About

Sonova Construction is a Plano based general contractor working across Collin County and the wider North Texas area. The company is not a roofing specialist. It presents itself as a full service residential and commercial construction and remodeling firm, and roofing is one line inside that mix rather than the whole business. Its residential services page lists roof repair, new roof installation, shingle repair and gutter installation alongside kitchen and bathroom remodeling, interior and exterior painting, fencing, decks, concrete work and flooring. Its BBB profile is filed under Roofing Contractors and also carries Metal Roofing, Roof Leak Repair and General Contractor categories, and its Nextdoor business page lists Roofer among its categories. So roofing is a genuine service line, offered by a company whose work also spans remodeling, painting and general contracting. The business is new as a legal entity. BBB records show Sonova Construction LLC was started and incorporated on 19 June 2025, and the company became a BBB Accredited Business with an A rating on 20 April 2026. Its own website describes the team as family owned and family operated with over 8 years of industry experience, which refers to the crew rather than the age of the LLC. BBB lists Andy Rettke and Austin Harrell as owners, with Ryan Rettke and Rebecca S. Rettke as managers. The RCAT directory lists the company at 2021 Rigsbee Drive in Plano with Andrew Rettke as the primary contact. Sonova markets to Plano, Allen, Parker, Murphy, Wylie, Richardson, Dallas, Garland, McKinney, Frisco, Little Elm and surrounding communities. Collin County sits inside the North Texas hail corridor, so storm driven roof repair and replacement is a normal part of the local workload. No manufacturer roofing certification for Sonova was found in any manufacturer directory, so homeowners looking for a GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed credentialed installer should ask the company directly and verify on the manufacturer's own contractor locator.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We worked with Sonova Construction on a full renovation. From the beginning, Andy brought a strong vision to the project. There were several areas where we weren’t quite sure how to use the space or what direction to take, and he came in with thoughtful ideas that helped transform the layout into a much more functional open-concept design. We ended up removing walls, reworking the flow of the home, and even adding a half bath and pantry. Truly every part of the house was touched. Andy was also incredibly helpful when we hit decision fatigue (which happens a lot in a full remodel). Instead of feeling stuck, we were able to lean on his experience to keep things moving without overcomplicating every choice. Like any large project, there were a few hiccups along the way. What stood out though, was how those situations were handled. Andy was always respectful, approachable, and solution-oriented. We were able to talk things through and come to a mutually agreeable resolutions, which made a big difference. They were professional, transparent, honest, and easy to work with and their team was friendly and communicative throughout. We are very happy with the results.

I was originally hired as a photographer by one the clients of Sonova. I was so impressed with the finish of their work that I hired them to remodel my whole bathroom. The team was professional, communicative, and kept such a clean worksite. When there were order delays, or weather restrictions Katy made sure to let me know and kept me informed. Although I always had Kris as a point of contact, I had several Sonova people I could reach out to whenever I needed. The results speak for themselves!

I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know the team at Sonova Construction. Every interaction I’ve had with them has been positive, professional, and welcoming, and it’s clear they are building something special as a company. Kris has especially been wonderful to work with. She is incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and easy to talk to, and you can tell she genuinely cares about both the business and the people connected to it. I also really admire the vision Andy has for growing the company and continuing to build a strong team and future for Sonova Construction. What stood out to me most is how genuine and down-to-earth everyone has been throughout the process. You can tell this is a company focused not only on growth, but also on treating people well and building strong relationships. I highly recommend Sonova Construction to anyone looking for a professional and trustworthy team that truly cares about their work and their community.

I cannot say enough good things about Sonova. We are so thankful we went with Sonova to manage all of the different jobs we had done. They took the stress off of us and took care of everything. They are upfront, honest, caring, and truly put the customer first . The owner Andy came out to hear about all of the work we needed done , and we were so impressed by him . He has a debth of knowledge about Construction and how things work and dont work. He led us in the right direction with each project . Our project manager was Kris Depalma, so thankful she was on our project. She is so kind , so caring , and so detailed oriented. The details can make or break a project . Kris has an eye for detail and short cuts dont cut it with her. Things are to be done one way only ... The Right Way!! She makes sure things are done right and that the customer is happy. With every large project, things can happen ... But with Sonova being in charge, there are No Problems that end up your problems!! If something comes up, it gets handled immediately. They are not happy unless the customer is happy. Kris was at our home working with the contractors to make sure things were being done right, things were cleaned up at the end of each day, and to stay on top of any concerns or questions we may have had. She is one of a kind and she is the one you want managing your project !! She is a so personable and her character puts you at ease !! Kris is Amazing !!! Once again, Sonova as a company and the individuals that are on the team genuinely care . Ryan came out to check on the progress and to see if things were being done to Sonova standards. We truly appreciated Ryan stopping by multiple times. Sonova really works great as a team . One steps in for the other to keep the job moving forward and to see to it that things are being handled. That is what impressed me the most about Sonova, they are truly an incredible team. We finished our project with Sonova Landscaping. John is the absolute best . He knows so much about plants and is so passionate about Landscaping. He did things we did not know to ask for because it would look better and for John , he sees his job like its a work of art . No one has ever done a better job than little John. He is a perfectionist and so passionate about what he does. He is kind , so full of joy, and the hardest worker. They may call him little John but he has the biggest heart and is so incredibly talented. Little John is the Big time Best!! It was a true pleasure having him at our home . All in all, I would give Sonova more than 5 stars . I highly recommend this company and will use them again in the future. I have already referred them to people because I know I can proudly back them and the job i know they will do. Sonova is the real deal! You are truly in great hands with Sonova. Thank you to Andy, Kris, and the entire team for caring about us and our home . Our project is complete and we are so incredibly happy!

Frequently asked

Is Sonova Construction actually a roofing company?
It is a general construction and remodeling contractor that offers roofing as one of its service lines. Its residential services page lists roof repair, new roof installation, shingle repair and gutter installation, its BBB profile is filed under Roofing Contractors with Metal Roofing and Roof Leak Repair categories, and its Nextdoor page lists Roofer. If you want a roofing only specialist, ask how much of the company's yearly volume is roof work before you sign.
Does Texas require a state roofing licence?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence, so no roofer in Plano or anywhere else in the state can be state licensed for roofing. Your real checks are a current certificate of general liability and workers compensation insurance issued directly by the insurer, the contractor's standing with trade bodies such as RCAT, and any registration your city requires.
What does RCAT Member mean, and is it the same as being a licensed roofing contractor?
No, they are two different things. RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. A plain Member pays dues and agrees to the association's code. RCAT separately awards a Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) that a named individual must earn through testing and experience. A company can be a Member without holding that credential. Sonova Construction is carried as an RCAT Member.
How old is Sonova Construction?
BBB records show the LLC was started and incorporated on 19 June 2025. The company's own site describes over 8 years of industry experience, which refers to the background of the people rather than the life of the business. If long trading history matters to you, treat the 2025 formation date as the fact and ask for references on completed roofs.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Plano or elsewhere in Collin County?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection are set city by city. Plano, Allen, McKinney, Frisco and Wylie each run their own permit and inspection process for reroofs. Ask your contractor in writing who pulls the permit and who schedules the final inspection, and make sure the answer is the contractor and not you.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in Collin County?
Collin County sits in the North Texas hail belt, so Class 4 impact resistant shingles are the single most useful upgrade for most homes here. Class 4 is the top rating in the UL 2218 steel ball impact test. Many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof, so ask your carrier what the credit is worth before you choose a shingle, and get the product name and rating written into the contract.
How does a Texas hail insurance claim usually work?
You report the storm date to your carrier, an adjuster inspects, and the carrier issues a scope and an estimate based on actual cash value first. Once the work is done and invoiced, most policies release the recoverable depreciation. You still owe your deductible. In Texas it is illegal for a contractor to pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible, so treat any offer to do so as a red flag.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for the certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurance agent, the exact shingle brand, line and impact rating, who pulls the permit, the workmanship warranty length in writing, whether the manufacturer warranty is a standard or an enhanced system warranty, the payment schedule, and the cleanup and magnet sweep plan. Get every promise on paper before any money changes hands.
Does Sonova Construction hold a manufacturer roofing certification?
No manufacturer certification for Sonova Construction was found in the GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed contractor directories. That is not a mark against the company, it simply means the credential could not be confirmed at the source. If a certification is quoted to you, ask which manufacturer and at what level, then look the company up on that manufacturer's own contractor locator.
Which areas does Sonova Construction serve?
The company lists Plano, Allen, Parker, Murphy, Wylie, Richardson, Dallas, Garland, McKinney, Frisco, Little Elm and surrounding areas across North Texas. Its office address on the RCAT listing is 2021 Rigsbee Drive in Plano, Collin County.
