About

Swan Roofing LLC has been roofing the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex from Plano since 1981, which makes it one of the longer running independent roofing firms in Collin County. It is owned and run by Kirk Swan, with Fatima Swan as vice president and CFO, and works from 1321 Precision Dr, Suite 600 in Plano. BBB has listed the company as an Accredited Business since 1 March 1990, with an A+ rating. The company is a GAF Master Elite contractor and carries a profile in GAF's own residential and commercial contractor directories at the Plano address, which is the check worth making since Master Elite is a manufacturer credential and not a government one. Its site also displays a GAF President's Club ICON award badge for 2022, an NTRCA 2024 badge and a 2024 RCAT MIGS badge. Memberships listed include the Plano Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Worth Chamber, NTRCA, RCAT, the Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas and NAHB. Work covers residential and commercial roof repair and replacement, metal roofing, preventative maintenance and inspections including thermal imaging, redecks, gutters, siding, waterproofing, custom fabricated chimney caps, solar panel installation and shingle recycling. Materials range across composition shingles, impact resistant shingles, wood shingles and shakes, tile and slate including Monier Lifetile, Berridge standing seam metal and EcoStar synthetic. Manufacturers named on the site include GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Malarkey, Tamko and Atlas. The company says it handles over 500 roofing jobs a year, keeps an on site showroom at the Plano office, and is a preferred contractor for several major insurers in the Metroplex.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We had our roof replaced by another company in 2023, but experienced water infiltration to 2 rooms during short-lived but heavy storms last week. Our original roofer blamed leaf debris buildup, but that didn't seem to fully explain the large amount of water that came into our home. I called Swan for a 2nd opinion. Mark came out within 24 hours, did a thorough assessment, took pictures, answered questions, and made suggestions as to where the leak may have occurred and recommendation/estimate to repair. He was quick to respond and very kind and helpful in every way. Swans team was ready to get us fixed ASAP and for a reasonable cost. I would have proceeded to use this company, however as our roof was still under workmanship warranty from the original installer, we took Marks report back to them and they are coming to handle the work free of charge under their warranty. Mark has continued to stay in touch as a backup, should it be needed. Their attention to our concerns and more timely response to our leak would have me without a doubt reecommend Swan Roofing for their above and beyond customer service. I will definitely call Swan first the next time we are in the market for exterior construction needs!

Swan Roofing is a top notch company. Insurance did not want to pay when my roof was hail damaged. Mark Lenzer went above and beyond to provide me with everything needed to get this claim processed. His years of experience proved valuable in convincing insurance this roof needed to be replaced. Even though it was a small job, he didn't treat it that way. He took care of my home as if it were his own. I couldn't be happier with my new roof. It is beautiful!

Swan Roofing just replaced my roof due to hail damage. This was my third roof replacement during the last 10 years and this was by far my best experience with a roofing contractor. Jason Perez, the Swan representative who managed my project, was a pleasure to work with. He thoroughly explained the roof replacement process, answered my numerous questions and was excellent at communicating the arrival timing of the various contractors who worked on the project. When some of the costs exceeded the insurance company's estimate, he provided the insurance company with the information needed to have a supplemental payment issued. Norma and Fatima in the office were also very helpful with scheduling and answering questions. During the roof replacement, I was very impressed with how the crew cleaned up debris throughout the day and not just at the end of the job. In fact, a neighbor who lives across the street informed me that she was impressed with how clean the job site was maintained. In summary, this roof replacement was a positive experience and I will definitely use Swan again for any roof repairs or replacement.

Frequently asked

How long has Swan Roofing been in business?
Since 1981. BBB records the business start as 1 January 1981 and shows it as an Accredited Business since 1 March 1990 with an A+ rating. It is owned and operated by Kirk Swan, with Fatima Swan as vice president and CFO, and has stayed in Plano throughout.
What does GAF Master Elite actually mean, and is it verified?
Master Elite is GAF's top contractor tier, requiring the contractor to be licensed where applicable, adequately insured and to maintain a track record with GAF. It lets the contractor offer GAF's strongest warranties including the Golden Pledge. Swan Roofing LLC has a profile in GAF's own residential and commercial contractor directories at the Plano address, which is the right place to check rather than trusting a badge on a website.
What does the RCAT status on this listing mean?
Swan Roofing is carried here as an RCAT Member. That means the company pays dues to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. It is a separate thing from RCAT's earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL), which requires testing and continuing education. Do not treat Member as a license.
Is Swan Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
No, because Texas does not license roofing contractors. There is no state number to check for any roofer in Texas. What you can verify instead is current general liability and workers compensation insurance, the GAF directory listing, the BBB accreditation record, and RCAT standing.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in Collin County?
Collin County sits in the heart of North Texas hail alley and Plano, Frisco and McKinney all take repeat hail. A Class 4 shingle passes the UL 2218 steel ball impact test and most Texas carriers give a premium discount for one. Swan lists impact resistant shingles among its materials. Ask your insurer for the exact discount on your policy first, since it decides whether the upgrade pays back.
Does the company help with hail damage insurance claims?
Yes, insurance assistance is one of its listed services and the company says it is a preferred contractor for several major insurers in the Metroplex. It also offers thermal imaging inspections, which can help document moisture intrusion. The claim remains yours, so keep your own photographs and read the adjuster's scope of loss before signing anything.
Is there really a showroom?
The company states it is the only roofing company in the area with an on site showroom, at its Plano office at 1321 Precision Dr, Suite 600. That claim is the company's own, but a showroom visit is a reasonable request to make before you choose a shingle line or a metal profile, since colour and profile look very different on a roof than on a sample board.
Which cities does Swan Roofing cover?
Plano and Dallas are the primary markets, with published coverage across the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex including McKinney, Frisco, Denton, Carrollton, Southlake and Las Colinas. BBB also lists numbers with 903 and 940 area codes, which point to work reaching east and north of the Metroplex.
Does it do anything besides asphalt shingles?
Yes. Materials listed include wood shingles and shakes, tile and slate including Monier Lifetile, Berridge standing seam metal and EcoStar synthetic, plus redecks. Named manufacturers include GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Malarkey, Tamko and Atlas. Services extend to gutters, siding, waterproofing, custom chimney caps, solar panel installation and shingle recycling.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Plano?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent by the agent directly. Confirm who pulls the City of Plano permit and schedules inspection, since Texas has no statewide building code and each city sets its own process. Get the exact shingle line and whether it is Class 4 in writing, ask whether the GAF Golden Pledge or a lesser warranty is being quoted, and check the payment schedule and the workmanship warranty term.
