About
Roof Smith is an Amarillo based roofing contractor at 6435 S Osage St, Amarillo, Texas 79118, which sits in Randall County. Owner Taylor Smith founded the business from a family roofing background, and the company states it has been a fixture in the Amarillo community since 2014. It has since added locations in Lubbock, in Clovis, New Mexico, and in Colorado.
Residential work covers roof repair, replacement and installation, leak repair, storm and hail damage restoration, roof inspections and preventive maintenance. On the commercial side the company works with TPO, EPDM and metal roofing systems and offers maintenance plans. It also assists homeowners with insurance claims, which matters in the Texas Panhandle where wind driven hail is the main cause of roof loss.
Owens Corning lists Roof Smith in its own contractor directory as a Platinum Preferred Contractor, the top tier of its network. The Better Business Bureau gives the company an A+ rating but records it as NOT a BBB Accredited Business, so the A+ rating should not be read as accreditation. The company is also an Associate member of the Texas Panhandle Builders Association in the gutters and roofing category.

Insurance & credential verification
Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

City/county registration
Required in Amarillo Permit office ↗Roofing Contractor Registration. Registration is required here to pull a roofing permit; we have not confirmed this company's own status, so check it before you sign.
Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0332 or the company name.
Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I had a great experience with Roof Smith. Their team was professional, on time, and easy to work with throughout the whole process. They did quality work, and my roof looks great, even better than before. It's like looking at a whole new house!
I really appreciated how smooth and stress free they made everything. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone needing roofing work.

Very disappointed – poor workmanship and no accountability. We built a brand-new home and hired Roof Smith to install our roof. From the start, we had a major leak that went on for over a year. Instead of fixing the actual problem, they kept trying quick, temporary fixes with tar and patchwork. We later found out the flashing was installed incorrectly, and there were holes everywhere. Because of their poor workmanship, the leak ruined our brand-new hardwood floors, and the wall had to be replaced multiple times after repeated water damage. Each time we called them back, they tried to blame everyone else instead of taking responsibility for their mistakes. After this experience, I would never recommend Roof Smith to anyone. If you’re building or repairing your home, save yourself the stress and find a company that stands behind their work and actually fixes problems instead of covering them up.

Chris Elam is the best! As a first-time homeowner, I was completely new to the process and everything that comes with it. Chris walked me through every step, answered all of my questions, and made what could have been a stressful experience feel easy and manageable. I truly felt supported the entire way. I can’t recommend Chris and his company enough, and I’ll definitely be sending all of my friends and family their way!

Had a wonderful experience with Chris E. Explained everything very in depth to what each item cost and why it mattered. Did not try to oversell to an item that wasn’t needed or wanted. Showed the total project overview as well as time frame for completion. Highly recommended.

Leighton came out to inspect my roof after a hailstorm and did an excellent job. He took detailed video footage, clearly explained the damage, and answered all my questions. He was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly kind. Unlike some of the out-of-town roofers going door to door and pressuring homeowners, Leighton made the process easy and stress-free. I highly recommend Roof Smith if you need a trustworthy company for roof repairs or replacement.

Frequently asked
Is Roof Smith licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas issues no state roofing licence, so no Texas roofer holds one. What you can verify instead is insurance, RCAT standing, and city or county registration where required. Roof Smith is recorded in the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas directory with an earned roofing licence credential through the association, which is a voluntary industry credential rather than a government licence.
What is the difference between RCAT membership and an RCAT licence credential?
RCAT membership simply means a company pays dues and agrees to the association's code. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is separate and is earned by examination and continuing education. Roof Smith holds the earned credential in the RCAT directory. The two should never be described as the same thing.
Is Roof Smith BBB accredited?
No. The Better Business Bureau rates Roof Smith A+ but its profile explicitly states the company is not a BBB Accredited Business. An A+ rating reflects the BBB's own scoring of complaint history and transparency. Accreditation is a separate paid programme. Do not read the A+ as accreditation.
Which manufacturer certification does Roof Smith hold?
Owens Corning lists Roof Smith in its own contractor directory as a Platinum Preferred Contractor. That is the top tier of the Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network and is the level that can register Owens Corning's strongest system warranties. Ask which specific warranty term applies to the shingle and accessory package quoted for your roof.
How long has Roof Smith been operating in Amarillo?
The company states it has been a fixture in Amarillo since 2014, and the RCAT directory gives an establishment date of 1 September 2014. The BBB profile shows a locally established date of 1 November 2014 alongside an earlier business start date of 2012 and a 2019 incorporation date, which likely reflects a change of entity. Treat 2014 as the Amarillo founding year.
Does Roof Smith handle hail damage insurance claims?
Yes. The company offers storm and hail damage restoration and insurance claim assistance. The Texas Panhandle takes frequent severe hail and high wind, and hail is the dominant reason Amarillo and Randall County roofs are replaced. Under Texas law a roofing contractor cannot act as your public adjuster on the same claim and cannot waive or absorb your deductible.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in Amarillo?
The Panhandle is a high hail frequency area, and Class 4 impact resistant shingles are tested to survive a two inch steel ball dropped from twenty feet. Most Texas insurers give a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. Ask your carrier for the discount figure in writing, then compare it against the material upcharge across the expected roof life.
What areas does Roof Smith cover in Texas?
In Texas the company serves Amarillo, Lubbock and the surrounding Panhandle and South Plains communities. It also operates from Clovis, New Mexico and has locations in Colorado, but its Texas base is the Amarillo office on S Osage Street in Randall County.
Do I need a permit to reroof in Amarillo?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is set locally. The City of Amarillo, Canyon and unincorporated Randall and Potter County all handle roofing permits and inspections differently, and rules vary between a straight reroof and a full tearoff with decking work. Confirm in the contract who pulls the permit and who schedules the inspection.
What should I ask a Panhandle roofer before signing?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent straight from the insurer, covering general liability and workers compensation. Get the scope in writing including underlayment, ridge and intake ventilation, flashing and a per sheet price for replacing damaged decking. Ask which manufacturer warranty the company's certification tier actually allows it to register, and keep that separate from its own workmanship warranty. Do not pay in full before the roof is finished and inspected.
