About

Fat Matt Roofing is a West Texas roofing company founded in 2014 and headquartered in Abilene at 3425 S. 14th St., Suite 100. From Abilene it has grown to six offices across West Texas (Abilene, Lubbock, Brownwood, Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo), each registered separately with RCAT. The Abilene office is the flagship: it carries the company's main phone line, its main Facebook page, its own Google Business Profile, and a BBB profile that has been accredited since 2015 with an A+ rating. The company handles residential and commercial roofing, roof repair and replacement, standard and designer shingles, metal roofing, and hail damage repair, with free roof inspections and emergency service. Abilene and the Big Country sit squarely in Texas hail country, and hail damage work is central to what the company does. On its site the company positions itself against storm chasers: it is from West Texas and stays after the work is done. Fat Matt Roofing is a GAF Master Elite contractor (verified on GAF's contractor directory) and describes itself as a CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster. It is also a member of the Big Country Home Builders Association.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0355 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Last wind storm took off shingles. Was involved with a project that drew my mind away from calling anyone. Rain got my attention; called Fat Matt and they sent a nice young man by the name of Jayden over who was quickly able to replace the missing ones and even took the time to nail down other loose ones! We talked about the whole roof and things I needed to be aware of. Excellent service with a very thoughtful manner. Will seek them out when my roof needs a replacement!

Thanks Fat Matt Roofing for a quick and professional job done on our total roof replacement. The crew worked hard completing the job in a day and half, estimated at 2. The girls work hard cleaning up while the crew worked on the roof. First day they were here until 8:30 pm , dark, working hard. I have zero complaints. Everything in the yard that needed to be moved in order for them to work, was put back when the job was done. Very pleased with the service we received. Thank you to the crew at Fat Matt Roofing! Happy Customers!

I truly cannot say enough good things about this company and especially about Alex Warren. I have worked with him over the years on both personal projects and while helping insurance customers during my time working in insurance in Abilene, and every experience has been excellent. Alex helped put the roof on my home in Abilene, and he also worked on a very special project for me — a roof for a treehouse my husband Bryan built. That project meant a lot to me personally, especially because it was completed after Bryan passed away, and Alex handled everything with kindness, professionalism, and genuine care. More recently, I reached out to him regarding concerns with my home in Arlington, and once again he was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, taking the time to give honest advice and guidance. Whether working with my insurance customers or helping my own family, Alex has always been honest, dependable, responsive, and truly caring. It’s rare to find someone you trust completely in this industry, but he has earned that trust many times over. I highly recommend Alex and this company.

Fat Matt Roofing did a great job on our new roof and Shane provided amazing customer service! He was so easy to work with, easy to get in touch with, and when something came up he handled the situation personally with follow up! I would recommend FMR to anyone who needs help with their roof and to ask for Shane!

Frequently asked

Is the Abilene office Fat Matt Roofing's headquarters?
Yes. Abilene is the home office at 3425 S. 14th St., Suite 100, and the company's five other West Texas offices (Lubbock, Brownwood, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo) grew out of it.
Is Fat Matt Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
No roofer is. Texas has no state roofing license. This Abilene registration is an RCAT Member record, and homeowners should also verify current insurance before signing.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
A Member belongs to the association and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential is separately earned through testing and vetting. This Abilene record is a Member registration; the company's other five city registrations carry the Licensed credential.
Does Fat Matt Roofing handle hail damage claims in Abilene?
Yes. Hail damage repair is a core advertised service, and the company works storm damage across Abilene and the Big Country.
Are Class 4 impact-resistant shingles worth it in Abilene?
Often yes. Class 4 shingles resist West Texas hail better, and many Texas insurers discount premiums for them. Ask the estimator to price the upgrade.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Abilene?
Texas has no statewide building code, so permitting is city by city. Check current requirements with the City of Abilene before work starts.
Is Fat Matt Roofing a storm chaser?
No. It was founded in Abilene in 2014, has six permanent West Texas offices, and has held BBB accreditation since 2015. Storm chasers by contrast blow into town after a hail event and disappear.
What manufacturer credentials does the company hold?
It is a GAF Master Elite contractor, verified on GAF's contractor directory, which allows enhanced GAF warranties. Its website also states CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster status.
What should I verify before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance, a written scope and price, local references, and a physical local address. Never pay in full up front after a storm.
Where can I read reviews of the Abilene office?
The Abilene location has its own Google Business Profile, a Yelp page, a Houzz profile, a GuildQuality profile, and an A+ accredited BBB profile.
