About

Storm Warden Roofing & Exteriors is a Burleson-based roofing and exterior contractor covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area from 4280 E FM 1187, Burleson, Tarrant County. The company brands publicly as Storm Warden Roofing & Exteriors and trades on the domain swrae.com, which is simply the brand's initials. BBB confirms the domain belongs to this business, listing swrae.com as the website against the same Burleson address and the same phone number, (682) 224-2097. The company was founded in 2024. Its site states "Since 2024" and BBB records the business as started on May 7, 2024 and BBB Accredited since November 21, 2024, with a BBB rating of A that BBB attributes in part to the short time the business has been operating. BBB also records a former name of GNU Construction, and some page titles on swrae.com still carry that older name, which is a leftover from the rebrand rather than a separate company. The owner is listed on BBB as Michael "Mike" Scurlock. The company describes itself as founded by Navy, Army and Marine Corps veterans with more than twenty years of combined roofing experience. Services cover roof repair, replacement and inspection, storm damage restoration, commercial roofing, multi-family and HOA roofing, siding and gutters. The site names TAMKO, IKO, GAF and Owens Corning as the shingle brands it installs, but these are supplier relationships rather than earned manufacturer certifications and none was found on a manufacturer's contractor directory. Burleson is inland North Texas, so hail is the dominant risk and Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are the relevant upgrade, not coastal windstorm certification.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0717 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Professional, Hassle-Free, and Top-Quality Work I highly recommend Storm Warden Roofing if you need a roof replacement or repair. Ken Armstead, the production manager, was excellent to work with he was punctual, professional, and kept everything moving exactly as scheduled. What truly set them apart was how they handled my insurance claim. Instead of me having to navigate the back-and-forth, the team at Storm Warden took the lead. They coordinated directly with my adjuster to ensure every bit of damage was documented correctly, which saved me an immense amount of time and stress. The actual installation was just as impressive. The crew was meticulous, paid close attention to detail, and cleaned up the site perfectly once the job was done. It is rare to find a company that hits the trifecta of great communication, high-quality workmanship, and genuine reliability. If you want a roofing contractor that treats your home with care and handles the heavy lifting of the claims process for you, call these guys. You won't be disappointed!

I recently had the pleasure of working with GNU Construction for a complete gutter installation, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, the process was fast, efficient, and absolutely professional. Mike and Chandler were the definition of a top-tier team—arriving right on time, fully prepared, and clearly knowledgeable about every step of the job. What impressed me most was the speed without any sacrifice in quality. They completed the installation far quicker than I expected, but every section of the gutter system was perfectly aligned, secured, and finished with precision. You can tell they take pride in their craftsmanship. The price point was another huge win. I had gathered a few quotes beforehand, and GNU Construction came in with a rate that was not only fair but surprisingly competitive for the high level of service provided. It’s rare to find a company that balances affordability and quality so well. Mike and Chandler’s professionalism stood out the entire time. They were courteous, transparent about the process, and their crews left the site spotless when the job was done. If you want gutters installed quickly, flawlessly, and at an amazing value, I cannot recommend GNU Construction enough. Five stars all the way!

Frequently asked

Why does the website domain say swrae.com instead of the company name?
swrae.com is simply the initials of Storm Warden Roofing And Exteriors. BBB lists swrae.com as the official website for the business at 4280 E FM 1187 in Burleson with the phone number (682) 224-2097, so the domain is confirmed as theirs. The public brand is Storm Warden Roofing & Exteriors.
Some pages on the site mention GNU Construction. Is that a different company?
No. BBB records GNU Construction as a former name of this business. Some page titles on swrae.com still carry the old name after the rebrand to Storm Warden. It is the same entity, same address and same phone.
How long has Storm Warden been in business?
Since 2024. The company's own site says "Since 2024" and BBB records the business as started on May 7, 2024, accredited since November 21, 2024. BBB notes its A rating reflects in part how long the business has been operating. The founders state more than twenty years of combined roofing experience between them, which predates the company.
Does Texas issue a state roofing licence?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence, so no Burleson roofer can be state-licensed for roofing. Check insurance certificates, RCAT standing, city or county registration where required, and any manufacturer certification on the manufacturer's own directory.
What does the RCAT Licensed status on this listing mean?
RCAT, the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, issues a separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) requiring testing and experience. That is different from and higher than plain RCAT membership, which reflects paid dues only. This company is recorded as holding the Licensed credential.
Do the GAF and Owens Corning names on the site mean the company is certified by them?
Not necessarily. The site lists TAMKO, IKO, GAF and Owens Corning as shingle brands it installs. That is a supplier relationship. No GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed contractor certification was found for this company on those manufacturers' own directories. Ask directly whether an enhanced manufacturer warranty is available on your job.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in Burleson?
Usually yes. Burleson sits in the North Texas hail belt. A Class 4 shingle passes the UL 2218 steel-ball impact test and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for one. Ask your carrier what the discount is before you pick a product, and get the impact rating written into the scope.
Is windstorm or WPI-8 certification relevant in Tarrant County?
No. WPI-8 certification through TWIA applies only to the 14 first-tier Gulf Coast counties. Burleson is inland and outside that programme, so it is not part of a roof replacement here.
Who handles the permit for a roof replacement near Burleson?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting varies by jurisdiction. Burleson straddles the Tarrant and Johnson county line, and requirements differ between the City of Burleson, neighbouring cities and unincorporated county areas. Confirm what your address needs and put permit responsibility in the contract.
What should I ask before signing with any DFW roofer after a hail storm?
Ask for a current certificate of general liability and workers' compensation insurance sent directly by the insurer, a written scope naming the shingle line and impact rating, whether crews are in-house or subcontracted, the workmanship warranty length in writing, and who pulls the permit. Never accept an offer to absorb or waive your deductible, which is not lawful in Texas.
