About

Chad Dodson Roofing Systems is a family owned roofing contractor based at 327 Meadow Ln in Abilene, serving Taylor County and the wider Big Country region. The company states it was founded in 1998 and has been working in the Abilene market for more than 25 years, handling both residential and commercial roofs. The residential side covers shingle, shake and metal roofing, while the commercial side covers TPO, modified bitumen and metal systems. The company also advertises free roof inspections, emergency leak response, roof coatings and attic ventilation work, and it positions storm and hail damage restoration plus insurance claim assistance as a core part of what it does. That fits the West Texas market, where hail is the most common cause of sudden roof damage. Its RCAT standing is recorded here as Licensed Roofing Contractor. No GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed contractor certification was found for this company on any manufacturer directory.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0418 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Chad was very professional and courteous and did a great job on replacing our roof. He provided great results and worked with my insurance adjuster and all details were covered and made easy. They worked quickly and did a good job on cleanup. I will definitely use him again if needed and I recommend using him.

I don’t normally write reviews however, I could not pass up the opportunity to express how well the Chad Dodson Roofing of Abilene crew did on our roof. The install of the roof was excellent. I looked it over really well and saw no mistakes having done roofing in my younger days. Cleanup was done really good. Can’t even tell they were here which was a concern of mine. Protected bushes and AC unit very good. Nothing damaged. Would highly recommend the Chad Dodson roofing company for anybody that is need of a roof replacement. Thank you to the crew!!

Frequently asked

Does Chad Dodson Roofing Systems hold a Texas state roofing licence?
No Texas roofer does, because the state does not issue one. There is no state roofing board and no state licence number to look up. What exists instead is voluntary credentialing through the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, plus whatever registration your own city or county requires. This company is recorded here with RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor standing, which is an industry credential, not a government licence.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
They are two separate things and they are not interchangeable. Any roofing business can pay dues and become an RCAT Member. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and continuing education requirements. Chad Dodson Roofing Systems is listed with the Licensed Roofing Contractor status, which is the higher of the two.
Which areas does the company cover?
Its own site lists Abilene, San Angelo, Buffalo Gap, Tuscola, Clyde, Anson, Lawn, Albany, Merkel and Tye, along with surrounding Big Country communities. Abilene sits in Taylor County. If your town is not on that list, ask directly, since roofers often stretch their radius for larger jobs.
What roofing materials does it install?
For homes it lists asphalt shingle, shake and metal. For commercial buildings it lists TPO, modified bitumen and metal. It also offers roof coatings, which are used to extend the life of an existing low slope roof rather than tear it off.
Should I ask about impact resistant shingles in Abilene?
Yes. Taylor County sits in the part of Texas where hail does the most roof damage, and Class 4 impact resistant shingles are rated under UL 2218 to withstand a steel ball impact without cracking. Many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a Class 4 roof, though the discount and the eligibility rules vary by carrier. Ask the roofer for the product name and the UL 2218 Class 4 rating in writing, then ask your insurer what the discount would actually be.
Does the company help with hail and storm insurance claims?
Yes, roof insurance claim assistance and storm damage restoration are both advertised on its site, and it offers free inspections to document damage. Be aware that in Texas a roofing contractor cannot act as your public adjuster on the same job. A contractor can document damage, meet the adjuster and explain the scope of repair, but negotiating the claim on your behalf for a fee is a separate licensed role.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Abilene?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting and inspection are handled city by city and county by county. Roof replacement usually requires a permit inside Abilene city limits. Confirm with the City of Abilene building services department, and make sure your contract states clearly who pulls the permit and who pays for it.
Is the company BBB accredited?
Yes. Chad Dodson Roofing Abilene is a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating and has been accredited since January 2017. Accreditation and the letter rating are two different measures, so it is worth reading the actual complaint history on the BBB profile rather than relying on the grade alone.
Does it hold any manufacturer certifications such as GAF or Owens Corning?
None were found. We checked the company site and the manufacturer contractor directories and did not find a GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed contractor listing for this business. That is not a mark against the work quality, but it does mean the extended manufacturer labour warranties that require a certified installer may not be available. Ask the company directly what workmanship warranty it offers and get it in writing.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for a current certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurance agent, covering both general liability and workers compensation, and check the dates. Ask whether crews are employees or subcontractors. Get the full scope in writing, including decking replacement pricing, underlayment, ventilation and flashing, not just the shingle. Confirm who pulls the permit. Never pay the full amount up front, and never let a contractor offer to absorb or waive your insurance deductible, which is illegal in Texas.
