About

Texas Star Roofing is a family owned roofing company at 1000 18th Place, Plano, TX 75074, in Collin County, on (972) 509-7570. It has been trading since 1997, a founding year that its own site, the BBB profile and the RCAT record all agree on, and the BBB records it as accredited since August 2000 with an A+ rating. Lee Williamson Sr. is president, with Jay Williamson as vice president, Aaron Mizar as vice president of sales and Randi Heath as office manager. The company works across North Dallas, listing Collin, Dallas, Rockwall, Tarrant and Denton counties, and names Plano neighbourhoods including Willow Bend, Deerfield, Kings Ridge and Whiffletree. Services cover roof inspections, leak repair, repair and replacement, new installation, storm damage restoration and commercial roofing. The material list is broad, running from architectural, laminate and fibreglass asphalt shingles through metal (copper, steel and corrugated panels), concrete tile, slate and faux slate, to single-ply commercial systems including TPO and EPDM. On credentials, Texas Star Roofing holds a profile in Owens Corning's own contractor directory. Its site also states CertainTeed ShingleMaster standing, Gerard and TruSlate certification, membership of the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association, and an Angi Super Service Award every year since 2008. Those claims appear only on the company's own pages and were not confirmed on the relevant manufacturers' own directories, so they are recorded here as stated by the company. Plano sits in the heart of North Texas hail country and well inland of the coast, so hail and wind claims are the main storm driver.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0413 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I could not be more impressed with any type of company, especially a roofing company. I found this company probably 15-20 years ago. I research up and down before I ever make the first phone call. The first roof they put on for me was many years ago. They did excellent work, they are professional and ethical. Aaron is by here making sure his crews are doing what they should be doing a few times a day. Aaron keeps you updated at all times. The roof we had a storm on was on 3,25,25. I called Aaron at 8:00 am on 3.26.25. He was out here by 9:30. I had holes in my roof among other damage. We have been fighting with our insurance agency from March 2025 until January 2026. Aaron has put in probably 30 hours or more with details, pictures, and rewritten the estimate many times for the insurance. Most would not do this. My new roof is now on as of February 2026. They do any kind of roofing such as shingles, TEK stone coated steel, this is what I did this time, metal roofs which I partially have on my porches now. It looks beautiful and I didn’t worry about it once because I knew Aaron and Texas Star would take care of everything. For me to say I truthfully didn’t worry when workers were here to do something on my house is a miracle. If you have read this far please if you need a new roof, hire this company so you don’t have problems along the way or after they get their check. You will not be sorry!

Texas Star Roofing installed our roof in 2011 and did an excellent job. We had no problems with the roof for the past 15 years. However this year (2026), Jay Williamson (Texas Star Roofing) did an inspection and found granules were missing from shingles all over the roof. Based on his recommendation, we filed a warranty claim with the shingle manufacturer. With Jay's invaluable assistance in providing information to the shingle manufacturer, we received approval of our warranty claim. Texas Star Roofing just installed our new roof and again did an excellent job. Everyone at Texas Star Roofing is professional, courtesy, and go above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you Jay and Texas Star Roofing!!

He is very knowledgeable & worked seamlessly with our insurance company, providing us with a beautiful, upgraded roof & new skylights. We couldn't be more pleased.

We have used the Texas Star Roofing team multiple times over the years. Always a prompt and professional experience. Good work done when they promised, how they described. Would recommend their team and plan to continue to use their services in the future.

Responsive and honest. We were referred to Texas Star Roofing by our son and have had them out several times to inspect our roof after major hail storms and to repair poorly installed vent pipes and exhaust fan outlets. We recently found a water spot on our kitchen ceiling on Sunday night and called Texas Star Roofing first thing Monday morning. Jay fit us into his schedule and came out to view the problem on Tuesday morning and had his team out the same day to inspect our roof, identify the problem and propose a solution. His team placed a tarp over the problem area and came out Saturday morning and did the repair. Texas Star Roofing is our go-to for any issues with our roof.

Frequently asked

What does it mean that this company is RCAT Licensed rather than an RCAT Member?
RCAT, the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, runs two separate things. Membership means a company pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned through examination and documented experience and sits above plain membership. Texas Star Roofing carries the licensed credential, which is the stronger of the two.
Does that mean the company is licensed by the State of Texas?
No, and the distinction matters. Texas issues no statewide roofing contractor licence. The RCAT credential is awarded by a private trade association, not by a government body. When a roofer anywhere in Texas says fully licensed, ask which body issued the licence, because it will never be the state for roofing itself.
Which of its manufacturer credentials could be verified independently?
The Owens Corning listing is confirmed on Owens Corning's own contractor directory. The CertainTeed ShingleMaster, Gerard and TruSlate credentials and the NTRCA membership appear on the company's own website and were not found on the relevant manufacturers' own directories during this check, so they are recorded as stated by the company. Ask for current certificates if a warranty depends on one.
How much hail should a Plano homeowner expect?
Collin County sits in the part of Texas that takes the most damaging hail in the country, with the worst of it typically between March and June. Roofs here often reach the end of their working life through accumulated hail bruising rather than age alone, which is why an inspection after a significant storm is worth doing even when nothing leaks.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth the extra cost in Plano?
Usually yes. Class 4 impact-rated products are tested against a steel ball drop and most Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them, which can pay back the upgrade over the life of the roof. Confirm the discount with your carrier first, then ask for the Class 4 option quoted alongside the standard shingle.
Does Plano require a permit for a roof replacement?
Texas has no statewide code administration, so this is set locally. The City of Plano and the surrounding Collin and Denton County cities normally require a permit and a final inspection for a full replacement. Ask the contractor to pull the permit in its own name and to give you the permit number, because that record follows the property.
How long does a typical Plano re-roof take?
Most single-family asphalt shingle replacements are a one to two day job once materials are on site, weather permitting. Tile, slate and metal take longer, and commercial low-slope work is measured differently again. Decking replacement discovered after tear-off is the usual cause of both delay and extra cost, so agree the per sheet price in advance.
What is the difference between a manufacturer warranty and a workmanship warranty?
The manufacturer warranty covers defects in the shingles, tiles or panels. The workmanship warranty covers the installation, and that is what most early leaks come down to. Ask for the workmanship term in years, whether it transfers to a buyer if you sell, and what specifically voids it.
How do I check a roofer's insurance properly?
Request that the certificate of insurance be sent to you directly by the insurance agency rather than passed on by the contractor, then check that general liability and workers compensation are both current and that the dates cover your job. Texas does not require workers compensation for most private employers, so if a roofer carries none, get in writing who is responsible if a crew member is injured on your roof.
Can a contractor cover my deductible on a hail claim?
No. Texas law makes the homeowner responsible for paying the insurance deductible, and an offer to waive it, discount it away, or bury it in a padded invoice exposes both parties. Any roofer who leads with that offer should be crossed off the list, however good the rest of the quote looks.
