About

Smart Roof Texas, LLC trades publicly as Smart Roof & Home Performance and runs the website smartroofhp.com, so the legal name and the customer facing brand are different. The Better Business Bureau file confirms the connection, listing Smart Roof Texas, LLC with "Smart Roof & Home Performance" as an alternate business name at 3400 N Central Expy Ste 110-338, Richardson, TX 75080, phone (214) 600-7337, website smartroofhp.com. That address is the 3400 at CityLine office building, which sits in Collin County, so the Collin county assignment is correct even though other parts of Richardson fall in Dallas County. BBB records show the business incorporated on 10/11/2022 with Travis Jones as managing partner, and it has been BBB Accredited since 8/7/2023 with an A+ rating. The company's About page says Jones launched it after five years in residential roofing and solar. GAF's own contractor directory lists the company at the GAF Certified level, GAF's entry factory certification, at its Richardson address. The business runs three connected lines rather than roofing alone. Roofing covers replacement, new home roofing, composition shingle, metal, and slate and tile, with a heavy emphasis on IBHS FORTIFIED Roof systems that use sealed decks, ring shank nails and impact resistant coverings. Solar covers design and installation. Home performance covers attic insulation, blower door assisted air sealing and energy assessments. The company describes itself as serving Dallas and Fort Worth. BBB lists hours of Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

City/county registration Not checked for RichardsonTexas has no state roofing licence, and city rules differ: some require contractor registration, some run a voluntary registry, some neither. Ask this company and your local permit office.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0607 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Travis was extremely honest, knowledgeable, and passionate about his work. I appreciated how clearly he explained my home’s overall performance and helped me understand how everything functions together. He was very thorough in his inspection and transparent about what he could and couldn’t do for my specific needs. Overall, a great experience and someone I would definitely recommend for home-performance evaluations. I found his team to be extremely easy to work with.

Smart Roof & Home Performance is the single best group I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Travis, Keith, and the rest of the team genuinely care about their customers. They deeply believe in doing the best work they can, and they ALWAYS go above and beyond. They are truly a joy to work with, they're wonderful people, and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Travis and his team are AWESOME! You can see the difference when someone is truly passionate about what they do because it’s reflected in the quality of their work. Travis walked us through every step of the way by explaining the entire process of air sealing and insulating an attic for optimal home performance. As someone who has gone through mold toxicity, it was extremely important to me that the air in my new home would be as healthy as possible. I highly recommend this company and plan to use SmartRoof in the future when it's time for a new roof!

I was looking for ways to make our 1961 home more energy efficient, and I'm so happy I found Travis and his team! Travis came over to inspect the home and spent over an hour helping me understand what upgrades would be most beneficial and the science behind it. His approach was genuine, customer-centered and never pushy or salesy. Within the week, the work was done and we immediately felt a difference! (Our air conditioner is now running half as much as it was). Travis, Landon, and team were kind, respectful, and attentive - no detail overlooked. Can't thank them enough! Highly recommend!

We recently had the pleasure of working with Travis and Michael of Smart Roof & Home Performance, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience! From start to finish, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about delivering quality work. They took the time to thoroughly assess our home’s needs and provided clear explanations of the issues and solutions. Their attention to detail and commitment to excellence were evident in every aspect of the project, from the initial inspection to the final cleanup. Not only did they do an outstanding job with our roofing, but their focus on home performance was also impressive. We explained our concerns with proper attic ventilation, keeping the home dry and establishing systems to prevent mold growth. They went above and beyond to ensure our home was safe, energy-efficient, and maintained to last. The entire process was smooth and stress-free, thanks to their reliable communication and dedication to customer satisfaction. It’s rare to find a company that truly cares about their clients, and Smart Roof & Home Performance exceeded all our expectations. You can tell these guys are leaders in their industry, constantly studying the industry, learning from building science principles and applying their knowledge to their craft. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy, skilled, and caring team for roofing or home performance needs. You won’t be disappointed!

Frequently asked

Is Smart Roof & Home Performance licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing contractor licence, so no Texas roofer can be state licensed. The trust checks that do matter are proof of general liability and workers compensation insurance, standing in the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas directory, and any registration your city requires. This company holds the RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor credential, which is an industry credential and not a government licence.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
An RCAT Member is a company that pays association dues. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and continuing education by an individual at the company. They are not the same thing, and plenty of members never earn the credential. This company is listed with the Licensed credential, which is the stronger of the two.
Why does the website say Smart Roof & Home Performance when the registration says Smart Roof Texas, LLC?
Smart Roof Texas, LLC is the registered entity and Smart Roof & Home Performance is the public brand it operates under. The BBB profile lists the brand as an alternate name for the LLC, and the LLC name is what appears on the association record. Expect the contract and the certificate of insurance to carry the LLC name.
Is the Richardson office in Dallas County or Collin County?
The company's address at 3400 N Central Expressway is in the CityLine area of Richardson, which falls in Collin County. Richardson straddles the Dallas and Collin county line, so a Richardson address by itself does not tell you the county. Confirm the county for your own property before assuming which appraisal district and permitting office applies.
What does the GAF Certified level actually mean?
GAF Certified is GAF's entry factory certification. It confirms the contractor carries insurance, has a track record GAF has reviewed, and can offer the GAF System Plus limited warranty on qualifying systems. It is a real credential but a step below GAF Master Elite. GAF's own contractor directory shows this company at the Certified level.
What is a FORTIFIED roof and why does it come up in North Texas?
FORTIFIED is a construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety that goes beyond code minimum with a sealed roof deck, ring shank nails, upgraded edge metal and impact resistant coverings. The company says it is one of the first Texas contractors certified to install it. If you want a FORTIFIED designation on your home, ask for the current certification and the third party evaluator paperwork for your address, not just a verbal claim.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in Collin County?
Collin County sits in the North Texas hail belt, where large hail events are routine rather than rare. Class 4 impact resistant shingles are rated under UL 2218 and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them. Get the discount quoted by your carrier in writing before you decide, because the payback depends entirely on your policy.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Richardson?
Texas has no statewide building code enforcement for residential re-roofing, so permitting and inspection are set city by city. Confirm the requirement with the City of Richardson building department, and have the contractor pull the permit in its own name rather than asking you to pull an owner permit, which shifts liability to you.
Can a roofer pay or absorb my insurance deductible?
No. Texas Insurance Code Chapter 707 makes it illegal for a contractor to pay, waive, rebate or absorb any part of your insurance deductible, and it is illegal for you to knowingly accept that offer. Any roofer who offers to eat the deductible is telling you something about how they run the rest of the job.
Does this company only do roofing?
No. It runs three lines: roofing, solar design and installation, and home performance work such as attic insulation, blower door assisted air sealing and energy assessments. If you only want a roof, say so up front and ask for the roofing scope and price separated from any energy or solar recommendations.
