About

San Antonio Metal Roofing LLC trades publicly as SA Metal Roofing and works only in metal. It operates from 203 Yolanda Drive, San Antonio, in Bexar County, and its site tagline is "Your Metal Roofing Experts in San Antonio." The Better Business Bureau records the business as starting on 3 May 2011 and lists Ovi M. Sandoval as owner, the same contact name held on the RCAT record. The scope is residential and commercial metal roofing across new construction, re-roofing, repair, restoration and maintenance, plus metal gutter work and custom fabrication. The company advertises on-site fabrication, which means panels can be roll formed at the job rather than shipped cut to length. Published panel types cover standing seam in snap-lock, mechanically seamed and nail strip versions, exposed fastener profiles including R-Panel, V-Crimp and corrugated, and metal tile, shingle and shake profiles that imitate traditional roofing. Its stated coverage runs across San Antonio and out into the Hill Country, including New Braunfels, Fredericksburg, Boerne, Comfort, Seguin, Canyon Lake, La Vernia and Cibolo. On credentials, the company displays RCAT and CTRCA (Central Texas Roofing Contractors Association) marks on its own site alongside McElroy Metal, Berridge and SA Quality Metals, and RCAT records it as a Member. It has a BBB profile carrying an A+ rating but is not a BBB Accredited Business. The 30 plus years of metal roofing experience shown on the site describes the team and is stated by the company; the BBB start date for the business itself is 2011. No manufacturer contractor certification was found on a manufacturer's own directory.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

We had an excellent experience with SA Metal Roofing company from start to finish. The crew was professional, punctual, and extremely knowledgeable. Ovi explained the process clearly, answered all of our questions, and completed the job on time. The quality of the workmanship on the standing seam metal roof is outstanding, and the clean-up was thorough—our property looked great when they were done. My family members, neighbors, and friends that saw the roof were very impressed with the new standing seam metal roof. It’s rare to find a company that truly takes pride in their work, and it shows. I would highly recommend SA Metal Roofing LLC to anyone needing metal roofing services.

If you are looking for a great company to install your new metal roof you cannot go wrong with SA Metal Roofing LLC. Had my roof replaced in late May and they did an excellent job. They gave me a quote and that was the amount I paid. They gave me a time frame for the job and completed it a few days early. They help me remove my solar panels after I disconnected the electrical on them. They also removed and reinstalled my gutters. I had several area where they replaced the roofing deck around 6 sheet total for the house. The next few days after they finished the install we had heavy rains in San Antonio and not one leak. These were 5 inch downpours. To sum it all up, they did what they said they would on time and cleaned up every day. But take a look at the picture and see, it looks amazing

I spent a lot of time researching roofing companies, and I couldn’t have picked a better roofing company than SA Metal Roofing. Ovi and his team did a fantastic job and my new roof looks awesome!! Ovi is an excellent project manager, and he clearly set expectations, explained the work process, and provided a reasonable timeline to complete my roof. He has an awesome crew who expertly completed the work. They treated my house/roof as if they were working on their own houses. The team worked swiftly and efficiently, and they cleaned up as they went along! They were amazing to watch. Their teamwork and focus on quality were impressive – and my new roof was finished ahead of schedule. I’ve recommended Ovi and his team to my family and friends – and now to you.

New roof and metal chimney cap by SA Metal just completed. The onsite team was very professional and completed all work in less time than expected. Cleanup was done daily, very fair quote and there were no surprise added costs like other companies. Would highly recommend SA Metal, many thanks to Ovi and his team.

My home had a standing seam metal roof installed in 2012 by a different company. Cosmetically, it was horrible. I had paid half up front, and the company just disappeared without final payment rather than correct all of the issues. They also blasted music the entire time they were onsite (about 10 days). Fortunately, a major hailstorm in April of 2024 allowed me the opportunity to replace it. I was obviously very leery of roofing companies by then. My neighbor had his roof installed by SA Metal Roofing LLC, and said he had met with five companies before selecting them. I had Ovi, the owner, come by to provide an estimate. He was a very pleasant, laid-back person whom I instantly felt comfortable with. I agreed to his estimate, which I received by email after a few days, and they just completed my roof. I had explained to him when we first met that we were so disappointed in the cosmetics of the old roof, and did not want that to happen again. The previous roofer did not remove the gutters, and the drip edge was sitting on the gutter hangers, causing the roof to bow up near the edge of the roof, which looked atrocious. I had Ovi remove the gutters, and there was still an issue with the 1x2 fascia trim board sticking up higher than the roof deck, so he bought new trim to go all around the house and replaced it all, lowering it. His main crew has been with him for over 10 years, so I know he must treat his employees well, and they are incredibly efficient, like a well-oiled machine. The old roof and gutters were removed and the underlayment installed on the back and sides of the house on the first day, and they began installing metal the next day. The old roof had leaked around many of the roof jacks, so they had to replace the decking in a few locations. The front side if the house is much more complicated, as you can see from the pictures, so it took quite a bit longer. They found an entire 2x3 foot section of decking rotted underneath a front gable, and there was no supporting structure for the decking. They added support structure before installing the new piece of roof deck. Ovi was very concerned about getting the trim cosmetics just right after hearing my wife's complaints about the last roofer. The difference between what this company did and the previous roofer was like night and day. I couldn't be more pleased with the finish quality. After it was complete, he told me to call him and let him know how my wife liked it (she's away on a trip), and he would come back and address any concerns she might have. Although there was more work involved than originally thought (such as removing all of the 1x2s and replacing them with lowered ones), the original estimate ha gave me was what I paid. Ovi was onsite every day, and on some days for lengthy intervals, operating the machine that makes the panels, for instance. His crew was friendly and polite, and it was nice to hear them laughing a lot during lunch hour and occasionally singing while working. There was no music being played, except sometimes from a worker's cell phone. Nothing that would disturb us or our neighbors. They cleaned up every day, and left a clean site when the job was complete. I enthusiastically give Ovi and his team my highest recommendation, and even asked for some business cards so I can carry one in my wallet in case I meet someone thinking of installing a metal roof.

Frequently asked

Is SA Metal Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas issues no state roofing licence, so no Texas roofer has one. What you can verify is current general liability and workers compensation insurance, RCAT status, association membership and city or county registration where required. San Antonio Metal Roofing LLC is recorded by RCAT as a Member and displays RCAT and CTRCA marks on its own site.
Is RCAT Member the same as an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
No. RCAT membership means the company belongs to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and pays dues. The RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is a separate, separately earned designation. This company is recorded as a Member. If the credential matters to you, ask to see the certificate rather than relying on a logo.
Is the company BBB Accredited?
No. It has a BBB business profile carrying an A+ rating, but the profile explicitly states it is not a BBB Accredited Business. An A+ rating and accreditation are different things: the rating reflects BBB's own assessment, while accreditation is a paid programme with its own standards. Neither replaces checking insurance certificates directly with the insurer.
What is the difference between standing seam and exposed fastener metal roofing?
Standing seam hides the fasteners under raised seams, so nothing penetrates the panel face. That means fewer leak points and a longer service life, at higher cost. Exposed fastener panels such as R-Panel, V-Crimp and corrugated screw straight through the panel with a rubber washer. They cost less and go on faster, but the washers degrade and typically need retightening or replacement over time. SA Metal Roofing installs both, so ask which the quote is based on.
How does metal hold up to San Antonio hail?
Structurally, metal is very good in hail: it usually dents rather than fractures, and it rarely fails suddenly the way an aged shingle does. Denting is a cosmetic issue. The catch is insurance. Many Texas policies carry a cosmetic damage exclusion for metal roofs, meaning dents that do not cause a leak are not paid. Read that exclusion in your policy before you choose metal, and ask the contractor whether a heavier gauge or a striated or textured panel profile would help hide minor denting.
Do metal roofs make a house hotter in a South Texas summer?
The opposite, generally. Bare metal reflects a large share of solar radiation, and painted metal with a reflective pigment coating reflects more still. Combined with proper attic ventilation and, on some assemblies, a batten or above-sheathing ventilation gap, a metal roof usually runs cooler than dark asphalt. Ask for the solar reflectance and thermal emittance figures for the specific colour and coating being quoted.
How long should a metal roof last here?
A properly installed standing seam roof in a Texas climate is commonly expected to serve several decades, well beyond a typical asphalt shingle roof. The limiting factors are usually the paint finish, the fastener and sealant details at penetrations, and the flashing at valleys and walls, not the panel itself. Ask separately for the panel substrate warranty, the paint finish warranty and the contractor's own workmanship warranty, because those are three different documents with three different terms.
What does on-site fabrication actually get me?
Panels roll formed at the job can be made in continuous lengths matched to your roof, which removes horizontal end laps. End laps are a common leak point on long slopes. It also avoids the shipping damage that comes with transporting long factory panels. Ask whether your specific job will be roll formed on site or delivered pre-cut.
Do I need a permit for a metal roof in San Antonio or the Hill Country?
Texas has no statewide building code administered by the state, so it is decided locally. San Antonio requires a roofing permit, and surrounding jurisdictions such as New Braunfels, Boerne and Seguin have their own rules, with some unincorporated county areas requiring little or nothing. Ask which authority has jurisdiction at your address and confirm the contractor pulls the permit in its own name.
What should I ask for before signing a metal roofing contract?
The panel manufacturer and profile name, the gauge and substrate (for example 24 gauge Galvalume), the paint system, the exact colour, the clip and fastener spec, the underlayment (a high temperature underlayment matters under metal), the flashing and trim details at valleys, walls and penetrations, the workmanship warranty term, who pulls the permit, and a certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurance agency.
