About

Texas Choice Roofing is an Austin based roofing and construction company working across Travis County and the wider Central Texas corridor. The company describes itself as a full service contractor handling residential and commercial roof replacement and repair, and its own pages list new construction roofing, storm damage roof repair, metal, tile and flat roofing alongside standard shingle work. The BBB profile names Cody Kleeves as principal and records the business as incorporated in October 2021, with BBB accreditation and an A+ rating dating from April 2022. The company publishes a business address at 1621 E 6th St, Suite 1113, Austin, TX 78702 and a phone number of (512) 774-9149, with posted hours of Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. Its BBB record carries a different Austin address (310 Comal St, Ste 201), so the two documents disagree on the exact suite while agreeing on the city and county. Both sit inside Austin, Travis County. On materials, the company says it installs shingles from GAF, Owens Corning and CertainTeed, plus high gauge Galvalume coated panels for standing seam metal roofs, and it lists tile, slate, clay and TPO among the systems it works with. A contractor profile for Texas Choice Roofing LLC exists in Owens Corning's own contractor directory, which confirms the company is in that manufacturer's network. The specific tier shown on that Owens Corning profile did not render for us, so we do not state a level. Austin sits in Central Texas hail country, so impact resistant Class 4 shingles and insurance claim work are the usual reasons homeowners here call a roofer.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #03-0603 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I would highly recommend Texas Choice Roofing for your roof replacement in the Round Rock area. I worked with Jon Nielsen and he was very helpful answering all my questions, was prompt in getting back to me, and guided me through the process of getting my roof done as a first time homeowner. I was impressed with their speed and efficiency in getting it completed. They started at 6:30 AM and were done by 3:00/4:00 PM. I had observed that various neighbors here in Paloma Lake who had their roofs replaced, due to hail damage, had crews that typically took up to 2 days to complete roofs that were comparable in size to mine. They did an amazing job on the cleanup with no remaining debris, compared to what was left behind when my adjacent neighbor had their roof done. I was very impressed with the job that was done and my new roof looks amazing! They were very kind and treated me like family.

We just had our roof replaced a couple of weeks ago and would highly recommend these guys. Cody was great to work with, and he was really patient with all our questions and requests. He was very responsive during our bid process, and his estimate came out very fair compared to others we had gotten. One of the things we really liked about them was that they insisted on removing all layers of felt paper down to the roof decking and placing new layers of felt up to code standards. As you can see from my picture, they uncovered FOUR LAYERS of old felt and a few spots of rot in the wood where water had gotten underneath over however many years the original felt had been on there. We were so glad we decided to go this route. Apparently, not all roofers recommend removing all of the felt. Our roof is about 1,400 sqft., so the crew was able to finish it within a day, starting at around 6:30am and finishing completely by around 3:30pm. The on-site project manager, Justin, was excellent and kept us updated on the progress. They were all so fast and efficient, and they honestly left our property in better condition than when they started. They used a magnet to sweep our yard for any loose nails, and they blew off all debris from our driveway and back patio. I didn't get a good picture of the finished roof, but you can see that they added a nice, new ridge vent for better ventilation in our attic which will hopefully help even more with our home energy efficiency.

I had my roof replaced recently by Texas Choice Roofing and had a very positive experience overall. This was a fairly large and complex roof (over 4,000 sq ft with multiple slopes and valleys), and the crew handled it efficiently and professionally. They arrived early with a full team and completed the installation in a single day. The workmanship looks solid — shingle lines are straight, and all key areas like valleys and flashing appear well done. Their pricing was competitive compared to other quotes I received, which made the decision easier. They also did a thorough job removing debris and nails, and the property was left in very good condition. Communication with Drew and Justin was smooth throughout the process, and they were responsive when I asked for documentation related to potential attic insulation issues after a recent leak. Overall, I would recommend them to homeowners looking for a reliable roofing contractor.

Contacted Texas choice roofing after a hailstorm this past spring after speaking to several other roofers in the Georgetown area. Was quoted a very fair price (much lower than other options). It only took them a day and the workers left my yard looking better than before. Thanks for a well done job Texas Choice Roofing. I will be recommending all my friends your company.

GREAT roof repair experience. Our ceiling started to leak after heavy rain. David with Texas Choice came out quickly the next morning to diagnose. We really appreciated the quick next day response. He fixed our roof/ceiling leak the same day at a very affordable price. We live in the Sunfield neighborhood of Buda so I wasn’t too sure if they serviced our area, but am so happy they do! Will definitely recommend to anyone in Buda or greater Hays area. They are definitely our go to for roof repairs now. If you don’t like salesy corporate companies, go with these guys.

Frequently asked

Is Texas Choice Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
No roofer is, because Texas has no state roofing licence. There is no state agency that issues or revokes a roofing licence here, so any contractor telling you they are state licensed for roofing is overstating it. What you can check instead is insurance, RCAT standing, city registration where the city requires it, manufacturer credentials, and the BBB file. Our record lists this company as an RCAT Member.
What is the difference between RCAT Member and RCAT Licensed?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas has two separate things. Membership means the company joined the association and pays dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through RCAT's own testing and requirements. They are not equivalent and one does not imply the other. Our record shows this company as a Member.
How do I verify a roofer's insurance in Texas?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent to you directly by the insurance agent, not a PDF forwarded by the salesperson. You want general liability and, if the company has employees on your roof, workers compensation. Texas does not require most private employers to carry workers compensation, so ask specifically and get the answer in writing before work starts.
Are impact resistant Class 4 shingles worth it in Austin?
Central Texas takes regular hail, and Class 4 shingles are rated under UL 2218 to survive a steel ball impact test without cracking the mat. Many Texas carriers offer a premium discount for a documented Class 4 roof. Ask your own carrier what discount applies and what proof they need, because the credit varies by insurer and it is not automatic.
Who pulls the roofing permit in Austin?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement, so permitting is set city by city and county by county. In the Austin area the contractor normally pulls any required permit and schedules inspection with the local authority. Confirm in writing who is responsible before the tear off, and keep the final inspection record with your closing documents.
Can a roofer pay my insurance deductible?
No. Texas law prohibits a roofing contractor from paying, waiving, rebating or absorbing an insurance deductible, and an offer to do so is a warning sign rather than a favour. Expect to pay your deductible. Any contractor that builds a deductible waiver into the pitch is putting both of you at risk.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract?
Ask for the full scope in writing, the shingle line and colour, the underlayment and ventilation plan, the workmanship warranty length and who honours it, the payment schedule, the lien waiver process, and whether any of the work is subcontracted. If you signed in response to a declared disaster or in reliance on an insurance payout that is later denied, Texas law may give you a short right to cancel, so read the cancellation clause.
What is the difference between a manufacturer warranty and a workmanship warranty?
The manufacturer warranty covers the shingle itself and comes from GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed or whoever made it. The workmanship warranty covers the installation and comes from the roofing company, so it is only as good as the company still being in business. Ask for both in writing and check whether the manufacturer warranty needs registration after install.
How long does a roof last in Central Texas?
Heat, UV and hail shorten roof life here compared with milder climates. A three tab asphalt roof often needs replacing well before its nominal rating, architectural shingles usually do better, and metal lasts longest. In practice hail, not age, is what ends most Austin area roofs, so an annual or post storm inspection matters more than the number printed on the wrapper.
Do I need a roof inspection after a hail storm even if I see no damage?
Usually yes. Hail bruising often is not visible from the ground, and insurers commonly apply a time limit for reporting storm damage. Get a documented inspection with photographs after a significant hail event, keep the report dated, and file promptly if damage is found. Do not let anyone climb your roof without confirming their insurance first.
