About

D&K Contracting is a Dallas based roofing and general contracting firm operating at 10029 Cayuga Drive in East Dallas, with a second North Texas location at 10921 Fieldstone Street in Denton. The Better Business Bureau records the business start date as February 2007 and names David Meyers as owner and Ted Johnson as vice president. The company markets itself as a one stop shop covering both roofing and broader general contracting, and says it has served North Texas for more than twenty years. The work described on its site spans residential re-roofing and custom home construction through to commercial and industrial roofing. The materials list is unusually broad for a company of this size and includes architectural and designer shingles, impact resistant shingles, natural and synthetic slate, standing seam metal panels, concrete tile, cedar, lead coated copper, and on the low slope side single ply and multi ply systems, modified bitumen, built up assemblies and TPO. The company also handles insurance claim work and offers financing. Texas does not issue a state roofing license. D&K Contracting appears in the RCAT directory holding RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential for commercial and residential work, carried by Theodore Johnson with the CRRL designation, with membership dating to October 2008. That is a step beyond plain association membership. The company holds an A+ rating with the BBB but is not BBB Accredited. No GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed contractor certification was found for it in those manufacturers' own directories, and the company does not claim one.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0713 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I was recently recommended to D&K Roofing when it was discovered my roof was in need of replacement due to recent hail storm. I can see why and I would give them 10 stars if I could. Steven Van Meter met with my claims adjuster and took care of all the details from day 1 until the work was completed. Steven explained everything and answered all my questions. Steven recommended and coordinated the fencing company that replaced my fence. I couldn't be more pleased with both companies and would recommend them to all my friends and neighbors. You will be happy you did. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Steven.

I recently had my roof and gutters replaced by D & K Contracting. Steven Van Meter came to my door and said he noticed damage on my roof and gutters. I was apprehensive about letting him look because I was burned before. He met with my claims adjuster and they both agreed on the terms to replace the roof, gutters and fix the chimney. The process and end result was excellent. Steven was always on site making sure everything went smoothly and answered any questions I had. Kudos to D & K Contracting and Steven Van Meter.

D&K was excellent to work with! We were nervous replacing our roof since we just got solar panels less than a year ago! They were able to bring in a master electrician to work with my solar company and safely take down and reinstall everything! What really made the whole experience great for me was Steven Van Meter. He was the lead on the project and his level of communication was perfect. He also kept me informed as to what was happening and when. From the solar panels, to the roof, to gutters, the garage doors, and everything in between. He kept things on track and made sure I knew what was going on. By the way, the roof looks beautiful and the solar panels are working as before. Thank you!

I met Steven Van Meter cold. Based on the rapport we built, I decided to take the next step—and then the next—ultimately following the process all the way through. We ended up pushing my insurance claim as far as it would go: adjuster, impasse, appraisal, and even the threat of an umpire. Steven and his team helped me get comfortable and walked me through the entire process. I now have a new roof, new gutters, and fresh stain. This is not a straightforward process, and you need good people guiding you. I recommend Steven.

After my new roof was installed I had a glitch with my solitaire (never use them) sky light. Mitch and his son were very prompt in resolving the matter. This is a most reliable, honest, and trustworthy company! I will use them again for any roofing project!!

Frequently asked

Is D&K Contracting licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas issues no state roofing license and has no state roofing board, so no Texas roofer holds one. D&K Contracting does appear in the RCAT directory holding RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential for commercial and residential work, carried by Theodore Johnson with the CRRL designation. That is an industry credential earned through testing and continuing education, not a government license. Verify insurance separately.
What is the difference between RCAT membership and the RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential?
Membership is dues based. The Licensed Roofing Contractor program is earned by an individual through RCAT testing and ongoing continuing education, and comes as RRL for residential, CRL for commercial, or CRRL for both. D&K's RCAT record shows the CRRL credential. Do not read either as a state license, because Texas does not have one.
Is D&K Contracting BBB Accredited?
No. The BBB business profile for D&K Contracting at 10029 Cayuga Dr, Dallas shows an A+ rating but states the business is not BBB Accredited. Accreditation is a paid program a business opts into; the letter rating is BBB's own assessment and is calculated whether or not a business is accredited. The two are separate and should not be conflated.
Does D&K Contracting have a website?
Yes. The company operates dkcontracting.pro, which lists both North Texas locations, the principals' direct numbers and the services and roofing systems it works with. The site is a single page layout with anchor sections rather than separate pages. The company also has a BBB profile, a Yelp listing and a BuildZoom contractor page.
How do I verify a Dallas roofer's insurance?
Ask for a certificate of insurance issued directly by the insurance agency rather than one forwarded by the salesperson. It should show general liability with the limits, and workers' compensation if the company has employees. Texas does not require most private employers to carry workers' compensation, so ask the question outright. Check the policy dates against your project window.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Dallas?
Texas has no statewide residential building code enforcement, so permitting is set city by city. The City of Dallas runs its own permitting and inspection process through its development services department, and the surrounding suburbs and Park Cities municipalities each set their own rules. Put it in the contract who pulls the permit, who pays the fee and who meets the inspector.
Why does Dallas hail matter so much when choosing a roof?
Dallas County sits in the heart of the North Texas hail belt and takes damaging hail most spring seasons. Class 4 is the top result in the UL 2218 impact test, and D&K lists impact resistant shingles among the products it installs. Most major Texas carriers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof, so get the specific credit figure from your insurer before committing to the upgrade.
Does WPI-8 or TWIA windstorm certification apply in Dallas County?
No. WPI-8 is a Texas Department of Insurance windstorm inspection certificate tied to TWIA coverage in the fourteen first tier Gulf Coast counties plus part of Harris County. Dallas County is far inland and none of that applies. Hail and straight line wind are your exposures.
How should I handle a contractor who talks about insurance supplements?
Supplementing is a normal part of Texas claim work, where a contractor documents items the adjuster's first estimate missed and requests a revised scope. It is legitimate, but it should never turn into inflated or fabricated scope. Insist on a written contract price that stands on its own, ask to see everything submitted to your carrier, and remember that Texas law requires you to pay your own deductible and makes it a criminal offense for a contractor to waive or absorb it.
What should I ask before signing with any Dallas roofing contractor?
Get the exact legal entity name and physical address, a certificate of insurance from the agency, a written scope naming the specific shingle or roof system and underlayment, a firm total price rather than a placeholder tied to insurance proceeds, the workmanship warranty term and whether it transfers, permit responsibility and the payment schedule. Also ask whether the crew is in house or subcontracted, and who your point of contact is once work starts.
