Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

I first became a client for KAS almost 8 years ago, and this company has continued to earn my business ever since. It says a lot that they’re still going strong—and even more that the same employee answered the phone and personally came out to take care of a small request. That level of consistency and dedication is rare these days. Even though the issue was outside of the warranty period, they still took the time to help without hesitation and without charging anything. Outstanding customer service, reliability, and professionalism. I highly recommend KAS and Erik!

Erik was great to work with from beginning to end. He’s not a hard sell and kept us informed throughout the process. We appreciate that KAS uses high quality products, bore the load of working with our estimator, and had a considerate team of folks executing the work. The cleanup was excellent and we recommend Erik and his team for anyone looking for a new roof!

Has Contracting installed a new roof on one of my rental properties. The color selection they had available was great and I love the color I picked for the house. They were prompt and efficient and I would recommend using them for your roofing needs.

Kas Contracting recently replaced the roof on my rental house, and Erik was the point of contact. He did an excellent job installing the new roof, fixing the front glass door, and handling other related work. My roof shingles were upgraded at no extra charge, and Erik even covered some parts out of his own pocket to ensure the job was completed on time. Kas Contracting also handled all the insurance paperwork. Overall, it was a five-star experience, and I’ll definitely use them again in the future.

Erik Velez, our representative from KAS, was there for us every step of the process of replacing our hail damaged roof. He worked with our insurance company to get us the best quality roof available. He kept us informed of all going on before, during, and after the work was done. We appreciated his attention to details. We are pleased with our roof and our experience with Erik and KAS.

Frequently asked

Is Kas Contracting licensed by the State of Texas as a roofer?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no Texas roofing company holds one. The meaningful checks are current general liability and workers' compensation insurance, voluntary industry credentials such as RCAT, and city registration where required. Note that the adjuster licences this company references are insurance adjuster credentials issued by the Texas Department of Insurance, which is a different thing from a contractor licence.
What does the RCAT status on this listing mean?
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas offers plain membership, which means the company pays dues and belongs to the association, and a separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL). This company is carried as a Member. That is real association standing, but it is not the same as the earned Licensed credential and should not be read as one.
Why does hail matter for a roof in the Austin area?
Travis County and the surrounding Central Texas counties sit in the region often called Hail Alley, where spring storms produce hail large enough to bruise or fracture asphalt shingles. Hail damage drives the majority of roofing insurance claims here, which is why impact resistant shingle options and prompt post storm inspections come up so often in this market.
What is the difference between Class 3 and Class 4 impact resistant shingles?
Both come from the UL 2218 steel ball impact test, and Class 4 is the highest rating, meaning the shingle withstands a larger ball dropped from the test height without cracking the mat. Class 3 sits one step below. Many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for a verified Class 4 roof, so ask your carrier what each class is worth before choosing.
What does Owens Corning Preferred Contractor mean?
It is a tier in Owens Corning's Roofing Contractor Network. Contractors must meet the manufacturer's requirements on insurance, standing and workmanship to be listed, and the network tier can affect which extended warranties are available on your roof. The way to check it is to look the company up on Owens Corning's own contractor directory rather than trusting a logo on a website.
What is a roof certification and when do I need one?
A roof certification is a written inspection report stating the roof's condition and expected remaining service life, usually requested during a property sale or by an insurer before binding or renewing coverage. It is an opinion based on inspection, not a warranty. Ask what the inspection covered, whether the attic and decking were viewed, and how long the certification is considered valid.
Can a contractor pay or waive my insurance deductible in Texas?
No. Texas law makes it an offence for a contractor to pay, waive, rebate or absorb an insurance deductible on a property insurance claim. You are required to pay your deductible. An offer to cover it, or advertising for a free roof, is a warning sign rather than a discount and can put your claim at risk as well.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Austin?
Texas does not administer a single statewide building code, so permitting and inspection rules are set city by city and county by county. Austin and each surrounding Central Texas city publish their own requirements. Confirm with the local building department before work begins, and make sure the contract states plainly who pulls the permit and who pays the fee.
Should a public adjuster and my roofer be the same company?
It is worth understanding the distinction. A public adjuster represents the policyholder in negotiating the claim and is licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance. A roofing contractor performs the work. Texas restricts a person from acting as both public adjuster and contractor on the same claim, so ask any company that references adjuster credentials which role it is actually filling on your job and get the answer in writing.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Central Texas?
Ask for the exact legal entity name on the contract, a certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurer, the manufacturer certification looked up on the manufacturer's own directory, a written scope covering decking, underlayment, flashing and ventilation, who pulls the permit, the workmanship warranty term, and what happens to your deposit if the insurance scope changes or the job is cancelled.
