About

Rod Roofing LLC is a family owned roofing contractor at 440 Menchaca Street in San Antonio, Bexar County. The company was founded in December 1999 and has been a BBB Accredited Business since February 2015, currently carrying an A+ rating. The Better Business Bureau record lists Gilbert J. Rodriguez Sr. as the principal and Gilbert Rodriguez Jr. as office manager. The company works on both residential and commercial buildings and covers the full range of roof types. Composition shingle options run from 3 tab 20 year and 25 year products through dimensional 30, 40 and 50 year and lifetime lines. Metal work includes standing seam, ribbed seam, standing T seam, battened seam and coating. Low slope work covers tapered insulation, modified bitumen, built up gravel, single ply and torch applied systems. Tile work covers concrete, clay, slate and wood shakes. The company also fits attic ventilation products including radiant barrier, ridge vent, powered vents and starter vent, and handles gutter installation and exterior remodeling such as carports, decks, patios and exterior carpentry. San Antonio sits inland, so hail and straight line wind drive most roof claims here rather than coastal windstorm rules. Rod Roofing offers hail and wind damage inspection, temporary tarping, leak repair and insurance claim assistance, and states that it keeps 24 hour emergency roof repair available. The company also states that it is a member of the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and the National Roofing Contractors Association, and that it has done work for the San Antonio Zoo.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Called and explained my issue (minor leak coming from roof exhaust vent). Gilbert came out within a few hours and fixed the issue. Gilbert was quick, concise and very straight forward. Will use them for future roof repair needs.

Awesome roofers. They repaired my roof after a big wind storm took away some shingles and did an awesome job. Mr. Rodriguez was great to work with, he returned my call within minutes and was great at communicating a timeline and explaining exactly what they were going to be doing.

I had a great experience with Rod Roof. They responded to my home on the same day that I called, did a temporary seal to stop a leak, and provided a quote, so they are very efficient in their operations. Days later, for the permanent fix, two workers showed up in a professional truck with company logos. The men were cordial, conscientious, and efficient. Afterwards, they walked the front and back yards to ensure no litter was left behind. I was notified when the men were in route, and when they arrived. I was sent pictures when they completed the work. Years ago, this was the only company that successful stopped my flat roof from leaking. You won't go wrong entrusting your roof to this company.

Gilbert and the entire team went above and beyond to replace our 20+year old roof. Gilbert even helped us in a bind until financing was approved by repairing a leak during the rains. So professional and polite. His team worked through the hottest summer we’ve endured!! Also installed gutters and power washed mold that had built up due to a needed gutter. The cost, quality, and assistance with HOA approval was awesome. This is your team for your roof repair and replacement. Thank you Rod Roofing,. Bravo!!

Frequently asked

Is Rod Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no roofer in Texas holds one. The checks that do mean something are current general liability and workers compensation insurance, standing with the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, a BBB record, and any City of San Antonio registration or permitting requirement. Rod Roofing is a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating, accredited since February 2015.
What does RCAT Member mean, and is that the same as an RCAT licence?
No, they are separate. Membership means the company belongs to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through RCAT testing and continuing education. Rod Roofing is recorded as a Member. Ask the company directly if you want to know whether anyone on staff also holds the licensed credential.
How long has Rod Roofing been in business?
The company was founded in December 1999. The BBB record gives a business start date of 9 December 1999 and shows the entity incorporated in December 2013, with Gilbert J. Rodriguez Sr. as principal.
What roof types does the company work on?
Composition shingle from 3 tab through lifetime dimensional lines, metal in standing seam, ribbed seam, standing T seam and battened seam, tile in concrete, clay, slate and wood shake, and low slope systems including tapered insulation, modified bitumen, built up gravel, single ply and torch applied.
Does San Antonio get enough hail to justify impact resistant shingles?
Bexar County sits on the southern edge of the corridor that takes repeated damaging hail, and severe hail events in the San Antonio area have produced very large claim volumes. Class 4 impact resistant shingles, rated under the UL 2218 steel ball test, hold up better than standard products, and most Texas insurers offer a premium credit for them. Ask your own carrier what the discount is worth before deciding, and get the product name and rating written into the contract.
Does a roof in San Antonio need WPI-8 windstorm certification?
No. WPI-8 certification applies to the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association catastrophe area, which covers 14 first tier Gulf Coast counties plus part of Harris County. Bexar County is well inland and is not in that area, so windstorm certification is not part of a San Antonio reroof.
Do I need a permit to reroof in San Antonio?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so this is set locally. Inside San Antonio city limits a roofing permit is generally required for a replacement, and reroofing work is inspected by the city. Ask your contractor in writing who pulls the permit and who pays the fee, and confirm with the city development services office.
How does the insurance claim side work?
Rod Roofing states that it works with insurance carriers on hail and storm damage claims. Typically you file the claim, the carrier's adjuster inspects, and you receive an initial payment based on the estimate less depreciation and your deductible, with the depreciation released after the work is complete and invoiced. Keep the estimate letter and all photographs. In Texas a contractor may not pay, waive, rebate or absorb your deductible, so treat any such offer as a warning sign.
What are the hours and is emergency work available?
The office runs Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm, and is closed at weekends. The company states that 24 hour emergency roof repair is available with after hours phone support, which matters when a storm opens a roof up on a Friday night.
What should I check before signing a roofing contract?
Get the scope in writing, covering tear off versus overlay, decking replacement pricing, underlayment, ventilation and flashing. Ask for the shingle or panel brand, line and wind rating by name. Confirm who supervises on site and whether the crew is employed or subcontracted. Call the insurance agent yourself to verify the policy is active. Avoid large upfront deposits before materials are on site.
