About

Authentic Roofing is a Plano based roofing contractor working residential and commercial properties across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Better Business Bureau records give a business start date of 8 June 2020 and name Samuel Hernandez as managing member and Sean Roberts as managing partner. RCAT lists the company under Samuel Hernandez as a contractor member since 2022. The work the company describes on its own site is roof installation, repair, maintenance and replacement, plus gutters and a dedicated roofing claims service that walks homeowners through filing and negotiating a storm damage claim. BBB additionally lists fence contracting and storm damage repair under the business. Texas has no state roofing licence, so the checkable signals here are the third party ones. Authentic Roofing has been a BBB Accredited Business since February 2022 and carries an A+ rating. On the RCAT side it is a Member, which means dues paying, and it does not appear in RCAT's separate Licensed Roofing Contractor results, so the two should not be confused.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Sam with Authentic Roofing did such an amazing job replacing my roof. First, he guided me through the Insurance claim process and was able to successfully get State Farm to pay for the entire roof replacement after multiple denials, plus paying penalty for delaying the claim. The process took almost 9 months. Then his team did a great job, replacing the roof, the gutter, painting the fence , all was done in a timely manner. In fact, I recommended him to my neighbor and also they did an excellent job. Sam is an easy person to work with, and I highly recommend him.

I had an excellent experience working with Sam from start to finish. His company did a thorough job replacing our entire roof, installing new gutters, painting our fence, and handling both exterior and interior painting. The quality of work was outstanding, and everything was completed with great attention to detail, our home looks new and beautiful. Sam managed the entire insurance claims process for us and guided us every step of the way. He helped file multiple supplemental claims and made what could have been a stressful situation feel smooth and manageable. His communication was clear, and he always kept us informed. What really stood out was Sam’s honesty and transparency. He is upfront, easy to work with, and truly goes to bat for his clients. You can tell he genuinely cares about doing the right thing and making sure his customers are taken care of. I highly recommend Sam and Authentic Roofing if you’re looking for a company that delivers quality work and stands behind their service. THANK YOU SAM!!!

We had to have our roof and gutters replaced after a hail storm. Sam was very helpful with any questions we had, and help us tremendously to handle the claim with our insurance, as this was our very first claim as home owners. Sam took care of everything, we were able to choose a top quality roof, a different gutter colors as well, the final product looks solid and beautiful, and we feel safe in our home. We highly recommend Sam and his team.

Frequently asked

Does Texas require a state licence to roof a house?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence and no state roofing regulator. That puts the burden on the homeowner, so check a current certificate of insurance, confirm a real local address, look at voluntary credentials such as RCAT or BBB accreditation, and ask your city whether roofers must register locally.
Authentic Roofing is listed as an RCAT Member. What does that mean?
It means the company pays dues to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and appears in its contractor directory. It is a different and lesser thing than RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, which is earned through an exam and continuing education and shows up as a CRRL, RRL or CRL designation with a licence number. Authentic Roofing is a Member and does not appear in RCAT's Licensed Contractor results.
Is RCAT membership a government approval?
No. RCAT is a private trade association. Membership shows a contractor chose to join and be listed publicly, which is worth something, but no state body vets or enforces it. Weigh it alongside insurance, BBB record, references and written warranties.
How do I confirm the company is insured?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance showing general liability and workers compensation, and ask the insurance agent to email it to you directly rather than accepting a forwarded copy. Check the policy dates cover your project and that the named insured matches the legal entity on your contract, which here is Authentic Roofing LLC.
Plano sits in Hail Alley. Should I pay extra for Class 4 shingles?
Collin County takes repeated damaging hail, and hail is the usual reason roofs get replaced in Plano. UL 2218 Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are tested to survive impacts that split standard shingles, and most Texas insurers offer a premium credit for them. Ask your carrier for the exact discount in writing before you commit, since that number decides whether the upgrade pays for itself.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Plano?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement for reroofing, so permit and inspection rules are set locally. Contact the City of Plano building inspections department before work starts, and write into the contract that the roofer pulls any required permit and books any required inspection.
Does WPI-8 windstorm certification apply in Collin County?
No. WPI-8 is a Texas Department of Insurance windstorm certificate for structures in the 14 first tier Gulf Coast counties and parts of Harris County, tied to TWIA coverage. Plano is far inland, so WPI-8 has no bearing on a roof here. Your relevant exposure is hail and straight line wind under a standard homeowners policy.
How does the insurance claim process work on a Texas storm roof?
You report the loss, the carrier sends an adjuster, and payment usually comes in two parts: actual cash value up front, then recoverable depreciation once the work is finished and invoiced. Texas law prohibits a roofing contractor from paying, rebating or waiving your deductible, so any offer to cover it is a red flag.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract?
Ask for the certificate of insurance from the agent, the exact legal entity and physical address on the contract, the manufacturer and shingle line being installed, the manufacturer warranty and the separate workmanship warranty with its length, who pulls the permit, the payment schedule, and whether crews are employees or subcontractors. Never sign a contingency agreement you have not read in full.
How long has Authentic Roofing been in business?
Better Business Bureau records show the business started on 8 June 2020 and it has been a BBB Accredited Business since 14 February 2022, currently rated A+. RCAT lists it as a contractor member since 2022.
