About

Roof Cake is a McKinney based roofing company that sells roof replacement through an online estimator instead of a commissioned sales visit. Its BBB profile lists the business at 4500 Eldorado Parkway, Suite 2500, McKinney, and the RCAT directory carries a McKinney mailing address on Virginia Parkway. The published phone number is (888) 312-2253, which the company brands as 888-312-CAKE. The process described on the company's own site runs in four steps: an online estimator that returns a price in a couple of minutes, a drone and ground level inspection that captures hundreds of photos of the roof plus gutters, fence and window screens, a conversation with a non commissioned advisor about materials and colours, then production. The company states no money is due until the day of installation, that customers save an average of 20 to 30 percent because there are no commissioned sales representatives, and that it has replaced over 1,000 roofs. One detail worth knowing before you call: on its own roof inspection page Roof Cake describes itself as a nationwide company with a network of roofing contractors local to you, so the installing crew on a given job may be a partner contractor rather than an in house team. The company is a BBB Accredited Business, accredited since 3 September 2024 with an A rating. It says on its site that it is certified with major shingle manufacturers, but no listing was found in a manufacturer's own contractor directory, so that claim is recorded here as stated by the company.

Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this licence yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search — search #01-0414 or the company name.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

Decided to have them replace my roof, gutters, and stain fence. I went with them because they didn’t ask for my insurance estimate, didn’t say that insurance misses things they can find to get more money. I told them I wanted class 4 shingles and they worked up an estimate that was very reasonable. On the day of the install they had 19 people working on the roof. All the roofing was completed in one day. Gutters and fence shortly afterwards. This is a well oiled machine. If you want it done right with no complications I’d highly recommend using them. Everyone from the laborers to office staff were excellent to work with.

Thank you to Striker Exteriors for the patience and partnership on this catastrophic home claim. The May 28 storm hit us hard and destroyed almost half our house and totaled our car. One call to Nathan and William and not only were we freed from the massive jungle of trees in our yard, but they went to work immediately on mitigating the damage. They worked diligently with the insurance company and the mortgage company to make sure everything was made not only right, but better. Thank you for answering all the late night and early morning phone calls. The house is finally rebuilt and refurbished. During the middle of all this we lost my mother who lived with us. The goal was to have it finished before she passed away but sometimes things don’t work out the way we want. Her room is finished and she would have been thrilled with the results. Striker Exteriors all are a class act all around.

Beautiful experience with William Amm, honest, straightforward, and helpful with design questions. He handled my roof replacement and construction of a patio cover. Kept me updated through both processes, and ensured the work was top notch. Will absolutely recommend and use again. Pics of patio cover are during construction. End result is beautiful.

My independent insurance agent recommend I have Roof Cake inspect my roof for recent hail damage. I thought, Roof Cake, what an off the wall name for a roofing contractor. 1 man showed up and did the whole inspection with a drone!! The drone inspected every inch of the roof. It had software that highlighted hail dings on the shingles. They told me if they determine a claim is valid, the insurance company will likely agree as their inspection is so thorough. They confirmed the damage and provided a quote. They said their quotes are cheaper that most of their completion so their estimate should agree or be better than the insurance payout less my deductible. The insurance company agreed and Roof Cake provided a detailed exact quote using satellite imaging down to a fraction of an inch. Amazing. This company is really different. Everyone I talked to there was English speaking and their customer service was second to none. They did the work and even repaired a few things not included in the quote. This company is 100% different. They are rethinking roofing using technology and outstanding customer service to expand their business. I couldn't recommend them more. I will only use Roof Cake in the future. 10/10.

Frequently asked

Does Texas license roofing contractors?
No. Texas has no state roofing license, so there is no state licence number to look up for any Texas roofer. In practice you verify a roofer three ways: current general liability and workers compensation insurance, voluntary industry credentials such as RCAT, and whatever registration or permit the city requires. Ask for a certificate of insurance sent to you directly by the insurer or agent, not a photocopy from the salesperson.
What is the difference between an RCAT Member and an RCAT Licensed Roofing Contractor?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, a private trade association. Plain membership means a company pays dues and belongs to the association. The Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned separately through testing and experience requirements and is not automatic with membership. They are not equivalent, and the status shown on this listing is the one recorded for Roof Cake.
How does Roof Cake price a roof without sending a salesperson?
The company's site uses an online estimator that asks general property and roof questions and returns a price in a couple of minutes. A drone and ground level inspection then confirms the condition of the roof before anything is scheduled. Roof Cake states it does not employ commissioned sales representatives and that this is where the quoted 20 to 30 percent saving comes from.
Who actually installs the roof?
On its own roof inspection page Roof Cake describes itself as a nationwide company that has a network of roofing contractors local to you. Before signing, ask which crew will be on your roof, who supervises the job day to day, and which company honours the workmanship warranty if something goes wrong two years later.
Is McKinney in Texas hail country?
Yes. Collin County sits in the North Texas corridor commonly called Hail Alley, and spring hail drives most roof claims in the area. Impact resistant Class 4 shingles are the usual upgrade, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them. Ask your carrier what the discount is worth before you choose a shingle, because it often changes the maths on the upgrade.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in McKinney?
Texas has no statewide building code covering this, so permitting and inspection are set city by city. McKinney requires a permit for roof replacement and the contractor normally pulls it. Get it in writing that the contractor is pulling the permit and that the final inspection is included in the contract price.
How does a hail claim work after Roof Cake inspects my roof?
Roof Cake documents damage with aerial and ground photos and produces a damage report. Its site says that after you receive the report you contact your insurance company to file the claim, and that the company also helps pursue recoverable depreciation once the work is complete. Your carrier, not the roofer, decides whether the claim is approved and what it pays.
Is Roof Cake accredited by the Better Business Bureau?
Yes. Its BBB profile shows an Accredited Business since 3 September 2024 with an A rating, listed at 4500 Eldorado Parkway, Suite 2500, McKinney. The profile records Reid A. Fisher and Johnny Marvin Jr as owner managers.
Is Roof Cake certified by a shingle manufacturer such as GAF or Owens Corning?
The company states on its site that it works with certified contractors and is a preferred vendor with major shingle manufacturers, but we did not find it listed in any manufacturer's own contractor directory, so that is recorded here as stated by the company. If a manufacturer backed system warranty matters to you, ask for the certification and check it yourself on the manufacturer's own contractor locator.
What should I ask before signing a roofing contract in Texas?
Ask for a certificate of insurance sent direct from the insurer, a written scope that names the shingle brand and product line, confirmation of who pulls the permit, the length of the workmanship warranty and which company honours it, the payment schedule, and your cancellation rights. Be cautious with any contractor who wants a large deposit before materials are delivered to your address.
