About
Roof Deck Services, Inc. is a Dallas commercial and residential roofing contractor founded in 1996 by Greg Nunley, its president. Before starting the company he spent 21 years in the roof deck, roofing and sheet metal trade at Deck Applicators of Irving, Texas, a firm that installed Loadmaster metal roof decks along with roofing and sheet metal flashings. The company uses a P.O. Box mailing address in Dallas and takes blueprint deliveries at 4228 Hanover St.
The name is literal. A roof deck is the structural surface underneath the covering, and this firm genuinely works at that level: it replaces steel, gypsum and Tectum decking, and it is the Loadmaster representative for much of Texas, installing the Loadmaster engineered roof deck system that pairs high tensile steel with Duraflex mineral board. That structural work sits alongside a full roofing offering rather than replacing it. The company also does complete tear off and replacement, leak repair on both commercial and residential buildings, modified bitumen and single ply membrane systems, composition shingle and standing seam metal, in house sheet metal fabrication of gutters, downspouts, coping caps and flashings, skylight installation and repair, waterproofing and sealants, new roof penetrations for HVAC units, vents and pipes, and roof coatings and restoration.
A related consulting operation, Technical Roof Services, handles roof consulting and forensic work. The company states it serves the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, North Texas, East Texas and Oklahoma, with the consulting side reaching considerably further. Homeowners and building owners should note the mix here: this is a contractor whose core competence is commercial and structural, so residential buyers are dealing with a firm that spends much of its time on flat and low slope commercial work.

Insurance & credential verification
Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

City/county registration
Registered — Dallas Check the register ↗Contractor Certificate of Registration (Dallas City Code Ch. 52), type Roofing (RO). This company appears on the city's own list of registered contractors. The city publishes no certificate number or expiry date for this programme, so ask to see the registration itself before work starts.
RegionDallas (Up)
Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Frequently asked
What is a roof deck, and why does it matter?
The roof deck is the structural surface that the roofing system is fastened to, usually steel, concrete, plywood, gypsum or Tectum. If the deck is rusted, saturated or spalling, a new membrane or new shingles laid over it will fail early. Any contractor quoting a replacement should tell you what condition your deck is in and what they will do about the bad sections.
Does Roof Deck Services do full roofing or only deck work?
Both. The company lists deck repair and replacement in steel, gypsum and Tectum, and separately lists complete roof replacement, leak repair, modified bitumen and single ply systems, shingle and standing seam metal, sheet metal fabrication, skylights, waterproofing, coatings and restoration. The deck capability is the specialism, not the limit of the work.
Is a roof coating the same as a new roof?
No. A coating is a fluid applied layer that restores and extends a roof that is still structurally sound. It will not fix wet insulation, a failing deck or widespread membrane failure. Ask any contractor recommending a coating to show you moisture survey or core cut evidence that the assembly underneath is dry before you agree to it.
Does Texas issue a state roofing licence?
No. Texas has no state roofing licence, so nobody in the state can truthfully claim to be state licensed for roofing. The things that actually verify a Texas roofer are current general liability and workers compensation insurance, registration with the city where required, and voluntary credentials such as RCAT membership or the separate RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor designation.
What is RCAT, and what does membership prove?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, a voluntary trade body. Plain RCAT membership means a company pays dues and belongs. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and is a stronger signal. The two are not interchangeable, and a company that is a member is not automatically a Licensed Roofing Contractor. Roof Deck Services did not come up in an RCAT directory search.
Does the City of Dallas require roofing contractors to register?
Yes. Dallas requires roofing contractors to register with the city under Chapter 52 of the city code. The city publishes the registered contractor list but does not publish a licence number or an expiry date alongside it, so registration is a yes or no fact rather than a number you can look up and cross check.
How should Dallas building owners handle hail damage?
North Texas sits in the part of the state that takes the most hail, and it is the dominant driver of roof claims here. Photograph the damage, report it to your insurer promptly, and get an independent inspection before you sign anything. Be wary of any contractor who offers to absorb or waive your deductible, which is not legitimate in Texas.
Are impact resistant shingles worth it in Dallas?
For steep slope residential roofs in North Texas, Class 4 impact resistant shingles are the standard hail upgrade and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them. Ask your carrier what discount applies before you choose, because the size of that credit varies a lot between insurers.
What should a commercial roof quote actually contain?
It should name the membrane system and manufacturer, state the insulation type and R value, say explicitly what happens if deteriorated deck is found once the old roof is off, and separate the manufacturer material warranty from the contractor workmanship warranty with their respective terms. A quote that only gives a square footage price hides exactly the decisions that determine what you get.
What should I ask a Texas roofer before signing?
Ask for certificates of insurance for general liability and workers compensation sent directly by the insurer, confirm the company is registered with your city where that is required, ask who will actually be on the roof and whether they are employees or subcontracted crews, and get the workmanship warranty in writing with its length and what voids it. Confirm the office address and phone independently rather than taking a flyer at face value.
