About

Craven Roofing & Construction is a Burleson based roofing contractor in Johnson County, working mainly across the Fort Worth side of the metroplex. BBB and RCAT records agree that the business started on 5 November 2010. The company positions itself around repair work rather than sales, using the line that it connects customers with a repairman and not a salesman. This is one of the RCAT Licensed companies rather than a plain dues paying member. The RCAT directory lists owner Chris Craven with the CRRL designation and shows RCAT Commercial & Residential Roofing License number 03-0225. That credential is earned separately from RCAT membership and is worth confirming on the RCAT directory yourself before you sign anything. Residential work published on the company's site covers roof repairs, re-roofing, roof inspections, a product it calls Roof Shield and solar powered attic fans. Commercial work is built around inspections, targeted repairs and putting a maintenance program in place. Project photos in its gallery show custom copper turret work, corrugated metal, a steel shingle installation and a custom roll out roof. Craven holds an A+ BBB rating and is not a BBB accredited business, and it has a profile in the Owens Corning contractor directory.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0225 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Kyle was professional and personable. But more impressively he identified all the problems for me, and indicated these were easy DIY fixes that would only cost me a 10$ tube of sealant and a few minutes of time, versus paying a 250$ service fee for someone else to do it. I’ve never had a service professional come to give me a quote that kept me from having to spend any money at all. The honesty and service were truly refreshing. They definitely have my loyalty for any future repairs I will need done!

The level of professionalism that Kyle exhibited was amazing! He was very courteous and very considerate of my needs, and made sure that I was well taken care of. He made the payment process real easy and I would most likely call upon his services again! Kyle is an asset to the company and should be considered for a raise thank you. This level of engagement and consideration toward his customers would definitely be appreciated at any level. Walter Lowe

Kyle Putman and his coworker were extremely thorough! They let me know before they before they started working. Plus, let me know when they were done. We recently had our roof damaged by a very large limb from one of our Oak trees. Chris did a fantastic job navigating us through the process. Kyle did an incredible job on the material selection, roof repairs, and most importantly customer satisfaction. He absolutely wanted to make certain we were completely satisfied with his work before departing. Thank you for a job well done!

Frequently asked

Is Craven Roofing state licensed in Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no roofer in Texas can be state licensed. What Craven does hold is the RCAT Commercial & Residential Roofing License number 03-0225, which is an industry credential issued by the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, not a government licence. Owner Chris Craven is shown on the RCAT directory with the CRRL designation.
What is the difference between RCAT Member and RCAT Licensed?
RCAT Member simply means the company pays association dues. The RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through experience requirements and examination. Craven appears on the RCAT directory with a licence number, which puts it in the smaller licensed group.
How long has the company been in business?
Both the BBB profile and the RCAT record give a start date of 5 November 2010. Owner Chris Craven describes over 20 years of personal experience in commercial and residential roofing and construction, which predates the company itself.
Is Craven Roofing BBB accredited?
No. The BBB profile for Craven Roofing & Construction in Burleson shows an A+ rating but states it is not a BBB accredited business. Accreditation is a paid programme, so its absence is not a mark against a contractor, but the two things should not be confused.
Should I get Class 4 impact resistant shingles in Johnson County?
Johnson County sits inside the North Texas hail belt, where severe hail is a normal annual risk rather than a rare event. Class 4 impact resistant shingles are rated to the UL 2218 steel ball test and many Texas insurers give a premium discount for them. Ask for the specific product name and its impact rating in writing, and check with your insurer what discount applies before you choose.
Who pulls the roofing permit?
There is no statewide building code enforcement in Texas, so it varies. Work inside Burleson goes through the City of Burleson, work in Fort Worth through the City of Fort Worth, and unincorporated Johnson County is different again. Agree in writing who applies for the permit and ask for the permit number once it is issued.
Does Craven handle insurance claims after a hail storm?
The company's published focus is inspection, repair and replacement work, and hail damage inspection is a normal part of that. Texas law bars a roofing contractor from acting as your public insurance adjuster on the same claim, so a contractor can document damage and meet your adjuster but cannot negotiate the claim on your behalf. Be cautious of anyone offering to handle the whole claim for you.
What roofing materials does Craven work with?
The company's own project gallery shows steel shingle installations, corrugated metal, custom copper turret work and a custom roll out roof, and the BBB categorises it under metal roofing contractors. Its site does not publish a full material list, so confirm directly whether the system you want is in scope.
How do I verify a Texas roofer's insurance?
Ask for a certificate of insurance covering general liability and workers compensation, and ask that it be sent to you directly by the insurance agency rather than forwarded by the contractor. Check the policy dates cover your project window and that your property is named. Texas does not require roofers to carry workers compensation, so confirm rather than assume.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract?
Get the scope, the exact roof system and shingle line, the impact rating, the workmanship warranty length, the manufacturer warranty and the payment schedule all in writing. Confirm the RCAT status yourself on the RCAT directory. Avoid large deposits, and if the work follows a storm, understand that Texas gives you the right to cancel a storm related roofing contract within a set window once your insurer denies the claim.
