Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Gotcha Covered once again delivered outstanding service. I originally hired them for my roof, and they did such an exceptional job that I’ve become a repeat customer for my home contracting needs. This time they installed flooring in my attic, and the experience was just as impressive. Their team is professional, knowledgeable, and thorough, and they maintain excellent communication throughout the project. The work was completed on time, with great attention to detail and respect for my home. I highly recommend Gotcha Covered for any home improvement or contracting projects. It’s rare to find a team this dependable and consistent!

Gotcha Covered is the perfect company to complete work as promised. Chris worked closely with the painters and remodelers and let me know how it was going each step of the way. He had enough people here each day to minimize the time involved with the project, which was great for my peace of mind. At the end of each day, after sanding, sawing and painting, I could come and go with no worries of items left out or in the way. The entire process went very smoothly, and I appreciate all the people who made this painless, as I had not been looking forward to the work that had to be done. Great job Gotcha Covered!!!

Our experience with gotcha covered and Chris Willis was excellent. Very knowledgeable on insurance policy, great communication skills and always kept in touch with us. We ended up just needing shingles replaced by high winds. Which brings me to HONESTY. Would definitely use Chris again.

We had work done on our outdated kitchen, as well as painting of the entire interior of our home. New countertops, backsplash, painting of the cabinets. I can't say enough about Chris, Fernando and their team as they worked through the project. Very attentive and communicated very well each step of the way. Kept things as clean as possible during the process and kept me from stressing too much! Will definitely be hiring them again for future projects!! 5 stars!

Frequently asked

Is there a Texas state license for roofers?
No. Texas does not license roofing contractors at the state level. Verify liability insurance directly with the insurer and look for voluntary credentials such as RCAT status, BBB accreditation, and manufacturer certifications.
What does RCAT membership tell me?
RCAT membership means the company belongs to the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas and agrees to its code of ethics. It is distinct from RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, which involves testing and proof of insurance.
What does GAF Certified mean?
GAF Certified contractors are screened by the shingle manufacturer GAF for insurance and business standing, and can offer the GAF System Plus limited warranty on qualifying roof systems. It is a real manufacturer credential you can check in GAF's online directory.
How serious is hail risk in the DFW area?
North Texas is part of Hail Alley, and hail is the main driver of roof replacement in the metroplex. Regular inspections after storms catch damage early, before it turns into leaks or a denied insurance claim.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth the extra cost?
Frequently yes in DFW. Class 4 products carry the highest impact rating, and many Texas insurers give premium discounts for impact resistant roofs. Confirm the discount with your insurance agent before deciding.
What flat roofing options exist for commercial buildings?
Common single ply systems include TPO and EPDM membranes, along with Duro-Last prefabricated membranes and elastomeric roof coatings that can extend the life of an existing flat roof. The right choice depends on the building, budget, and existing roof condition.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in the mid cities?
Permitting is set by each city because Texas has no statewide roofing code authority. Richland Hills, North Richland Hills, Fort Worth, and other DFW cities each have their own rules, so confirm with your city's building department.
Will homeowners insurance cover my hail damaged roof?
Most Texas policies cover hail and wind damage minus your deductible. Texas law forbids contractors from waiving or absorbing insurance deductibles, so decline any offer to do so.
Does Gotcha Covered Contracting inspect roofs for free?
Yes. The company advertises free roof inspections, which is a sensible first step after a storm or before buying or selling a home.
What should I check before hiring any DFW roofer?
A written scope and price, a certificate of liability insurance verified with the insurer, workmanship and manufacturer warranty terms, references from nearby jobs, a reasonable payment schedule, and clarity on who pulls any permit.
