About
Ja-Mar Roofing & Sheet Metal is a family owned Texas roofing contractor headquartered at 16712 S IH 35 Frontage Rd in Buda, south of Austin. The company site and its Better Business Bureau profile date the business to 1970, and its history page traces the operation to J&J Roofing, founded in New Orleans in 1961 and relocated to Austin in 1969. David L. Phillips has been president since acquiring the company in 2005. The Dallas registration corresponds to a real Dallas office. The Better Business Bureau carries a separate business profile for the Dallas location at 16910 Dallas Pkwy Suite 102 in the Bent Tree Village area, with its own 214 area code phone number, and the same address and number appear in the RCAT directory record. That address is a multi tenant leased office building rather than a fabrication yard, so it reads as a sales, estimating and project management office rather than a production facility. Ja-Mar also publishes a separate DFW phone line in the 817 area code on its Dallas and Fort Worth page, which lists coverage across Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton and Ellis counties. Dallas sits in the heart of Texas hail country, well inland from the Gulf. Impact resistant shingles, hail claim handling and correct fastening are the questions that matter here, not coastal windstorm certification.

Insurance & credential verification
Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.
Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0309 or the company name.
Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Absolutely 5-star service! We went with Ja-Mar for a metal roof on our 40-year old house. We chose them based on great ratings, a competitive quote, and great customer service starting with the first engagement when we got the quote. I have lots to say but I'll try to keep this brief. When Ja-Mar came out to do the job, there was a pronounced bump in the existing roof that needed to be remedied before the new metal roof could go down; otherwise it would look awful. When the crew showed up and started removing the old shingle roof, it became apparent that lots of decking would need to be removed to access the rafters underneath in order to level things out and make it right. At this point the crew was there and underway, and I had to make a snap decision to approve this work or not. I said go. A little while later I got a call from the office alerting me to a change order for my review. Keep in mind the work was already underway, and they could have charged me anything they wanted. Instead, the change order was priced very reasonably, and I was very glad to sign it. The crew did an excellent job remedying the original framing deficiencies and laying down new roof decking so everything was flat and ready for the new roof. Also, the crew ran into a couple other pre-existing conditions that they worked through. First, when they installed new flashing around the chimney, they removed the original 1x4 hardieplank trim, but at 40+ years it was brittle and broke. The crew had some 1x4 wood trim on hand but recognized I'd probably want hardieplank back on there. They gave me time to run to Home Depot and grab what was needed to re-trim it properly. No additional cost. Similarly, one of the vent stacks on the house had broken off (before they ever showed up) and was too short to properly seal. Again, the crew leader brought this to my attention, and I was able to run to home depot again to get the PVC pipe and coupling necessary for a proper repair so they could then install the boot and seal things properly. This was not their problem to solve; they just wanted to do the job right. Finally, I'll note that the crew did a fantastic job keeping the job site clean. I just can't say enough about the care and attention this crew put into making this job perfect. Absolutely 5 star performance.
Ja-Mar Roofing was very responsive initially. The receptionist was friendly and they were able to come out promptly to assess our roof. Cruz inspected the hail damage to determine whether it would be worth filing an insurance claim for a roof replacement and also discussed the option of repairing the damaged shingles if we chose not to file a claim. Unfortunately, communication became an issue after the inspection. We did not receive a quote or any follow-up information and had to call the office several times to get in touch with the contractor. Someone eventually came out and completed the roof repair, but there was no advance notice that work would be performed that day. We only realized someone was on our roof because we heard them working. No one knocked on the door before or after the repair, and we were not informed when the work was completed. Additionally, we requested photos of the completed repair before making payment, but have still not received them. While we appreciate the prompt initial response and the repair work itself, the lack of communication throughout the process made for a frustrating customer experience.
We chose Jamar because they hit the sweet spot: the most competitive quote and a stellar reputation for metal roofs. They absolutely delivered. The craftsmanship is exquisite and the team was professional from start to finish. During tear-off they accidentally damaged a couple of window screens and a lamp—things that can happen on any project—but they were completely upfront, took responsibility immediately, and replaced them without me even asking. That integrity mattered a lot to us. They also did a thorough cleanup; we’ve had zero issues with nails or debris. Special shout-out to Cruz, Steve, and the crew—super responsive to every question and genuinely helpful throughout. If you’re considering a metal roof, I can’t recommend Jamar enough. Five stars.
Ja-Mar Roofing & Sheet Metal sent me an email letting me know they had added exterior painting to their list of services. I had been intending to repaint my garage door for quite a while so took them up on the offer. They came out, power-washed the garage door, took the time to compare several different color paints to match the rest of the house as I didn't have the original paint color specifications, and came back the next day with the paint to repaint the garage door. It came out looking great and big improvement over the old garage door paint job at a very reasonable price. Thanks to Dan & his team!
Drew and the Ja-Mar team made my roofing experience way easier than I expected. From the first conversation to the final result, everything was handled professionally and with clear communication the entire way. Drew stayed on top of the project, kept me updated, and made sure the work was done right without cutting corners. What stood out most was how organized and responsive they were. It’s rare to find a company that actually follows through and takes pride in their work, but they definitely do. The process felt straightforward, honest, and stress-free from start to finish. If you’re in Austin and need roofing work done, I’d absolutely recommend reaching out to Drew and Ja-Mar Roofing. Solid work, reliable team, and genuinely good people to deal with.
