Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

CompanyFat Matt Roofing
Insurance Required by RCAT Licensed credential (liability and workers’ comp cover are conditions of this credential; ask for the current certificate)
RCAT status Licensed Roofing Contractor Verify ↗credential held by Matt Smith CRRL
City/county registration Required in Lubbock Permit office ↗Contractor Registration (City Code Article 28.04). Registration is required here to pull a roofing permit; we have not confirmed this company's own status, so check it before you sign.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0355 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I wanted to leave a review and a special thank you to Nathan Whitt (Lubbock) with Fat Matt Roofing. This was a first for us, filing an insurance claim to have our roof replaced from the Abilene hail storm in March, 2026. Nathan was amazing at walking us through all the tedious steps. He made this process as easy as possible on us. This was our first time using Fat Matt and we are very pleased. I'm so glad when I made that call, Nathan was in the area from Lubbock. Thanks again for your help Nathan! Happy Customers

A BIG Thank You to Fat Matt Roofing for our new roof. Fat Matt is by far the best experience we have had in a roofing company. Rudy Martinez was a pleasure to work with. He kept in contact with us thoughout the roofing process. We have a new best friend! The roofing crew was efficient and thorough. We definitely recommend Fat Matt Roofing for professional service.

When my roof started leaking Fat Matt Roofing was the first company I called. Cory came out and helped identify where our leak was, and made getting everything fixed very easy. I could not have asked for more professional and punctual service. Would definitely recommend!

Our roof sustained damage after some huge hail a few years ago. We decided to go with Fat Matt after visiting with Corey. They did excellent work. We noticed a small leak in our bedroom sometime later. Corey sent someone over the same day to check things out. They checked the shingles in that area and tried some sealant. After recent heavy rains the leak returned. Corey then had the entire area re-shingled. Still leaked, and I suspected it was coming from around the chimney. I asked Corey for a suggestion on who might do that kind of work. Not only did he do that, he came out and figured out exactly where the water was coming in! (Damaged collar on top of the chimney) Even though the leak had nothing to do with anything Fat Matt had done, Corey then temporarily sealed it so that it wouldn't leak until we could get it repaired properly simply as a service to us. I would give Fat Matt Roofing and Corey 6 stars if I could, and HIGHLY recommend them for your roofing needs!!!

Frequently asked

Is the Lubbock office a real local office or just a mailing address?
It is a staffed branch at 507 82nd St. with its own local phone, its own Google Business Profile, a Lubbock Facebook page, and its own BBB profile. The company is headquartered in Abilene.
Is Fat Matt Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
No roofer is. Texas has no state roofing license. This Lubbock registration holds the RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, and homeowners should also verify current insurance.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
A Member simply belongs to the association. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is separately earned through testing and vetting. This Lubbock record carries the Licensed credential.
Does Fat Matt Roofing handle hail damage claims in Lubbock?
Yes. Hail damage repair is a core advertised service, and the office works storm damage across Lubbock and the surrounding South Plains.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in Lubbock?
Often yes. Class 4 shingles stand up better to South Plains hail, and many Texas insurers discount premiums for them. Ask for pricing both ways.
Do I need a permit to reroof my house in Lubbock?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting is city by city. Check current requirements with the City of Lubbock before work begins.
How long has Fat Matt Roofing been in Lubbock?
The company says it has served Lubbock since 2016. The parent company was founded in Abilene in 2014.
What manufacturer credentials does the company hold?
It is a GAF Master Elite contractor, verified on GAF's contractor directory, which allows enhanced GAF warranties. Its website also states CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster status.
What should I verify before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance, a written scope and price, local references, and a physical local address. Never pay in full up front after a storm.
Where can I read reviews of the Lubbock office?
The Lubbock location has its own Google Business Profile, a Yelp page, a Houzz profile, a Birdeye listing, and its own A+ rated BBB profile.
