About

Homestead Roofing is a Canyon Lake based roofing contractor at 16882 FM 306 in Comal County, owned and run by Travis Macha. The Better Business Bureau records the business as started and incorporated on 21 July 2016 and lists it as a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating, accredited since August 2017. The company handles new construction roofing, reroofs and repairs across shingle, metal, flat and tile systems, and runs its own full metal fabrication shop to produce custom flashings and accessories in house, which is unusual for a contractor of this size. BBB lists its services as asphalt shingles, custom metal fabrication, gutter installation, metal roofing, new roof installations, roof inspections, roof repairs, roof replacements and siding. Homestead is listed in the Owens Corning contractor directory and states it is a CertainTeed Master Shingle Applicator. Its site names Owens Corning, CertainTeed, GAF, TAMKO, IKO, McElroy Metal, Berridge, Tilcor and VB Synthetics among the product lines it works with. It serves Canyon Lake, New Braunfels, Wimberley, San Marcos and Blanco, an inland Hill Country footprint where hail rather than coastal windstorm is the main roofing risk.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

City/county registration Not checked for Canyon LakeTexas has no state roofing licence, and city rules differ: some require contractor registration, some run a voluntary registry, some neither. Ask this company and your local permit office.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0616 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Fast, honest, & quality work. Chris & Homestead was the best contractor I’ve worked with in Canyon Lake. The work is high quality (materials, advice & installation) and his price was very competitive. They found some additional issues that needed to be addressed, which I expected, and he offered a couple of ways to resolve it so I could match my budget. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I just got a double lock standing seam roof on my cottage Feb 2026. Kerry and his crew removed the old roof, installed decking, underlayment and the standing seam roof. The crew did a great job from start to finish and completed the job in one day. They also did a great job cleaning up. I got 10 bids for this job and Homestead Roofing was half the price as the highest bid. You can't go wrong with Homestead Roofing.

Truly exceptional roof repair experience with Homestead Roofing. Contacted Chris through a local builder and within minutes, Chris contacted me to discuss the work and the cost. Within three hours, Jerry (his repair specialist) arrived and meticulously repaired and replaced an existing 4" dryer vent and installed a new 6" bathroom fan vent. The price was excellent and the repair/new installation is superb. Highly recommend!!!

I recently had the pleasure of working with Kerry from Homestead Roofing, and I can’t emphasize enough how outstanding his service was! From the moment we started, Kerry was incredibly professional and knowledgeable, guiding me through the entire roofing process with ease. His ability to communicate clearly made everything so much simpler, and he patiently answered all my questions without hesitation. Kerry's expertise made me feel confident in my choices, and his warmth and friendliness really stood out. If you're in need of a new roof or any roofing work, I highly recommend reaching out to him. You truly won't regret it! Thank you, Kerry, for your exceptional service and dedication!

I work with Homestead Roofing for two of our properties and this is my review for a metal roof replacement, and I have to say it was an EXCELLENT experience! Previously, I had a corrugated metal roof and we had issues with several leaks. I received quotes from about 6 roofing companies and decided to go with Homestead because of their work history, knowledge with metal roofs, and ease in communication (as roofs are a LONG term relationship!) Once we receive the quote and signed the contract….within a week, we were able to start the replacement. The workers were extremely efficient and Kerry was great at answering any questions I had. Had an excellent experience through the installation process, and I am excited to continue with this relationship over the years! Would certainly recommend them for anyone looking for roof repair, replacement, or evaluation ! For our other property, the prior owners installed the roof and homestead roof still keeps the warranty per address :)

Frequently asked

Does Texas license roofing contractors?
No. There is no state roofing licence in Texas, so no Canyon Lake roofer is licensed by the state to roof. The meaningful checks are current general liability and workers compensation insurance, a verifiable local address, and voluntary credentials such as RCAT status or manufacturer certification.
What does the RCAT Licensed status mean?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Beyond plain dues paying Membership, RCAT awards a separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL). Homestead Roofing is carried at the Licensed level here, which is the higher of the two and has to be earned rather than simply paid for. It is still an association credential, not a government licence.
How do I verify the company's insurance?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly by the insurance agency with your name added as certificate holder. Confirm both general liability and workers compensation, and check the policy dates cover your project window.
What is the main roofing risk around Canyon Lake?
Hail and severe thunderstorm wind. Comal County is inland Hill Country, so coastal windstorm certification does not apply here. Hail bruising and granule loss shorten a shingle roof's life well before leaks show up, which is why post storm inspections are worth booking.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles a good idea here?
Often yes. Class 4 is the highest UL 2218 impact rating and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for it. In a hail exposed area the discount plus longer service life usually justifies the upgrade, but confirm the discount amount with your own carrier before committing.
Why does an in house metal shop matter?
Homestead states it runs a full metal fabrication shop and makes its own flashings and accessories. Custom flashing lets details such as chimney, valley, wall and skylight transitions be built to fit rather than forced from stock parts, which is where a large share of roof leaks start.
What roofing systems does Homestead install?
Its site and BBB profile cover asphalt shingles, standing seam and other metal roofing, flat roofs and tile, plus gutters and siding. Product lines it names include Owens Corning, CertainTeed, GAF, TAMKO, IKO, McElroy Metal, Berridge and Tilcor.
Do I need a permit for a roof replacement in Comal County?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting varies by jurisdiction. Canyon Lake is largely unincorporated Comal County, which handles permitting differently from an incorporated city such as New Braunfels. Confirm with your jurisdiction and with any property owners association before work starts.
How long does a roof replacement take?
A standard single family asphalt shingle tear off and reroof is usually one to two days once materials are on site. Standing seam metal, tile and complex Hill Country rooflines take longer. Expect scheduling to stretch in the weeks after a widespread hail event.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract?
Get the total price and payment schedule in writing, the exact product and underlayment being installed, the workmanship warranty term, whether the manufacturer warranty will be registered in your name, who pulls any required permit, and confirm the business name on the contract matches the insurance certificate and the BBB profile.
