Insurance & credential verification

Texas does not issue a state roofing license, so we verify companies the way homeowners actually can: confirming insurance coverage, checking RCAT (Roofing Contractors Association of Texas) status, and checking city or county registration where the local jurisdiction requires one. Every credential below links to the actual issuing organization's own public lookup — don't just take our checkmark for it. Always ask for a current certificate of insurance before signing any contract.

Confirm this listing yourself at web.rcat.net/rcat/search.

Confirm this yourself: ask the company for their certificate of insurance (COI). Note that RCAT's Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL) is earned and held by a named individual at a company, not by the business itself, which is why we name that person above where we know it; Texas issues no company roofing license at all. RCAT and NTRCA status can be checked in their own public directories (RCAT, NTRCA) — use the "Licensed"/"Accredited" filter to see more than plain membership. GAF's contractor verification tool and Owens Corning's Texas locator confirm those tiers directly; CertainTeed doesn't offer a comparable self-serve lookup, so ask to see that certificate in person. BBB accreditation and rating are on bbb.org. Houston's own published registered-roofer list is years out of date, so it isn't cited here at all — confirm registration by contacting the city directly. Corpus Christi's STAR program has its own online contractor registry — for any other city or county registration claim, confirm directly with that jurisdiction's permit office.

!!!!!!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re looking for a roofing company you can actually trust, RedTail Roofing is the real deal. I worked directly with Kevin Plumb, and from start to finish the experience was top-tier. Kevin is extremely knowledgeable and took the time to explain every step of the roofing process in plain English—no pressure, no smoke and mirrors. The inspection was thorough, communication was solid the entire time, and the workmanship was clean and professional. RedTail Roofing goes above and beyond when it comes to attention to detail, timelines, and customer care. You can tell they take pride in their work and stand behind what they install. That’s rare these days. If you’re in San Antonio or the surrounding areas and need roof repair, roof replacement, or help with an insurance claim, I highly recommend RedTail Roofing and Kevin Plumb. This is the kind of company you feel confident recommending to friends and family. Five stars all day. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a Ten star company which I highly recommend. Besides dealing with the insurance we also had the issue of removing and reinstalling our solar panels. The team at Red Tail accepted the challenge and never backed down. Kory was our rep and answered all our questions and always got back to us. He also showed up every day to make sure everything was going well. Colton did an outstanding job in scheduling everything. Kevin is a warrior and will not be intimidated by the adjusters. He fights the fight for you. The solar team removed the panels which was followed up by the material delivery. Next day the roofing team showed up and did an outstanding job on our roof. The following day the solar team was back at our house reinstalling the panels. The entire project couldn’t have gone any smoother. Doing business with the Red Tail team is a win win situation.

Kevin came out to look at my roof today. He is the kindest most honest businessman I have ever dealt with. He evaluated everything and showed me exactly what needed and didn’t need to be done. He didn’t try to make things up to get more money. He said he makes his money by doing good, honest work and getting good referrals. I definitely recommend him to anyone needing some roof work or a whole new roof.

We had a great experience with RedTail Roofing for our recent roof replacement in San Antonio. From the initial roof inspection to the final cleanup, their team was professional, organized, and easy to work with. They walked us through our options for asphalt shingles, explained the installation process clearly, and provided a fair, transparent estimate. The crew showed up on time, protected our property during the tear-off, and completed the residential roof replacement efficiently without cutting corners. The quality of the workmanship really stands out, everything from the flashing and ridge caps to the overall shingle alignment looks excellent. If you’re looking for a reliable roofing contractor in San Antonio for a roof replacement or storm-related roofing work, I highly recommend RedTail Roofing. Solid communication, quality installation, and a smooth process from start to finish.

Frequently asked

Is RedTail Roofing licensed by the State of Texas?
Texas does not issue a state roofing licence, so no Texas roofing company holds one. The checks that do mean something are proof of insurance, association standing and any local registration. RedTail Roofing is listed as an RCAT member.
What does RCAT membership actually tell me?
RCAT is the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas. Plain membership means the company pays dues and participates in the association. It is not the same as RCAT's separately earned Licensed Roofing Contractor credential (CRRL, RRL or CRL), which requires examination and continuing education. RedTail is recorded at the member level.
Which parts of San Antonio does RedTail Roofing cover?
The company's site names San Antonio plus Castle Hills, Olmos Park, Terrell Hills, Stone Oak, The Dominion and Alamo Heights. If your address is outside those, confirm coverage when you call rather than assuming.
Are Class 4 impact resistant shingles worth it in San Antonio?
They are worth pricing. Bexar County takes regular hail, and Class 4 shingles carry a UL 2218 impact rating designed to resist hail strikes. Many Texas insurers give a premium discount for a verified Class 4 roof. RedTail lists impact resistant shingles among its options, so ask for the rating documentation and check the discount with your insurer.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in San Antonio?
Texas has no statewide building code, so this is a local matter. The City of San Antonio requires a permit for roof replacement, and separately incorporated cities such as Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, Olmos Park and Castle Hills run their own permitting. Confirm which jurisdiction covers your address and that the contractor is pulling the permit.
Does WPI-8 windstorm certification apply in Bexar County?
No. WPI-8 certificates and TWIA windstorm inspections apply to the 14 first tier Gulf Coast counties only. Bexar County is inland and is not one of them, so a WPI-8 plays no part in a San Antonio reroof.
How do I verify a roofer's insurance?
Ask for a certificate of insurance issued directly by the insurance agent rather than a copy from the contractor. Confirm the general liability limit and whether workers compensation is carried. Texas does not require private employers to carry workers compensation, so establish what is actually in force and that the dates cover your job.
What is the difference between roof repair and a full replacement?
Repair addresses localised damage such as missing shingles, failed flashing or a leaking penetration, and makes sense when the rest of the roof still has useful life. Replacement is usually the better value when damage is widespread, the decking is compromised, or the roof is near the end of its service life. Ask for photographs of the damage so you can see the reasoning.
Can a roofer handle my hail insurance claim?
A roofer can document damage, photograph it, write a detailed estimate and meet the adjuster on site. Negotiating the claim is public adjuster work, and Texas law bars a roofing contractor from acting as a public adjuster on a property it is contracted to repair. Any offer to waive or absorb your deductible should be treated as a warning sign.
What should I confirm before signing a roofing contract?
Confirm the written scope (tear off versus overlay, decking replacement rate and price, underlayment, ventilation, flashing and drip edge), the exact product and manufacturer, the workmanship warranty term and who honours it, the payment schedule, permit responsibility, and the physical address and phone number you can reach after the job is finished.
