing a leak. Landon came out the same day and did his measurements. The next day he came by with all the information and explained everything in great detail. He was very professional and patient as this is our first ever roof replacement. He provided us with a couple of quotes and we made our decision that evening. He kept in constant communication with us and even covered the leaky section of the roof prior to more storms that were forecast to hit our area. He offered to do it for us as a courtesy which was totally unexpected. The work started and we could not be more happy with the results. Would we use Protex Roofing again? Absolutely!! My wife and I would strongly recommend them to anyone that needs roofing work done. Thank you for everything you’ve done.

We recently had a problem with our roof leaking. Landon came out promptly for the estimate. He was so polite, professional and an excellent communicator throughout the project, keeping me up to date with texts. The project was completed in the estimated time and the roofers and the stucco professional were great! Landon came out the day after the job was completed to make sure everything was fine and the job was done right. We HIGHLY recommend Protex for roof repairs!

Landon, Bridget, and their crew did an awesome job on my mod bit roof! They installed all the decking as well as replaced some fascia that was rotted. I am very pleased with their work, attention to detail, and professionalism. Bridget was at the site with eyes on for most of the day which I really was really impressed by, overlooking things and keeping the area cleaned up. They finished the entire roof in one day too! Lastly Protex gave me the best pricing out of 4 quotes. Hands down recommending Protex and I will be using them again for future roof repairs.

Enjoyed working with Protex Roofing. Landon and Bridgette were very polite and communicated well and in a timely manner. Very responsive to any questions or concerns. The crew was courteous and did a great job of cleaning up during the day and again at the end of the day. Will use them for future roofing needs and would recommend to anyone else in need of roof replacement. Roy Hughes

Frequently asked

Is ProTex Roofing & Siding licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so no roofing company in Texas can hold one. What matters instead is proof of current general liability and workers compensation insurance, whatever city or county registration your project requires, and voluntary credentials. ProTex holds Owens Corning Preferred Contractor status, is BBB accredited, and our record lists it as an RCAT Member.
What is WPI-8, and does it apply in Corpus Christi?
It applies here. Corpus Christi is in Nueces County, one of the 14 first tier coastal counties in the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association territory. A WPI-8 is the windstorm certificate of compliance showing that new or altered roof work met the required windstorm construction standard. The roofer builds the roof to that standard and documents it, but the certificate itself is issued by the Texas Department of Insurance or by a licensed Texas professional engineer, never by the roofing company.
Does ProTex advertise WPI-8 or windstorm certified work?
We could not confirm it. Its current website does not mention WPI-8, windstorm certification or TWIA anywhere, so we are not going to claim the capability on its behalf. If you need a certificate, ask before you sign: get written confirmation that the crew will build to the windstorm standard, that the required inspections will be scheduled while the work is open, and who is responsible for filing the WPI-8 paperwork with TDI or the engineer.
Why does a WPI-8 certificate matter for my insurance?
In the first tier coastal counties, TWIA windstorm and hail coverage generally cannot be written or renewed on new or altered roof work without a current WPI-8 on file. Handling the inspections while the roof is open and accessible is far cheaper and simpler than trying to document compliance after the shingles are on.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
They are two separate things and they are not interchangeable. Membership means the company pays dues to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (RRL, CRL or CRRL) is earned separately through experience and testing requirements. Our record lists ProTex as an RCAT Member.
How do I verify a Corpus Christi roofer's insurance?
Ask for a certificate of insurance emailed to you directly by the insurance agent rather than a PDF forwarded by the salesperson. Confirm general liability is current for the dates of your job, and confirm workers compensation covers the crew that will actually be on your roof. Texas does not require roofers to carry workers compensation, so treat it as something to check rather than assume.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Corpus Christi?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection rules are set city by city and county by county. Corpus Christi does require permits for roof work, and coastal windstorm inspections happen in stages during the job. Make sure the contractor pulls the permit in its own name and schedules the inspections at the right points rather than after the roof is finished.
What roofing materials does ProTex install?
Its site lists shingle, metal, tile and low slope systems. The shingle gallery is organized around Owens Corning lines, including Supreme, Oakridge and TruDefinition Duration, which lines up with its Owens Corning Preferred Contractor status.
Are impact resistant shingles worth it on the Texas coast?
Class 4 impact resistant shingles are tested against hail, and many Texas carriers offer a premium discount for them. On the coast the bigger performance question is wind uplift, so ask about nailing pattern, starter strip, ridge treatment and how the decking is fastened, not just the impact rating. Confirm the discount with your own carrier before paying extra for the upgrade.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract after a coastal storm?
Get the full scope in writing with the manufacturer and product line named, both the workmanship warranty and the manufacturer warranty spelled out, who pulls the permit and schedules inspections, and how insurance proceeds and your deductible will be handled. In Texas it is illegal for a contractor to pay, waive, absorb or rebate your insurance deductible. Anyone offering to do it is telling you something useful about how they operate.
